My opinion of our 2nd preseaon game...

I had to post this as I was very dissapointed yet happy at the same time.

Offense: Im worried here. Ramsey is not a 1st string QB yet. He's still lacking the fundamentals. He's botching snaps, he's still calling 1000 audibles, he's holding on to the ball too long, he's not opening clear passing lanes. Brunell, although didn't look sharp is our clear starter. Most of his incompletions seemed to be due to unfamiliarity with the receivers. It takes a few games to get used to receivers. Portis has failed to impress me again... I know its early but I was expecting a little more, but we're having some issues with the o-line so hopefully it'll work out. The pass protection is good, and the run blocking looks good and I know will only get better.

Cooley is going to be a great H-Back. He's not physical enough for me though, on some of his receptions he should have been putting his head down and nailing those CB's.

Rock C. is going to be a good special teams contributor. So is Thrash.

Iffy... Now we know why your *** got benched. He botched 2 plays, and injured one of our own men.

S. Taylor. The boy is the Ray Lewis of this team. He is every where, on every play you see #36 in the vicinity! The forced fumble was beautiful.

The Defense is general played well, he held S. Davis out of the endzone which felt good. The 70 year old QB kept running the ball on us, I was so happy when that LB knocked his *** backwards. Gregg has these boys tackling, we didn't used to tackle, lol.

SPECIAL TEAMS! Those boys are killing! Man, I can't remeber who that kid was that we returning the kick offs, but he needs to be put in place. I'd almost say let Morton go. I can't believe we're paying that much for a return man. That kid doens't dance around much, he'll make a cut and hit the whole. The coverage is getting better and is improved from last week.

my opinion of the game. :puke:

what a joke. our first unit couldn't even move the ball on the second string d-line.
11 penalties.

Personally I never read too much into any of the pre-season games. Granted fumbles, picks and penalties are areas of concern, untill they strap it up for real, I don't get too worked up about it!

Remember Osaka!

Also remember Gibbs always had very poor pre-season records. In fact, I belive two of our superbowl years we were winless in pre-season.

It seem P-Ram still has Spurrier on the Brain with all the audibles and holding on to the ball...

G(reat) Scott seem suitable as a back up WR

Iffy might want to start checking out the want ads (maybe in Carolina he was in all of their highlights)

Haven't heard much from Chad Morton yet or Ledell Betts for that matter....Simons and McCullough are making sure we don't miss them

Sean Taylor ins't surprising me, but I don't think we've seen his best yet

The young D-lineman have eased some of my worries

Gregg Williams will be blitzing alot and from everywhere

D-Mac looks like he wants that #2 WR spot

Hasselbeck started to read his press

Most important....It's the preseason and we still have 3 games to improve

THANK YOU! Gibbs never shined in preseason. He is all about evaluating players. Technically he has had only 3 days of real Gibbs practice because of the media show boat Snyder put into place. Gibbs can now get his team practicing the plays without people watching. However timing is an issue! QB's should be hitting thier Receivers! RB's should be finding holes. These next two games are about getting timing down and getting the O-line to work together. The last game will be about second string and third string. Gibbs will be playing them to see who he keeps.

... we've been singing the McCants song for a while... wait til you see SkinsChic's new avatar.

Rod who?

Get DM the darn ball. All the guy does is catch TD's. I tell everyone to steal him late in fantasy drafts, he'll post 6-8 TDs this year.

One bright spot on offense.

Just some observations...

Portis isn't even an active part of the offense yet really... so it's just a group of first stringers going through the motions out there. CP must, and will be, such a huge part of the 2004 offense... and the offense without him... is as paltry as it looks. But that's to be expected. Once the running game establishes itself... either QB will look considrably better. The protection last night from the STARTERS was pretty good and against a solid d-line.

Nobody is in synch yet and that's cool for this time of year, it's just good to see some intangibles out there... fire and grit from the guys fighting to make this team. There have been some good performances by the 'fodder'... Gari Scott has impressed... Hasselbeck has shown himself extremely worthy of holding the clipboard this year... Chris Cooley doesn't look out of place out there... to me Kozlowski looks good at HB... Khari Campbell has impressed me and... that's pushing the other LBs like Pierce and Marshall.

Some good depth is shaking out.

They look a lot better than the starters but as noted above, CP will change all of that in due time. Hopefully that's around the middle of the first quarter against the Falcons. I'm happy seeing him do NOTHING until then.

Maybe it's a homer view, but the team just feels more like a team than it has for a while... and to me, that's as psitive a thing as can possibly come out of two nothing pre-season games.

We may not have come very far yet, but it's just nice to be on our way.

It's hard to keep reminding ourselves that it's only preseason...sometimes we want to make a bigger deal out of things than we really should. The Giants starters looked terrible vs. K.C., the Cowboys looked awful, Philly lookes rusty and had a ton of penalties...so it is best just to remind ourselves that we're still a month away from the first Real game.

I'm in complete agreement cj. I am not happy with a lot of the play on the field, but I am also very happy with the fire that is being shown. Nothing matters until the season starts (with the exception of injuries, namely Jansen).

Good points cj17.

The Pukes did look awful, didn't they! :)

The one thing I really look for in the preseason is gradual improvement from week to week. Ws and Ls are secondary, maybe even tertiary.

I didn't see that overall step up from the Denver game. It's like Ramsey is a rookie all over again. In some ways, he probably is. This is his first year learning an NFL offense.

The only problem I had with play-calling was when they got the punt with 4:20 left and a 3-point lead. My Gibbs Tendency Recollection System immediately came back with two words -- Riggo Drill. Well, in this case, Rock Drill.

Why they threw on second down, and then the INT on third down, is way out of character for JJG.
