when i went over seas in the army people didnt speak alot of english i had my friends and i had my redskins in 1986. to me they werent just a football team they were more i loved them i bled burgundy and gold and flew my colors proudly. not just because of our great players but because us fans stuck together. we even loved them darn cowboys because without them we wouldnt have such a great rivalry or game. but to me the skins meant honesty (dont have to cheat to win) loyalty to each other wed always stick together and friendship. and last but not leat kindness to each other and i believe coach gibs instilled that. at least for me thats why i wear my colors all year round....hail to the skins

just a note my best friend is a eagles fan he grew up in phillie hes as much a fan as i am. when the season they play we talk on the phone because it has gotten nasty in the past i love him but i will get in his grill during the game and he in mine so we cant even watch the games together

That's a hard question. I started following them when I was 11...and, I hate to admit, it was really because I loved their colors then.

Then, as the years passed, I followed the team more closely and cheered them on each week. As I grow older and my stomach grew wider, my passion for the Skins grew larger.

Even during the bad times, I found myself setting aside time to watch the Skins...no matter what. My friends know not to bother me if/when the Skins are playing.

As a new season ticket holder, I hope to bring this passion to THEHOG.NET tailgate club for each home game.

As with many of you, my soul burns Redskins. I can't really explain why....but it just does.

about 6000 dollars a year in season tickets,hotel and car rental and airfare.Being from Texas and going to all home games is taking a toll on my wallet.Looks like I will sale some of my tickets this year with gas prices going up.They are great seats sec 120 row 1 .They are right behind the vistors bench.Wish I could get rid of the tail gate package which is 42 dollars for food which is way to much but if I dont pay that I will lose my great seats.Dont want to move up one inch but looks like I might have too.I saw tickets on ebay that were up higher for 699 .Makes me think that selling some to cover my travel expenses.Dont want to see a skins hater in my seats that is for sure but at that kind of money it makes you think.

I started following the 'skins at the tail end of the Bill McPeak era. I was 10. In those days, most games were broadcast only on Radio. Two games stand out in my mind in creating a life long love of the skins. One was the great fourth quarter comeback Sonny Jurgensen engineered against the 'pukes in the mid sixties. The other was the 72-41 victory over the Giants, still the highest scoring game in NFL history.

The passion grew each year. The all time greatest was the 1983 Super Bowl (Washington teams never won anything when I was growing up--it was always the other cities. Remember the Senators?). The city went nuts. I was a young professional at the time, but that did not stop me and a couple hundred others from building a bonfire in the middle of the street, stripping to the waist (it was January) and doing war woops around the fire. My wife could not understand this behavior (she was a nonbeliever at the time).

I listened to those early games with my Dad (who at 84, is still a die hard skin fan and one of the few who can say he saw Sammy Baugh play). I watch the games today with my two sons (thank God for DirectTV) hoping they will remember these times just as I did growing up and develop that burning passion that exists in all of us.

What don't the Skins mean to us?? Hear we are a bunch of grown men, mostly, and we spend our days talkign about a team that won't play for over 2 months, yet we are at it everyday. We are talking to each other, reading our thoughts, and sahring our experiences. Why, because we all love the SKINS. That's what it means to me, LOVE...Love of my neighbor, my friends, my enemies, my fiance. Love of my game, my heritage, and my favorite Sunday pasttime. All i know is the 27 years of my life would not be close to the same, nor would i have developed the friends and experiences i had if not for that common bond. THE SKINS..
You have got to love them... Can't wait for Pre-season...In fact already got $10 on the
7 to 1 vegas odds on the SKins winning it all!!!!

Well said ace...... So did it hit you hard when the cards were booted from the NFC East? I mean knowing that the skins wouldn't be coming to town once a year anymore..... that must have stunk

yeah the Cards leaving the division was a tough one to swallow, especially as a transplanted VA native, out here in AZ...
I did get to see the 3-INT game Champ had against Jake and almost got killed in Sun Devil Stadium, but it has been a while...looks like San Fran is as close as they are coming this year...Soon enough we can beat up on the NFC West...

i think youa re misreading what is going on...i was talking about champ picking off jake 3 times in 1 game....and how the skins rarely make it out to the west to play games...yet still a fan....

My family having season ticks since the late 60's. Sticking with them through all the bad seasons. Not missing a home game since I went to my first game at the age of 6. Making sure my job would let me have sundays off. When the Skins lose I do not read the paper or watch Sportscenter for at least 3 days

Me too! My girlfriend used to get pissed whenever the Redskins lost because I'd be like a sail-boat without wind for the next couple of hours on Sunday, and generally in a bad mood for the next day or two.

The worst was when I was at her house for Thanksgiving in 2001, man did that ever require the ol' stiff upper lip.

But it certainly made for a long season this past year, I basically never watched Sportscenter which is usually a staple for me. After week 4, I don't think I ever watched it more than once a week basically.

Better luck this year, though, I'm sure.

it ruins the whole first three days of my week when we lose too. come to think of it, my fall weeks have started off on the wrong foot for the last ten years. and starting 3-1 to blunder the rest of the season really put a hurting on me this past season. but times, they are a changin.

As far as sports are concerned.....everything!

To me, it's always about how they won, back in the day. Not so much flashy nonsense, but tough, gritty grind-'em-out games that made the NFC East the place to be.
I do beleive we'll be back to that style of play very soon, and the newbies in the playoff picture won't be ready for us.
After all, aren't most American students somewhat lacking in "History" ?
