ABC fires Lisa Guerrero from football gig

I thought this was funny!

ABC Sports has dismissed Lisa Guerrero from her job as a sideline reporter on Monday Night Football, a position she held for just one season.

Guerrero, who came to ABC from Fox Sports Network with limited sports broadcasting experience, will be replaced by Michele Tafoya, a lead sideline reporter for ABC and ESPN on its National Basketball Association telecasts, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Guerrero's freshman season for MNF was filled with awkward moments and mistakes, most notably after the regular season opener between the New York Jets and Washington Redskins.

During an interview with Redskins' quarterback Patrick Ramsey, Guerrero said, I saw you talking to Laveranues Coles, your ex-teammate (before the game.) What did he say to you? Ramsey didn't answer Guerrero because he and Coles were current teammates.

When Guerrero did not improve, ABC Sports changed her role to produce pre-packaged stories instead of live news from the game.

Guerrero's contract with ABC extends through the end of the year and MNF producer Fred Gaudelli, who fired Guerrero, said he hopes she stays with the network in some capacity.

I totally remember watching that! And man, I was cracking up. . .I hate the talking heads just as much as the next guy (or even a sports-knowledgeable girl I'd imagine), but you've gotta admit that they give you some great moments of ignorance on the field. As I recall, though, Patrick actually *did* answer her, but basically just kind of praised LC saying things like "Well, he's a great player and it's an honor to be on the same field with him" etc.

Even with the dumb ones that guy is a class act, though I did see a him crack a smile when asked that question.

Yeah I remember a few. She would ask players questions that pissed them off. She did it quite often. Players would be real short with their answers and she would drive the nail even further, making things worse. Most just stared at the beach.

... what do you expect from sideline fluff?

If they really are concerned with what comes out of their mouths, then they should spend some time looking for someone that offers something other than 'good looks' and knows something about football.

I think that MNF will try ANYTHING to get in the news and build up interest again... their market share has just been dropping like a stone.

... maybe they should try taking a football only approach.

Yeah I agree. I perfer some ex-football player with war stories, opposed to some broad that is only there as a pretty face. :oops:

I did think that Madden was a big improvement.

In my mind, big John had become more of a rambler and less of an analyst over the last few years, but I thought that his move to Monday night did a lot for his work. He's not quite back to the analyst of old, but at least the left-field comments were out-weighed by the good analogies.

I agree. I like Madden and Michaels, but the fluff, animations and pop video nonsense have got to go. I liked it when they used to show NFL films highlights of the past weekends games. That was cool and should return. They should also stay away from the igmo sideline reporters and get a pro down there doing halftime and postgame interviews only.

Oh gosh... i hate listening to Madden.... I mean sometimes he's got some really good points.... but sometimes it's like he goes into la la land and starts talking about food or pigeons.... I mean anytime a pigeon lands on the field.... he starts yapping about it.... drawing pictures with his video pen, talkin about what the linemen had for dinner..... it drives me nuts! ](*,)

He does say some dumb stuff, like "It was a good catch because he caught the ball". He's classic though! Just keep Collinsworthless as far away as possible.

Collinsworth doesn't deserve very much credit as a football expert--mostly I see him jumping on bandwagons, and he always makes sure that he gets his 2 cents in. No matter what happened on the last play, you know that his crackly voice will worm its way in there with a full paragraph of fluff analysis. Much like a good message board (:wink:), I'd prefer people to only say things if it's going to contribute. Keep it short if possible (and I'm no example of this unfortunately).

Saying "It was a great catch" might be shorter than "It was a good catch because he caught the ball", but at least you don't sound like an idiot saying it.

If they start it much earlier the people on the west coast will miss the start as they drive home from work. That doesn't bother me any, but it must bother somebody if they haven't done it yet.

They tried an earlier start -- at 8:00, with Chris Berman's 20-minute pre-game show and an 8:20 kickoff.

That lasted all of one season. Great for us East Coasters though.
