Associated Press
Philadelphia Eagles: Running back Bruce Perry will miss his rookie season after dislocating a shoulder in a preseason game against the Patriots.

Coach Andy Reid said Sunday that Perry will most likely have surgery and "he'll be out for the season."

Perry, who was in the running to be a backup behind Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter, caught three passes in Friday's loss to the Patriots.

A seventh-round draft pick, Perry agreed to a four-year contract last month. At Maryland, he ranked fourth on the all-time rushing list despite missing parts of two seasons with injuries. Last season, he ran for 713 yards and nine touchdowns in nine games.

Reid also said safety Quintin Mikell's sprained ankle will not require surgery, and he may return in two or three weeks.

Also, Philadelphia signed free agent defensive tackle DeMarco McNeil, a 6-1, 301 pound rookie from Auburn, and released receiver Yardon Brantley.

It's a shame, but IR is probably the best place for him right now. Reno Mahe has the #3 RB spot locked up. Now Perry can heal up and not worry about finding a new team.

It could be a whole lot worse.
