Former NFL player shares secrets

Former Washington Redskins’ receiver Alvin Garrett shared some of his motivational secrets with players attending the Football for Christ Camp Saturday at Albertville High School.
Garrett, who won a Super Bowl ring with the Redskins in 1983, is a friend of Aggie head coach Sam Graham. The men became friends when Graham was coaching at North Alabama and recruited Garrett’s son.
“Alvin opened up the camp speaking to the kids like he did last year,” Graham said. “Alvin is a great guy, and he just set the tone for the camp.”
Garrett said, “I talk to a lot of football teams and at camps, but I basically came to this one because of my relationship with Sam.
“He gave me a couple of dollars, but with Sam, he wouldn’t have to pay me at all because our relationship is like that.”
Garrett said he told the campers the most important part of being the best you can be or being a champion is always giving maximum effort.
“Once you give all you’ve got, then you’re satisfied. Anything less, and you’re going to walk off the field or your season’s going to finish and you’re not going to be satisfied.
“Whenever a person gives everything he’s got, whether he wins or loses, he’s satisfied. Whatever business that you have in life, a person is not truly satisfied unless he puts it all on the line.”
Garrett, Art Monk and Charlie Brown formed the Redskins’ famed receiving corps known as “The Smurfs.”
Garrett played for Joe Gibbs, who came out of retirement to replace Steve Spurrier as the Redskins’ head coach.
Garrett predicts Gibbs will restore the Redskins’ championship ways.
“Joe Gibbs is a proven winner, and anything less than winning or perfect is unacceptable with him,” Garrett said.
“They better watch out for the Redskins. He’ll do it again, I mean there’s no doubt. They’re putting it together now.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they pull it off this year, the first year he comes back. I’m serious, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

I can't wait for this season to start.
It still hasn't sunk into me that Coach Gibbs is back. I don't think it will, until I see him coming out of that tunnel to take the field.
I can't wait for this season to start.

One thing about the story. Art Monk was not a "Smurf" He was to big. The smurfs were Garrett, Brown and Virgil Seay all who were small 5'10" or less. Monk was a member of the "Fun Bunch" as were all the recievers on the team except Don Warren who was a Hog.

Cold.
I loved the Smurfs. Nice to read something positive about a former NFL player.

Right, he's been living on Mars since his retirement...
Come up with a constructive argument for once.

Hey ! Wait ! I typed a direct quote from Cosell. I didn't pick the emoticon for monkey. It put itself in there !
Try it !
"Would you look at that little monkey run"
"Would you look at that little

run"
Apparently, since I capitalized the word in the first post, and again in the third time I wrote the word "monkey", the Hogs.net assumes I want a finger-flashin' ape to make my point. Spelling it with the lowercase "m" gives me the word I wanted.. Huh. I'm learnin'.

!
It makes poor old Howard look really bad, though.

I can't wait for this "TheKey" guy to go off on 1 profanity laced tirade so BossHog can give him the pink slip.....
Later, Key, your time here is shortlived....not a matter of if, but when...
