TinesDispatch: Stop, sign: Gibbs calls timeout to thank fans

Post by ANT7088 »

Thousands of fans come to Washington Redskins practices every day, some to see the team, some to see Joe Gibbs coach the team again after an 11-year absence.

Gibbs has his players and coaches on a tight schedule, and rarely a day goes by that he does not apologize for the lack of time they have to give autographs.

Yesterday, though, Gibbs made sure one group of young fans got his autograph.

Gibbs was on a riser answering questions during his post-practice press conference. And in the middle of an answer, he suddenly said, "Let me take a break here for a second."

Gibbs had seen a group of parents taking their mentally and physically handicapped children, all in wheelchairs, out of practice.

Gibbs jumped off the riser and called out, "Do you guys need anything? I'm sorry I didn't see you earlier." Gibbs signed the T-shirt and cap of every one of the children and posed for several pictures. He thanked them for coming out to practice. One young man thanked Gibbs for returning to coach the Redskins.

After that, Gibbs returned to the riser and resumed the press conference where he had left off.

A true leader whom truely cares for the fans.I pesonally saw him stay extra long on Sat to make sure everyone got to meet him and sign something for them. Other big names left fans crying (kids) and others very dissapionted. But Joe Gibbs is a man who's heart is really in it. Hail to Joe Gibbs !! We are so lucky

I saw that on TV, what a great person Gibbs is. I knew other (Dallas fans mostly) will look at it as a "photo op" but this is nothing new for Gibbs this is who he is!! I just hope the players of today aren't above learning from this man, he will help you in so many ways other than football!

not only did he stay extra long, he signed everyone that waited in his line. they cut the lines off, and he didn't turn a single person away, for the peeps that made it to his line before they cut it off. he then signed a herd of things for people(mostly kids) who were on the VIP side while heading in. pure class. smoot also finished his line up after the cut offs.

ps. i was lucky enough to get one from joe. :D \:D/
a perfect end to a perfect week. :)

btw, it was nice meeting you in person, screwgun.
