Dolphins Renew Interest In Redskins WR Rod Gardner

The Miami Dolphins have resumed talks with the Washington Redskins for fourth year veteran receiver Rod Gardner. Gardner was in early negotiations with Miami in the Adewale Ogunleye deal which broke down. However, with the recent lost of David Boston on Friday, the Miami Dolphins have renewed interest in the former Clemson star. It is unknown if Ogunleye would be in this current proposed deal but talks of a contract settlement with Miami have still gone nowhere. Gardner had 59 catches for 600 yards and five touchdowns last year for the Redskins.

If O-Gun isn't apart of the talks
then
What are we talking about

Sweet! I'd make that deal if it involves Ogunleye. We better not give up too much because WE have the upper hand if there are any talks.

I won't be upset if a deal doesn't happen but I'm just glad there's something to gossip about now.

Yeah but how many times have we had this discussion? If we wait someone else will leave Dolphin camp and we offer them even less
I was thinking maybe throw in Betts but they're desparate ...no need to do that right now

They got all kinds of injuries and D Thompson is looking at being a starter

I had a feeling this would happen after Boston went down. Miami is in deep crap if they don't make some type of deal with somebody. Wow, what a week for Miami, and we can reep the benefits from it if this trade goes through. I agree with Jake, let's not give up too much because we defenitely have the upper hand. I really think its a no lose situation for us on either side of the coin.

PLEASE [-o< [-o< make this deal our wideouts are in great shape, and that would be a great trade for us to get a STUD on the D-LINE !!

is this just a rumor or is there any aubstance to it ???? REDSKINZ4EVER !!!

I have been praying for this. I dont care if we get the de or not--maybe just a draft pick. I never want to see Rod drop another pass while he is wearing burgandy and gold. McCants will be great as a second receiver and imagine with his size what he will do to the corners on rushing plays.

I bet you're breathing a lot easier now that we are talking Gardner not Samuels any more, huh Jake?

I cannot beleive i'm saying this.. but I wouldnt be totally opposed to this trade. I really like Rod gardner. I reall y do.. but we have such a good set of wide outs and such a shortage on the D line that this would be a very good trade for us..If it happens i am really happy.. if it doesnt happen .. im still happy :-D

I realy dont think you guys are in that good of shape at the WR's position.

Coles is playing hurt
Jacobs is injury prone
Tharsh is no better then a third reciever now second at best.
Russel is injury prone also
McCants is good, just needs to shine he could be a second a solid 3rd WR
Cloman is up and coming barely a 3rd.

So in retrospect you have a hurt #1 guy, if you get rid of Gardner all you would have is some other injury prone #3 guys, and Trash and McCants.

Not surprising but I disagree

Coles is playing hurt
is better than most No 1s in the league
McCants is good, just needs to shine he could be a second a solid 3rd WR

will excell as a No 2 given the chance
Tharsh is no better then a third reciever now second at best.

No 2 or 3 is why we brought him back ... he does not need to be the "goto guy"
Cloman is up and coming barely a 3rd.

with Gardner gone he'll get his shot
Jacobs is injury prone
Russel is injury prone also

Due to injuries you can't say what they are capable of but when they're not hurt they are both burners

Thats 6 receivers that should be servicable and with the H-Back on the field quite a bit I'd have to agree we can trade Gardner and still be well off at this position and improve the D-line to boot

This trade WOULD improve the team.... if it happens

Besies, Gambit. It's back to smash-mouth NFC East Football for these Redskins. Run, run, run.
Excess wide receivers are an afterthought.

I wouldn't be opposed to a one-for-one swap if this were the old days before salary caps, but let's not forget it's not enough to acquire the rights to Ogunleye -- you also have to sign him to a contract, and that isn't going to be easy.

Getting rid of Gardner's contract would free up some of the room you'd need, and you might get a little more by releasing someone like Regan Upshaw, who wouldn't figure to make the team anyway. But depending on how Upshaw's contract is written, it might be more expensive to cut him than keep him. I haven't heard anyone address issues like that and, until I do, I'll reserve judgment on a trade like this.

Well said Jeff. One for one is fine by me. We gave up a pick for Portis and that still rubs me wrong. As Jeff said, signing Ogu%^#^( will be the hard part. Although, he may be a little happier coming here than dealing with miami's troubles.
I also have to agree with Gambit. If Coles is out for any reason, I'm not going to be a happy camper. He IS our guy. If he falters due to injury, we won't have a #1 and nobody can argue that. Everyone else on our squad is a #2 at best.
And that brings me back to Portis. I'm still not sold on him until he proves it to me. The way denver has plugged backs in and they all do well makes me sick to my stomach thinking what we may have gotten ourselves into. I do think he's better than average, but is he the stud everyone makes him out to be?

Hello, thanks for letting me join this site. How reputable is profootballcentral.com? Is there reason to believe that this story is true or is it just a rumormill site?

This Miami-Skins trade of Rod Gardner AGAIN for possibly Ogun.... who is the source of this rumor?

I've been checking Miami and Washington newspapers and other sources for a month and I have yet to read anywhere where any reputable writer has mentioned Gardner being traded to Miami except on Pro Football Central. So who came up with this rumor?

Danny will find some way to work out the contract, you don't have to worry about that. I don't think Upshaw would have to be cut. He is supposedly having a monster camp. If Coles goes down, right now, we still have only #2 recievers at best anyway. Gardner is not a #1 guy. All the postings about Portis on this site, from people who have seen him in training camp, say he is an increadible talent. Boss Hog raves about him, and you have to believe the boss!

I think that this would be a smart move. I think that Vinny and Dan get too excited when something like this come's up. They need to be taught to play poker and show a poker face. When something like this comes up they'll give up the farm. I just hope if this does happend then they'll be smart and sit back a second and think it through. We could give up two players for him to relieve us from some cap space.

With the depth at receiver, we can afford to trade Gardner for our most glaring need. Although, I don't think I would include Betts in the deal. He may prove to be a valuable backup. It's kind of late now to be trading players. Even trade or not at all. My 2 cents

Heard a rumor that Miami is talking to Jacksonville about Fred Taylor for O-Gun....
I don't think that's going to happen either

dude, you should see him upclose and in person. its sick. he can change direction in mid air. i saw him run in a barry sanders type mold just about every time he touched the ball in 11 on 11 drills this past week. he makes defenders look stupid.

that said, portis is a little off topic.

some one also mentioned regan upshaw. he was blowing it up early last week. he also got around chris samuels twice in one on ones at fan day.

i'm a little more at ease with our line after this past week. no real need for ogun, unless we get a can't resist offer.

and welcome to the board, onefathgog. you'll like it here.

I would hate to see Gardner go. But we need De's more than WR's. ( Especially with Gari Scott and Jafar Williams playin the way they did on Monday. ) Our recieving corp this year is gonna be rough n stuff. I like Renaldo Wynn as well at DE but we need more depth there.
