Redskins Team Report
LG Derrick Dockery's footwork already is better than last season, and he will have a better understanding of what he needs to do to be successful. Dockery is huge (6-6, 345) but quick enough to pull. He needs to make better use of his leverage and play with his pads lower. A preseason of pointers from line coach Joe Bugel should smooth out many of the rough edges. . . .
QB Gibran Hamdan will battle Tim Hasselbeck for the No. 3 job. Hamdan has a strong arm but lacks experience. He's getting some in NFL Europe, but whether he'll benefit more from that than he would have by learning the new offense at the team's facility is another question.
SAFETIES ANALYSIS
Sean Taylor brings a rare combination of size, speed and power to the free safety spot. He has the ability to cover a significant amount of ground in a short amount of time, and he is more than capable of delivering cleat-shaking hits. Matt Bowen will slide to strong safety and battle Ifeanyi Ohalete for the starting job. Bowen has decent size and speed, is capable of covering tight ends and is a big hitter. Ohalete is an underrated performer. He's not as good in coverage as Bowen, but Ohalete can deliver big blows at least as well. Andre Lott and Todd Franz will battle for the fourth safety spot. Lott is better in the base defense. He moves quickly and is better in coverage. Franz has struggled in coverage but is a solid special teams player.

Double D did good under Spurriers regime. IMO he was one of the bright spots of last season, though he struggled early that was to be expected. Bugel should really get a lot out of him. Is he a starter for this season?
QB Gibran Hamdan will battle Tim Hasselbeck for the No. 3 job...
NFLE will help Gibran out a lot more than just knowing our playbook. The game will slow down a lot more for him now. He can always learn the playbook during training camp.
Bowen has decent size and speed, is capable of covering tight ends and is a big hitter. Ohalete is an underrated performer. He's not as good in coverage as Bowen, but Ohalete can deliver big blows at least as well.
Does anyone here think that Bowen is capable of covering Shockey, or K2? Maybe the average TE but those two are ridiculous. I think during those games Sean may have to take over at times. From this analysis it sounds like they believe Bowen is the better player between him and Iffy.
Andre Lott and Todd Franz will battle for the fourth safety spot. Lott is better in the base defense. He moves quickly and is better in coverage. Franz has struggled in coverage but is a solid special teams player.
I believe Lott will win this out easily. Franz was picked up for a reason and probally last year coaches couldn't help him develop enough to show us why they saw something in him. Unless this years coaches can do it, I'll say that Lott is going to start.

I hope Ify can beat out Matt Bowen for that starting saftey spot.I just think that Ify brings more energy on defense.

Poor Candidate must be cowering in the corner after last years camp. I'd like to see that hit again.

not only is he in the corner because of that hit, he's sitting there wondering how exactly he's going to make the starting lineup.

Well Im glad he's wondering because Candidate is horrible in Madden so Portis will fix my running game lust.

i don't see gibbs keeping 4 RB's on the roster, so it looks like he's the odd man out........ rock will probably be the onlt FB on the roster. portis, betts, and morton being the HB's, so.........

I can't tell you why, exactly, but Bowen has been my favorite Redskin since we signed him. I really think he's gonna shock some people once he settles in. He's so damned good at layin' the smack down...
Poor, poor Trung. Taylor AND Bowen at Camp.
Talk about being the meat in a nasty sandwich.
Anyway, to just chime in on a point made in an earlier post in this thread, DD did okay after a rough start. I expect that if anyone can settle that Mack Truck down, it's Bugel and a year of NFL experience under D's massive belt.
Oh, man. It's a sweet time to be a Redskins fan.

I truely believe this is going to be a big year for him. I wouldn't even say a pro-bowl appearance is out of the picture. Our line will be one of if not the elite for this season.

Well, the Pro Bowl might be a little premature. I'd love to see it, you can be sure. Hey, the more Redskins, the better...right ? Still, I'd be happy with just some solid play. Might make me feel better about have a 64-year old left-handed quarterback from a warmer climate and packing a history of injuries coming in with a pocket full of gold and looking to start.
Man, I hope Patches is up to it. It would scare teams far more to know that MARK BRUNELL is ready to come in to play if the other team gets rough with Patrick.
The boy might not get so much as a cross-eyed look from the opposing defense all year !

I think Trung is done, I say we should get him off the pay roll and get more playing time for Rock, Dockery is going to do the job out there also, massive guy, and possible probowler...
