Marcus Bell's the name. He was pretty average in Arizona. Well, who isn't? I guess he's okay but I think it takes longer for average DT's to become good than defensive ends (Jamal Reynolds hopefully).
Plus he's from Arizona. A lot of negatives will come a long with this guy. I think the Skins will be very selective in their signings, meaning they probably won't make any more for a while.

I think that the redskins should be fine. The Bills had no real pass rush on their d-line last year, but they did fine with gregg williams. True, they had better tackles on their line, but williams will generate pressure on the QB from the linebacker and safety spots. Marcus Wahskington and Lavar should put up more than a few sacks, and Sean Taylor, too.

I'm not really worried about pass rush as much as I am about run defense up the middle. There is nothing more demoralizing than seeing a runningback reel huge chunks of yardage play after play. God knows we've seen enough of that since Gibbs was last here (Mike Nolan anyone?)...

Last year we could not stop the run. I was horrible seeing Troy Hambrick crank out first down after first down.
We don't need to add other teams cast offs. Thats what we did last year. Picking up any guy just because he is listed as a DT or DE isn't going to get us anywhere. WE don't lack depth we lack an impact player. We lack discipline and scheme. That is we used to lack those things.
I think that Cornelius Griffin is going to surprise people. I really feel like he just underacheived under coach Fassel because of how Fassell coached the team. Fassell wasn't much better than Spurrier when it came to discipline, work ethic, or paying attention to the defense. When Griffin came into the league he was a beast, but each year under Fassell he became more and more lax.
I think Gibbs and Williams will put a fire under his butt. And then we will have an impact player on the line.
As others have said before, this will be a good run stopping line. But pressure on the QB will have to come via the blitz.

Just a note on the run defense issue. Last year Barrow led the whole NFL in tackles. AND, he had Griffin playing tackle in front of him. So, I think we can expect improved run defense.

I'm not worried about Griffin. He's big, young and has the potential to be a stud. I'm worried about whoever lines up next to him...

i am not so concerned about pass rushing as most of you guys are.....to me stopping the run is priority number 1....and i think our d-line is incredibly stocked with run stuffers........everyone knows u set up the pass with the run and if u cant run and we know it we will get pressure on the qb with lavar and washington. Also, look at phillip daniels, if i remember he was the DE on the bears D that carried that team to a 14-2 record,,and a very dominating D that greg blache was controlling. That d-line did not have 1 single pass rusher....just RUN STUFFERS!!! and great linebackers.......and a great safety....mike brown.....kinda reminds me of the skins now.....oh and walt harris who we picked up....

13-3, sir.
Philly slapped 'em around pretty good that year in the first round. Still, that was a nine sack season for Daniels.
That would be nice to see around here.
