Ignorant, not racist...

I think calling him "racist" is a little harsh. I agree that "stupid", "ignorant" and/or....especially "insensitive" would be better labels for him....and, of course, "FAT".

Grumble, grumble...

All fixed...

Still, what a dummy...

"no offense to the orientals, but we're running what we call "jap" plays, surprises."

He may as well have said:

"No offense to those sneaky slants, but we're going to run some "jap" plays this camp... little surprises!"

Hey that was kinda of ignorant and not well thought, but we are all not without fault.

I bet some of you say something stupid from time to time. I know i do. Every time I go to NY and get in a cab.

I didn't know beautiful throw rugs could be offended.

I think it was stupid of him to say that but is Jap being short for Japanese racist? If it is then Aussie for Australian, Brit for British is just as racist. It was a bad choice of words in todays "please don't offend anyone" world. Everyone needs to go watch or listen to Carlos Mencia, Can't anybody take a *bleeping* joke?

It wasn't the Jap reference, and probably not saying Oriental instead of Asian, it was the whole surprise attack angle attached to it that got everybody (except the Jap reporter :) ) in a huff.

this is BS.
things in this country get blown way out of proportion. it seems every race, gender or creed will have a couple loudmouths that will push even the smallest issue for a little publicity.

ps japs are sneaky.

In the words of Carlos Mencia, "Oh your not Oriental, the rugs you make are Freakin Oriental, the food you cook is Oreintal, your from the Orient... I just added an "a" & "l" *bleeper*. If anyone has not heard this guy, you need to! How quickly everyone forgets what the Japanese did to Americans. I guess we can't people from Afghanistan Afghans, let's not forget what these guys did to American soil either!

When i use to work in the Restaurant business, we use to call out for a side of jalapenos like this:

"Hey, I need a side of JAPS!"

Maybe, Billy boy was refering to Jalapenos instead of the Japanese :D

Or, "JAP" could've been referring to "Jewish American Princess". I have no idea how that could relate to a football play though...

p.s. I really don't see this as being the most offensive thing ever said (not that anybody else does either). I'll go with insensitive/ignorant. I think that the actions the NFL is taking are appropriate (i.e. no action)

I really do enjoy how far these politically incorrect moments go on a slow news days...i mean c'mon, parcells is football coach not the pope or the president...i betcha if you hung around tuna for a full practice you'd probably hear every slur in the book preceded by "bleep'n"...

very much so.....

Tuna is stupid making that word public. Even though I doubt he's rascist. I think that as a head coach, who has been in the league as long as him, must know that going public with that remark is just plain stupid. Your supposed to set the example as a head coach. Keeping it on the practice field is one thing, but going public....I don't need to say it again.

The funny thing is that I can't recall Parcells doing something this stupid publicly before.

This country has become way to sensative. I'm sure he didn't mean to insult all Japanese people. We all need to ligthen up a little. :D

Ditto

There had to be other sports news that could have been the lead story around the country... how bout the NHL okay maybe not the NHL but something

If it was that bad why didn't the NFL say something? good or bad who wants to Bill Parcells all day

How PC are we? We're just saying that people should stop making stupid an insensitive statements...

No one is calling for Tuna to lose his NFL pension or to be fired!

I was a dumb thing to say to imply that all Japanese people are shifty and underhanded.

they are sneaky, this is america, tuna can say what he wants. from now on i will officially refer to trick suprise plays as jap plays. unfortunantly a puke had to come up with it.
oh, BTW whats the difference in a redskin calling an honest, hard working texan cowpuke fan a puke, and an american(who is famous and happens to be a puke) calling a jap a jap? NOTHING, unless it was meant in a degrading way..... and it wasn't. tuna did nothing wrong, except signing on with the blue star. japanese americans can get offended if they hear "jap" for all i care. i've got more insults i could shake at them, but i won't, BECAUSE THIS WHOLE FREAKIN THING IS BLOWN WAY OUT OF PROPORTION.............

Do you think kids over in the middle east refer to bullies as "Americans"?

It's just a dumb thing to say, and making racial generalizations is ignorant... if you want to join the ignorance bandwagon too, then be my guest.

i think coutries all over the world have names for americans. i have british friends who refer to me as yank. i also know a couple orientals that refer to us as "round eyes". and EVERYONE is guilty of using these names. even you, whether you care to admit it or not.

and i'm already on the ignorant bandwagon, i'm as ignorant as they come

I don't see whats so wrong with "Japs"....it's just short for "Japaneese"..... Does that mean were not aloud use other abreviated words like:

Brit's
Jew's
Czech's
Turk's

Did I just offend 4 groups of people right there? I think everyone in this world needs to "lighten up"..... Chris Rock uses "Cracker, Honkey, or Redneck" almost everytime he's on stage.... I don't see anyone jumping on his back..... I've heard alot worse words for the Japaneese than "Japs"..... LIGHTEN UP!

True but Chris Rock is a comedian, and he talks about all races.
