Cowboys and Eddie George rumor

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

I was gonna point out that Jerry and Bill are starting to look over our way for ideas. He he. They'll be looking up at us for a looooooooooooooong time.

BTW - How soon are your sources expecting an announcement?

And, more importantly, will he be in Cowboys gear on Madden 2005?

I doubt Eddie George is going to agree to play in Dallas as a back-up...

I have him signed with Philly on Madden... don't have a link, though.

Even if he goes to Dallas, he can't be compared to the likes of Clinton Portis. Several years back, it would be a fair comparison but not anymore.

George will probably get 900 or less this season. I smell an Emmitt Smith situation looming... :fart:

Oh, and if you call who we sign "aging veterans", the what do you call Keyshawn Johnson and Vinny Testeverde?

I hope he does, because I would much rather face the funble machine known as Julius Jones.

So you say fumble machines.......LOL ...that shows your ignorance......you are a typical Deadskin fan, all talk and no research, because if you did your research you would see that Jones either had the same amount or less fumbles then the other backs that were drafted.

That doesn't mean it wasn't a lot. I couldn't care less how it compared. As long as he fumbles against the skins, that all I care about......I knew I could get you to take the bait....

Cowboys | George to Visit - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 22 Jul 2004 13:11:37 -0700

ESPNews reports free agent RB Eddie George (Titans) is scheduled to meet with the Dallas Cowboys Friday, July 23.

Cowboys | Confident in Jones' Starting Ability ROTFALMAO - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 22 Jul 2004 12:26:19 -0700

Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports the Dallas Cowboys are confident rookie RB Julius Jones can become the team's feature running back this season. "Julius Jones has a chance to carry the load," owner Jerry Jones said. "He doesn't have to carry the load, but he can. He showed us some things in the spring. But he just needs to be a player for us. Running back is a place a rookie can play, faster than any other (position) on the team."

It looks like it's going to be Dallas. I just saw on ESPN news that Philly isn't interested, Oakland and Tampa are only willing to offer the league minimum, which I doubt Eddie will take. Dallas has scheduled a meeting for Friday. He'll be a Cowboy.

If this was 4 years ago I'd be worried. Eddie is no doubt a solid addition but with age his skilled his diminished. I dont think he's as far off his rocker as Emmit, but he's nothing to sweat over.

I just saw an interview with Eddie on NFL network. He kind of down played Dallas and seemed like he wanted to go to Philly.

He may take a wait and see approach....
Instead, we're hearing that George may wait until one or more established running backs are dinged up during training camp and/or the preseason, which could create an instant need for his services.

I'm all for JJ getting the start this year, but to have EG as a backup..... even you Skins fans wouldn't complain about that! BP's Ball Control Offense can surely get something out of EG!

But despite his numbers being on the decline, the Cowboys, especially with Bill Parcells in charge, might be a good spot for George to land. Parcells has a history of squeezing life out of aging backs, as he did with Ottis Anderson, who joined the Giants when he turned 29 back in 1986. While Anderson was more of a role player for his first two years with the club, Anderson rushed for nearly 2,000 yards and had 33 rushing touchdowns in a three-year span, including 1,023 yards and a career-high 14 touchdowns in 1989 at the ripe age of 32.

Parcells also milked production out of Keith Byars with both the Patriots and Jets in the mid-1990's. Byars played two seasons in New England and then finished his career with the Jets at age 35. That season he caught 26 passes as a third-down back and scored three touchdowns.

That's OK though, keep acting like you wouldn't want a Heisman Trophy Winner, who ranks 17th on the all time rushing list!

You really think George is gonna go to Dallas to back up a rookie? I just see his pride getting in the way of that scenario....I mean atleast if he went to Tampa or Philly you might have an argument that he has to compete with veteran's but George isn't exactly washed-out... less George like yes, washed-out... no.... I would think the Boys would have to really consider making him a starter if they want to sign him.... IMO

Dallas will be a RB by committe, if that means the Rook starts, I don't see him having a problem with it...especially under BP!

I still don't see what's so special about signing a guy who's been less than mediocre for four consecutive years.

4644 Yards the last four years is mediocre?
2000-1509Yards
2001-939Yards
2002-1165Yards
2003-1031Yards

Obviously you are just listening to the media about his 3.3 yard average last year. If you go look at his stats, his best year was a 4.1 yard average and a 3.7 overall. Also the last few years has been a switch from running as much to more passing by McNair. He has had some injuries, but if he can still be an insurance policy or a RB By Committee for us, you have to agree George is a very servicable back!

Oh a few more stats, 15th best in rushing yards last year and the 14th best in rushing yards in 2002!
