Bad back to force Gardener to retire

Defensive tackle Daryl Gardener, who revived his career with the Washington Redskins just 1½ years ago, is almost certain to retire in coming months because of the degenerative condition in his back, a source familiar with the situation said yesterday.
Gardener flourished in Washington in 2002 under defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis, elevating the defense and earning the club's player of the year award. But he never settled in with the Denver Broncos after signing a six-year, $33 million contract and apparently won't get another chance.

Rest of Story....

Should have stayed with the skins instead of bolting for the money. May not have made a difference as far as his injury goes, but this is where he made is comeback.

Although here for only a short time, he was one of our best Defensive Tackles Ever.

This sucks....he had so much potential. I enjoyed watching him playing hurt and still throwing offensive lineman on the butt and getting the pressure he needed.

Remember the Rams game that year??? He got the push in the middle and LaVar came from the outside causing fumble that went right to him. His 300 lb body fell on it and didn't move for about 10 seconds after the whistle. Noone was getting that ball from him. Game winning play right there.

I wish him the best!!!

I do remember that rams game. He totally shoved, i think Kurt Warner, out of the way to recover the fumble. He was such a monster when he was with us. I remember him playing with a lot of passion, its too bad he had to end like this.

On the bright side, this should be the thread that ends all "Daryl Gardener" threads. Seriously, folks. It was beginning to look like a Bruce Smith redux. We got his last best year from him, and that's all he had left. Let's be thankful, and move on.
