Consider the "whole picture" vs. Miami
When the Skins and Dolphins collide its more than just a football game, more than getting reps in there, more than simple playbook adjustments, or even getting a feel for game situations. It's no secret that Miami has what we want and we have components of the same nature (their needs). Pure and Simple this is beyond just a game, but a scouting combine with only two franchises invited. Sure, other team's scouts and persennel will be watching, but the rumors aren't just something to kill time about. Its fresh and its real. We want O-gun in the worst way, they need a running back of some caliber, a reciever who can produce immediately, and someone who might be a "diamond in the rough" to help aile their losses. There is something there, will it go down? Only time will tell, but I'll tell you this... things will be very interesting in this game and the days that follow it. If we head into St. Louis in 10 days without a deal done between Miami and Us, it may be over or at least a stalemate. Then don't be suprised if the Jets rumors really heat up. This is a franchise that lost 4 players to us a year ago and some change, with all bitterness aside, this game is still a business. They know that the odds of keeping Pennington and Abraham both after this season and still being able to compete cap-wise and free agency etc are slim to none. They want insurance and we want a big time Defensive End. Either way if this trade doesn't go down as well as the Miami trade rumor...Abraham may still end up in our hands at season's end. For now we have a battle with Miami, "word's out" that this is more than that, so let's kick back and enjoy the game this Saturday, and let the cards play out the hand. Its gonna get very interesting from here on out. I really think something special is in the making.

I guess to sum it upWe need for our potential "bait players" to play their best game againt Miami. That way we get what we want and Miami can choose what they need

You really need to stop dreaming. Miami is not going to give up O-gun for anything less then a first round pic. The skins have nothing to offer that would be worth O-Gun. Betts is injury prone so the most you guys will probally get is 3round and below. Gardener is not a #1 receiver so 3rd or below for him.
Miami will be needing # picks to get a RB next year and defensive line help.
Also Abrams will probally find his way down to Dallas.

Agreed Gambit, we keep bantering the name "Betts" around as if he is someone that another team would want. Yes, Betts has potential...but he's still nothing better than a backup on almost every team in the league. The league is chock full of "potential" at every position. But "potential" doesn't necessarily translate into appetizing trade bait.

I have to agree with Gambit on this one as well. Miami has given up two number 1 picks for a running back that is now gone. In order to get a star pass rusher from them we got to give them at least a number one pick.
I doubt they could turn down Gardner and a number 1. That way they could have a reciever to get them through this year and then draft a running back and a defensive end next year or trade up if there is a really good running back available.
Thats my two cents.

I would rather have Abraham anyway. If we were to trade for him we would not have to give up Gardner.
What do the jets need?

Skinsfan I think that is a good idea Gardner and maybe like a 3rd for Abraham. His big body would fit nice in there dink and dunk passing game. He could shield defenders on the little 5 and 6 yard slants.
Curtis Martin has a few years left and I am sure his salary is increaseing, his back up (Lamont Jordan)is wanting more playing time. So they will probally be looking for a RB after this year also.

First of all, my apologies to Smithian about the rambeling and not having two paragrahs at least for you
. Next, Gambit, I doubt that Abraham will be headed to Dallas. Philly has a lot more cap than any of the NFC east teams, And I'd be a lot less suprised to see him there if he doesn't end up here in DC. Let's all hope that doesn't happen (Philly).
Ok next paragraph,
, as I say in my smartass tone. Miami has had interest in several of our players but they would defenitely want a draft pick to get Williams replacement. We have been known to make big deals in the past and if the deal is rich for both teams....it could very well happen.
My arguement is this, if Miami wants Gardener, a pick, and someone else or another draft pick....it looks decent. If we can agree to terms with O-gun prior to the trade, it looks even better. Miami needs to get something for O-gun NOW, and they know it. They need to add the right pieces for the present, and get picks for the future. Realistically, this trade won't go down without a #1 pick included. I know we are headed towards cap hell soon, but it may be to irresistable to pass up.
Personally I like Abraham more, and we have 4 of his ex-teamates to boot. They all remain close with him and he may jump at being in a place that he is already familiar with a few of the players. The Jets needs fit our excess on the depth chart more, so New York making a deal with us might make more sense of it actually happening.
Either way, nothing is concrete....everything is just rumors at the moment, and we all know that all teams mentioned above have needs, even the Eagles. They are in need of a mute button for their fans and Scott Norwood to kick for them. Then they would have all the right elements to continue to choke each year.
