The Wizards traded Jerry Stackhouse, Christian Laettner, and the #5 overall pick to the Mavericks for Antawn Jamison!
I don't wanna brag but I called it! I was talking to my brother-in-law, a Wizards fan, and I was talking to him about an article I read regarding the Wiz possibly trading the number 5 pick to the Mavs, Pacers, and another team. I just said "Antawn Jamison" jokingly not knowing a deal would be done so quickly.
I'm not gonna say the Wiz got screwed but they didn't get enough in return. It's good they got rid of Laettner and Stack but they gave their fifth overall pick away and didn't get enough in return. Now they don't have a first rounder. I hope they plan on getting another first rounder.
I also just realized something... we now have 3 former Golden State Warriors: Larry Hughes, Antawn Jamison, amd Gilbert Arenas.

Oh this is amazing! We get rid of Stackhouse and Laettner (and let's face it, we weren't going to get anything that great with the 5 anyway) and pick up a legitimate forward in Jamison. Hope springs eternal...

We gave up way too much; but hey we did get Jamison. Ive liked him since he was at UNC.

The Wizards philosophy now is that they don't want anymore 'young guys'. They want good, talented vets. I don't expect them to get a first rounder anymore. I hope they are this successful in free agency.

In a ironic twist, 'Wizards' guard Jerry Stackhouse and Gilbert Arenas are on Best Damn Sports Show Period right now.

I like the deal I just wish that Jamison made less then he did! Antawn Jamison $12,584,688
$13,843,157 $15,101,626 $16,360,095 those are his salaries for the next 4 years. Thank god we got rid of Laetnar who makes a smidgen under 6.2 mil this year then is a free agent! Stack makes 7 mil this year! This is still a good move! I do wish we got more in return! But now we should shop Jeffries or Hayes for a Center? Or Go after Free Agent Kenyon Martin!

I think it was a good trade for the Wiz. Jamison is a solid player while Stack and Latener are addition by subtraction. The #5 pick might have landed us Luel Deng who might one day be okay.

I don't think Deng would have lasted until 5.
Regardless, this is exciting, although the salary issue is a little dissapointing. If everyone could stay healthy, we finally have enough young, energetic guys (who unlike Stackhouse, WANT to play) to make a playoff run.
1: Gilbert Arenas (21 years old)
2: Larry Hughes (24 years old)
3: Jarvis Hayes (22 years old)
4: Antawn Jamison (27 years old)
5: Kwame Brown (21 years old)
OR
1: Gilbert Arenas (21 years old)
2: Larry Hughes (24 years old)
3: Antawn Jamison (27 years old)
4: Kwame Brown (21 years old)
5: Etan Thomas (25 years old)/Brendan Haywood (24 yeard old)
This team has good scoring potential, plenty of size and an incredible amount of youth. Between Jamison, Hughes and Arenas I worry about their defense, but the fact is with Stackhouse and Laettner gone, Jamison is by far the oldest player who will recieve any significant playing time.
I'm very excited about this team. If we can just let our big men develop (we have to hold on to Etan and Kwame), then this franchise might actually have a future...

People, its the wizards....if anyone can screw up, its them. I refuse to be excited by the wizards until I see results(I fell into this trap when they got MJ). Also, antawn jamison makes max salary, so if he gets injured, they are screwed, and they probably cant add any free agents.

Forgive my ignorance, but I haven't followed the Wiz since the name change......am an old Bullets fan from the late 70s........has there ever been any discussion to change the name back? Also, is the fan base still strong and filling, I assume, the new arena, because I believe I read on here that the Cap Center was torn down?

I'm glad you guys are chatting with Jake about this....cause he tries to tell me all this stuff and I simply do not care about basketball.....or what happens...I'll go to a free game if it's offered...and I'll root for the home team....but that's about it !! Ha !!

Oh...and yes Texas...they blew up the cap center and now they play at the MCI Center. However....no news about changing the name back to the Bullets....guess it's not politically correct....like anything else in DC is, right ??

Texas H, for such a losing team, they draw moderately well. I work about 5 blocks from the MCI Center - nice arena. I'm hoping that once Abe Polen finally decides to sell, the new owner would have some sense knocked back into him and change the name back. They'll always be the bullets to me.

I think the least they could do is go back to the old school uniforms. They could still be called the Wizards, just use the old Bullets unis. They could even have those two arms coming out from the "W".
The problem is Abe Pollin wants to have a politically correct name. I'm not sure when that meant he had to have a stupid name, but I sure wish he would come up with something better...

Wow Steve, I completely agree with you. Satckhouse was an absolute clun house cancer, and proved he wasnt worth his contract when he officially benched himself 2 months before the season was over, even when doctors told him he was able to play. As for Laettner, he can go fail drug tests somewhere else. I did appreciate how he played but apparently there was alot of friction between him and the younger players.
The wiz have a plethora of young players and this was one of the weakest drafts in recent years. The wizards needed immediate help and they got it by getting jamison. This deal was the absolute best thing that could have happened for the franchise right now. Mark Cuban lets us unload two contracts of overpayed veterans. He seems to like taking contracts off our hands (juwan howard)
