DT Albert Haynesworth

A while ago Jake started a thread about how Titans DT Albert Haynesworth might get cut because of character issues. He's a young talented 23 year old who was a 1st round pick only two years ago. Well this might be another indication he will get cut and HOPEFULLY get signed by us. Here's the link...

Why would u want to sign somebody who gets cut because of charachter issues ??? From day 1 Gibbs has talked about signing people with good heads and good charachter that want to be redskins ... this guy just sounds like a potential cancer

Sorry R4L, I have made a 180 on Haynesworth. I don't want him anymore. His teammates made some harsh statements but have really good points. He is out of shape and doesn't seem to want to be there. With that kind of attitude, I wouldn't want him on my team.

I agree with Jake on this one. This guy has too much baggage and not enough character to be a Gibbs player.

There's a time where you have to put character aside and base a signing on pure talent alone. Albert would be a major upgrade over anyone on our defensive line based on talent alone. I think if he comes cheap, we've got to do it. There isn't much else; and I'm not comfortable with a starting lineup of Daniels, Wynn, Griffin and Upshaw. Just doesn't cut it for me.

Other than being drafted high, he hasn't done anything (based purely on stats alone).

Hugh Douglas on the other hand....

He sounds like another Darrell Russell and the Skin's don't need him.

Gibbs stated in an article not too long ago that he used to talk the Skins into taking troubled players because he thought he could change them - but he now says that he won't be having those conversations about character issue people this time around...

They had disqualifications based on medical and character issues in the draft this year...

Why would they change that system for Haynesworth?

Coach Gibbs has stated on numerous occasions, that he's looking for football smart, good character people, that want to be Redskins. Blue collar type individuals with good work ethics. He does not fit this mold.

As far as going with talent alone... Gibbs has proved time and time again that he can take "no name" people and mold them into fierce competitors. Take a look at the artile at Redskins.com. or click on the link in the Donnie Warren topic.

Wow, that's a little harsh. I don't think Haynesworth is that dumb. At least I hope not. :?

Wasn't Dexter Manley a troubled but talented player???? Look at how GREAT he turned out. Joe Gibbs is the man who takes troubled/talented players and makes them great. We seriously need to give this guy a look. If we gave D.Russell a chance last year after the kinda crap he did, we can certainly afford to give this guy a similar deal. Sure he showed up late and out of shape, etc. etc. But damn this guy has some talent. Our D-Line is horrible and he will upgrade it big time. If he causes problems we can just cut him. We dont have to give him a huge contract...

I bet we would, or whoever signed him, assuming he even gets cut in the first place. Jeff Fisher doesn't cut really talented players without good reason, so he's going to be very suspect (IMO) if he lands on waivers. No question Gibbs can work miracles, just that, those miracles tend to happen more with unheralded over-achiever types than with talented under-achiever types, in the past. In the end, it probably is a face to face, gut decision by Gibbs, so who knows? Regardless, Haynesworth doesn't strike me as the type who would sign anywhere for peanuts.

for a bargain....if he's there, I say we give him a chance....Gibbs can handle any problem child

I just hope Sam Adams is cut as has been rumored. Then we won't even have to worry about Haynesworth. :)

Haynesworth will do much better than Adams as soon as he's straightened out. Joe Gibbs would straighten him out ASAP if we get the chance to sign him...

Until I see Gregg Williams in panic mode, I feel comnfortable with where we are right now. Let's wait and see who comes on the cheap. Williams can spot a Diamond-In-The-Rough like few others. No more big names with baggage. Please. Let those days be gone for good. I'm not looking to assemble an All-Pro roster. Just throw a few hard-working, clean-living types my way. Joe knows he's too old to take on another Manley. Who's got time to babysit, anymore ?

Redskin4Life - read my post - Gibbs admitted to getting problem children before, but has stated that HE WILL NOT be having those converations (i.e., please get him even if he is trouble) this go around.

I am not unhappy with Wynn, Griffin, Daniels and Upshaw... I think Upshaw, coming back from the knee injury showed us flashes when he got playing time and will do better with two tackles that are better than the bench warmers we picked up last year.

Not to mention having Arrington, Barrow, Washington, and Taylor all taking turns blitzing from different directions - gonna make the opponents OLmen have their heads on a swivel and thus less effective.

I agree with you Roanoake, most of our blitzing will come from Taylor and our LB's but DAMN our d-line is horrible. The only talent there is Griffin and he's coming off a mediocre season in NY. I'm sure if we can get this guy cheap Gibbs' and his staff will probably give this guy a look despite what he said.

If we get Haynesworth for the right price I defintely say give him a chance! I have total confidence that Joe and his staff can get him to shape up! He is a very talented and young player I think he is worth the risk. He could be a major impact player for our defense!
