Wow...I can't believed he signed without seeing what some of the other top 10 got? Is he the first top ten pick to sign?

Excellent news. Taylor's going to blow some stuff up this year.
From what I heard regarding LaVar, his situation may not likely be resolved before November. That being said, I want to see LA come out hungry and ready to crack some heads come September. If the Skins can add the O-Gun, whoo boy, that's going to be one swell party.
BTW, I've been lurking here for the last two months and finally decided it was time to get off my duff and register. This appears to be a happening place. RedeemedSkin, I'm digging on your avatar and signature. They pretty much sum up the man that is Joe Gibbs.

I officially recant my statement of concern over Sean Taylor's character. The slate is clean. Let's keep it that way Sean!

Nonetheless, Taylor will become the club's first first-round pick to report on time for training camp since cornerback Champ Bailey in 1999.
Can you say irony?

Yes I can, wasn't your boy Chris Samuels in camp on time? I believe that quote should read, he was the first overall pick of the Redskins to be in camp on time since Champ Bailey.

Nope. He held out for a day if I'm not mistaken. LaVar was picked one spot ahead of him, so LaVar was our top pick.
Redskins Sign First-Round Pick Taylor
By JOSEPH WHITE
The Associated Press
Tuesday, July 27, 2004; 8:46 AM
ASHBURN, Va. - The Washington Redskins agreed to a seven-year, $18 million deal with first-round draft pick Sean Taylor, The Associated Press has learned.
After late night negotiations, Taylor was on a flight to Washington on Tuesday morning to sign his contract, according to agent Jeff Moorad.
"We agreed to terms as the clock struck midnight," Moorad said.
A Redskins official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the agreement and said the team would likely hold a news conference later Tuesday.
The amount of the contract was confirmed by a party involved in the negotiations, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been signed. The source said Taylor will received a $7.2 million signing bonus, and that the total bonus money in the deal - including option and roster bonuses - exceeds $13 million.
The source also said the contract has escalators that can make the deal worth up to $40 million over six years, while the seventh year can be voided. The escalators are based on three areas - playing time, on-field performance and Pro Bowl or All-Pro selections.
Taylor, the No. 5 overall pick, is expected to be Washington's opening day starter at free safety.

7 years is pretty long for a rookie contract but I like it.

Which is why I ammended the original quote to read first overall instead of first first-rounder. But if you say he held out a day I will believe you.

Samuels was a first-round pick, just not our first first-rounder. I thought he was in camp on time, but you say he held out a day. Does that explain it?

Oh, ok. I see where you're coming from but LaVar and Chris weren't in camp on time.

I thought they had changed the rules so 7 year contracts were not allowed. Is his contract an exception?
