I'll let you say that Champ Bailey is better than Portis as a single player, if you really want to make that assumption right now (others might not go this far). But even if he is--think about what you're paying for.
Apparently we're able to have both Portis and Springs for about as much as it would have cost us (and as much as it is costing you) to have Champ Bailey. That's a very good cornerback and a top 5 running back for your top 5 CB. If we could trade every superstar in Washington that didn't want to play here anymore for another superstar + a great player and do this for the same price, we'd win the Superbowl every year. And your Broncos made it all possible, so I have to take this moment to sincerely give you thanks. . .
Now, I loved Champ, so don't get me wrong--but we're going to have such a better team from that 50 million with these two players as opposed to your one. Besides, Springs actually wants to play in DC. . .
better at cornerback

Oh, and I forgot to mention: A warm welcome to the board Bronco Boi, I hope you stick around and enjoy this awesome site. It'd be great to have your perspective here.

(check your pm, Robskins1). . .but for the record, wouldn't you say that Ray Lewis is better than Troy Hambrick? Or how about Fred Smoot versus some 3rd string FB off another team? Of course it's possible to have a better defensive player than an offensive player and make that judgement call--even between the superstars.

I would not of posted it if he said Ray Lewis is better than Troy Hambrick, but he is talking about 2 people that are one of the best players for the spots that they play. Thats why I said you cant say one is better then the ohter.

Portis is better beacuse of the things he can do and beacuse of his age(22).

LOL - welcome to the board... as for who got the better deal - who cares to make assumptions now? In a few months, we see whether Portis was really a system runner or if Champ was playing badly because he was disgruntled or if he is having problems.
For now, I am trying to keep my eyes on what the Skins are gonna do, if anything, post June 1st about the DL.

Ill take a top 5 running back over a top five corner any day, The RB touches the ball 25-30 times a game. Also a good dline can negate problems in the secondary(carolina panthers), A good oline can only do so much for a Rb if he dosent have the nessarary skills.

a stud WR only gets about 6 catches in a game...
a stud RB get 30 touches a games...
so champ bailey stopping 6 catches isnt worth the money...
i will take shawn springs and portis for champ bailey money...

I've always liked Springs.....until he got injured making so many brutal tackles.....he was much better than Bailey...even on Madden.

You know what ? Here's my take.
You can't say one is better than the other until you consider the Gibbs perspective.
Who wants to be a Redskin ? Who wants to be a "core player" ?
If this is the criteria, then you have to give it up for Portis. Champ was done with us.
He'd rather have the candy-butt WR's in the AFC to deal with.
He was on the money though, wasn't he ? Could he cover T.O. twice a year, maybe three times if we go beyond the regular season ?
Nah. Let Smoot do it. 50/50 is better than 70/30 plus some whining, IMHO.
I will not welcome "Bronco Boi" to our house, for whatever that is worth. Admittedly, not so much.
He didn't wipe his feet before he came in. Left tracks everywhere.
Even Gambit has more respect for us than he does.
Coming from a Denver fan, though, it doesn't matter. We made the "Three Amigos" look like "Three Blind Mice" during the Gibbs era.
That's all I have to say about that.

Yeah, I posted the welcome after only seeing 1 message. . .the next few didn't look so great and it looks like he's gone for good. Lesson learned.
Such is what I get, I suppose, LOL.

I gotta think Portis will have more impact on the skins than Champ had. I'm juiced brother!

Man, I didn't even get to pose an invitation to join us for the Skins-Broncos Super Bowl rematch this year.
I like the Broncos in the AFC, and of course, the Redakins will surprise everyone this year, so anything is possible.
SIDE NOTE: I too will not extend a friendly handshake to someone who just barged in and tried to taint this storied message board.

the three blind mice )lol).
i couldn,t have put it any better myself there tc.
i guess he forgot that joe gibbs is really back with the skins and that was a great superbowl wasn,t it. like others up here i,m not going to compare the two because #1 it,s too early #2 he,s in a new system with yet a proven coach as tc mentioned.#3 core players inwhich joe gibbs puts heavy emphasis on who really wants to be apart of something special.

i dunno........

I don't care what anyone says, Champ Bailey was not a SHUTDOWN corner. The only corner in the last decade I can think of right now whos play merits the name SHUTDOWN corner was Deion Sanders in the 90's with the Cowboys. Champ's damn good, but I saw him get burned also. He didn't do so hot last year either. I would much rather have Portis and Springs than just Champ.

Ask Amani Toomer and Joe Horn how good Champ is and they will tell you. They eat him up

Ah Joe Horn had 2 catches for 10 yards!

I don't know where all this Champ hate is stemming from. Champ is a shutdown corner. Champ may be the best in the league if not close. Don't get all salty because he's not with us anymore.
Portis is a monster and will serve us well. I'd rather have Springs and Portis over jsut Bailey too. Mind you Im being realistic because Champ was my favorite redskin under D. Green.
Ah Joe Horn had 2 catches for 10 yards!
O yea, Joe will got Champ good there,

Joe Gibbs and the FO knew that Champ was not a CORE REDSKIN but just another player only concerned about how much money his wallet could hold. That's why they gave up on him after their first offer. That's why I gave up on him. Besides the fact that he is so, "OVERRATED".

don't forget that twice bailey was flagged for pass interference on mr. horn in the end zone, both leading to saints touchdowns.
