Here's the blurb on the front page of Redskins.com on the Jansen injury:

"But the Redskins suffered a greater blow when right tackle Jon Jansen suffered a ruptured left Achilles. Officials stressed it is premature to call it a season-ending injury."

I have never heard of anyone coming back from an torn Achilles in less than a full season, especially since o-lineman use there legs so much.

Ruptured Achilles = season over. I'm sure Redskins.com is just waiting for the official diagnosis to come in tomorrow. He's done though. Injuries in the preseason, is there anything worse?

I'm thinking the same thing as well. Just relaying what they team is saying.

Maybe Danny has been able to do that time-travel thing and buy Dr. McCoy's medical tricorder from Star Trek, when everything from the common cold to a ruptured aorta is cured with a single swipe of a metal wand.

Redskins Trail 9-3; Jansen Injured

August 9, 2004

The Redskins fell behind 9-3 at halftime in Monday night's Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. Washington suffered a blow when right tackle Jon Jansen sustained a ruptured left Achilles in the first quarter. His status will be determined after the game, but team officials stressed it was premature to say it was a season-ending injury.

Jansen was helped from the field and was unable to put any weight on the ankle. The six-year veteran, who has not missed a start in five seasons with the Redskins and is known for his durability throughout his career, was later carted off the field. His status will be determined after the game.

The injury aside, the Hall of Fame Game marked the return of head coach Joe Gibbs. He received rousing applause when he brought his team onto the field at Fawcett Stadium.

The Redskins struggled offensively in the first half, compiling 44 total yards. Mark Brunell was 4-of-8 for 18 yards. Patrick Ramsey replaced Brunell early in the first quarter and was 1-of-4 for 0 yards in the first half.

Running back Clinton Portis, playing against his former team for the first time since the March 4 blockbuster trade, had four carries for 11 yards in limited action.

Most of the team's starters had been removed late in the first half.

Rock Cartwright led the Redskins rushers in the first half with 15 yards on seven carries. But he had a fumble at midfield that ended a Redskins drive midway through the second quarter.

The Redskins had the first key play of the game when cornerback Shawn Springs, another off-season free agent acquisition, intercepted Denver quarterback Jake Plummer on the Broncos' 40-yard line. The Redskins were unable to push the ball into the end zone and had to settle on a 39-yard field goal by kicker John Hall.

Denver responded with three Jason Elam field goals, one in the first quarter from 39 yards. Elam connected on field goals from 40 and 47 yards in the second quarter.

Defensively, the Redskins were led by Marcus Washington, who had tackles on the game's first two plays. Linebacker Khary Campbell logged five tackles and a sack. Rookie safety Sean Taylor also had an interception in his first game as a pro.

The following is a list of Redskins players who did not make the trip to Canton so that they could rest from injuries: Ladell Betts, Phillip Daniels, Chris Clemons, Rashad Bauman, Cliff Russell, Brandon Winey, Mike Barrow, Randy Thomas, Taylor Jacobs, Brandon Noble and Walt Harris.
