WT: Redskins' Taylor ready to talk deal

Sean Taylor finally hired an agent yesterday, paving the way for the Washington Redskins and their first-round draft pick to open contract negotiations less than a week before players start arriving for training camp.
Taylor, the fifth pick overall in April's draft, had been without representation for almost three months before hiring Miami-based agent Eugene Mato yesterday. Mato actually will hand the negotiating duties to associate Jeff Moorad, a high-profile baseball agent.

"He's very excited," Mato said. "He's as eager as anyone to get into camp and show them and the fans of Washington what he can do."
That's what we like to read. After months of not really hearing anything this is music to my ears.

Awesome, we got Mark Wilson in the fold, too. 2 down, two to go.

I can't wait until Sean smacks TO on to the injured reserve list.

More than likely he will sign before the start of camp. Moorad is usually a quick and easy agent, but knows how to get the money for his clients as well.

"He's very excited," Mato said. "He's as eager as anyone to get into camp and show them and the fans of Washington what he can do."
I loved to hear that but there is one problem. This is the agent speaking, is he trying to make us feel great so he has his way with the negotiations?
I want to hear TAYLOR speak about his feelings toward playing for the skins.

I like the sound of the below statement from Taylor's new agent. It sounds like he's been working on a deal in case Taylor signed him as an agent... Let's hope it happens quickly!
"He did wait a substantial amount of time to make his decision," Mato said. "We always were prepared in case we were the last one standing, so we have a head start in that regard."
Mato said the deal might even be done in time for a three-day passing camp that begins Monday, ahead of the full-fledged training camp.

I love it.
To all you dumbasses who insulted Taylor, I hear a nice side of potatoes au gratin goes very well with your huge serving of CROW.
Seriously, over the last month, I've seen insults about Taylor being unintelligent, unmotivated to be a Redskin, childish, a liar, etc, etc, etc...
You call yourselves fans? This is the most exciting draft pick for the Skins in YEARS and this guy will likely anchor our defense for YEARS.
I think I'll go back and quote all the negative crap you all have been saying about this guy and send it to him, just so Sean can see how wonderful the Redskins' "fans" are...

I fail to see how questioning someone's motivations for witing until 10 days before camp starts to sign an agent has anything to do with his abilities or our worth as fans. Regardless of how good he is or will be, it was still a bonehead move. And not only for the redskins or for the fans, but mostly for himself.

Your point is well taken, except for calling everyone dumbasses and questioning people's fandom. Please keep personal attacks to the Smack forum.
I agree that Taylor will be a force for years and this impatience is just that... but there's no need to insult others for their opinion.
A lot of your posts have this tone... why the hostility brother?

It's nice that "JansenFan" from Flint Hill, VA knows what's better for Sean Taylor than Sean Taylor does. You must be REALLY smart!
He did nothing wrong in waiting to find the right agent for him. Sounds to me like he has his priorities perfectly straight, and takes his time making major life decisions (oh, the HORROR!) But immediately most of you all started calling him an idiot, selfish, or questioned his loyalty to the Redskins.
I seriously doubt those same insults were wheeled at Patrick Ramsey while he
actually held out. Take that however you wish.

That's an overgeneralized statement if I've heard one. I wanted him from the get go but it was highly unusual for a first round draft pick to go this long w/out signing an agent. I'm exited to see him in B and G ... next step - sign the contract and get into camp so we can enjoy seeing him knock some heads off.

It just bothers me that I come to join a great Redskins fanatic site (compliments to you), but hear nothing but complaining and insults thrown at the most exciting Redskin prospect in recent memory.
Sorry, I guess my love for the Redskins is a bit too strong. I'll try to take it down a thousand....

There's nothing wrong with passion man! Keep it up but don't wrap everyone's fandom into a bundle - that pisses me off.
On another note, looking back, Redskins fans have a right to be gun shy with first rounders - look at Desmond Howard and Heath Shuler... holdouts that were supposed to be in this franchise for a long time that were busts.
Taylor has the ability to be great - we all want him in camp so he can maximize his skills and help immediately. I've said that all along!

First of all, Ramsey had an agent....HUGE difference. Secondly, I was mad that he held out of camp.
As far as the agent is concerned, you can't get your contract signed till you have an agent. He picked the guy that he was rumored to be picking 2 months ago and at the same rate, so he gained nothing and he lost two months to get to know his agent and begin defining what he was looking for and for his agent to get to know the skins and make them aware of what they are looking for. I don't know how this could be good for him, since he gained nothing and lost two months out of the process.
That being said, just because the way it was handled called into question his motives, doesn't mean I don't look forward to him being on the field and smashing heads. It just means that he can't be on the field without a contract or an agent. I apologize if some one questioning his motives ruins your day. Hail to the Redskins.

I agree, getting an agent is what he was
supposed to do. He does not get bonus points for it.
Fact is he skipped mini camp sessions, walked out of the NFL Rookie seminar (and used a wack excuse), and procrastinated on getting an agent. These facts speak volumes of his character and he has officially put himself under the Joe Gibbs microscope.
In a perfect world Taylor would have attended every mini-camp, attended the rookie seminar and listened carefully, and stuck with Drew Rosenhaus and signed the first rookie contract in June. Those all could have been done, especially 2 of the 3.
Still a Sean Taylor fan? YES
Taylor in the dog house? ALMOST
Taylor acting like a "Redskin"? NO

Sounds like your love for Sean Taylor is stonger than it is for the Redskins organization.
The stunts Taylor has pulled have not been cool. He's been on the thin line BUT has not crossed it. The front office and fans have every right to ride Taylor's ass for going against the grain. Otherwise the young kid will keep testing the limits to see how far he can cross the line.
If he gets in camp on time and works hard ALL of this will be a forgotten flash in his potentially brilliant career.

Yes, Sean Taylor did waste a few months to get to know his agent...but I wouldn't be at all surprised that, during S.T.'s delay, Mato went to the Skins discussed informally what he may be after . . . if/when Taylor signed with him. I may be wrong about that...but I wouldn't be surprised if that happened.

Mato did say they have been acting the whole time as if they were going to be "The Last Agents Standing"
"He did wait a substantial amount of time to make his decision," Mato said. "We always were prepared in case we were the last one standing, so we have a head start in that regard."
Sound pretty professional to me. I think he will work well with Danny/Vinny...they'll bang this out. When it comes down to it Snyder won't have a holdout. I am sure they are talking at this very moment.

This might(IS) be the biggest decision he's making in his life! Yea he took tooooo long, but I'm sure when he signs his contract he doesn't want to have the same problem that Lavar is having! So I think he was just being careful. We have 10 days to go, if he doesn't sign by then, then it's a problem. Until then this is just an annoying, rambling story, that is going to make this next week and a half feel like forever!

It is the same decision 31 other 1st round picks are making...but those 31 did not wait until the last minute...or skip some practices....or walk out of the rookie seminar.
Tired of beating a dead horse. Taylor gets a clean slate in my book on July 30th (if he is there).

I hope you are right JH. From listening to the agents, it seems they thought it was probably going to happen and have been preparing. They usually reperesent MLB players, but from what I have read they seem to be fairly easy to work with while getting their clients top dollar (i.e. ManRam).
