Pittsburgh Steelers QB Tommy Maddox has agreed, in principle, to a new four-year deal that includes a $2 million signing bonus, and a contract that could be worth up to $14 million if he hits all of his incentives, according to John Clayton of ESPN.com. Maddox will receive starting pay over the first two years of his contract, and then get backup pay for the remainder of the deal. The plan is for Maddox to be the team's starter this year, with rookie QB Ben Roethlisberger taking over in 2005 or 2006. Under the old five-year, $5 million deal Maddox signed in 2002, when he was Kordell Stewart's backup, he would have only made $750,000 in 2004.
