Is he a bench warmer or what? Truthfully, he became my favorite player after last year. It got to the point you could barely recognize the guy standing up, but get up he did, each time with a horrid grimace that must've made his wife cry.

After a while the O-line stopped even helping him get up. They were probably too embarrased to by mid-game.

Ramsey's real gladiator. I'd hate to see him relegated to back up, but my guess is that's where he's headed baring injuries.

Personally, I see P-Ram being given an open opportunity to win the spot.

The problem is that Brunell is a daggone good QB, the 9th best ever in the leagues history.

With Gibbs' playbook, it won't be the same situation as with SoS' - both QB's will pick it up well and with Brunell's experience - well - I see P-Ram being on the bench. The only thing he has over Brunell is arm strength, but part of the problem last year as I saw it was that he had Rypien-itis. Ryp could chuck the ball downfield, but didn't realize that you needed touch for a 5 yard toss. I think Brunell might be a good thing for P-Ram in the long run, and if he can swallow his pride and learn from Brunell rather than pouting, we'll be a better team in the future for it.

It's too early to say who will start - I see both playing durig the season - dings and bruises.

Ramsey needs to look and learn, the new offense will help them both out, but PRAM is the inexperienced one here. His time will come and most probably sometime this season.

Should be a fun camp watching the QBs, can't wait.

I hope Ramsey has it in him to swallow the pride though. Thats a tough thing to do after staying in there while basically getting leveled by a MAC truck every few plays. I can see how he thinks he's paid his dues.

But I agree, while they say its an open competition, Gibb's track record says otherwise - he will go with the sure thing.

No - I believe that Gibbs means what he says. I wouldn't be complacent were I Brunell. If he sucks at camp, look for P-Ram to start

It will be an open competition and you've gotta believe Gibbs. If Ramsey gets his foot healed he will be good to go and will give Brunell a run for his money.

Remember, Brunell lost his job last season to Leftwich and even David Gerrard...Brunell ended up 3rd string....so Ramsey has a chance.
It is ALL up to him. Plus, Ramsey has the raport with Coles, Gardner, McCants, and the O-Line.

PS - 30 Minutes from Redskin Park? Yeah...during rush hour! I grew up in Centreville and it is 15 minutes down 28 from Redskins Park. (for those that don't know, the country renamed a section of Route 28 for Darrell Green).

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure its an open competition - I just think Gibbs is more likely to see the experience guy winning it.

Strange...I guess people drive at different speeds.
Its funny, when I talk to people about driving times it varries from 15, 20, 30 mins...but one things that is always the same is the distance! cant argue that!

Anyway, about the Skins..I do not like it how EVERYONE says it is a OPEN QB competition tongue in cheek. You always hear that in reports but everyone always refers to Brunell as the starter. It is driving me crazy and I am sure it is pissing Ramsey off. Not to mention that Mark Brunell will be representing the Redskins at the annual NFL QB Challege this off season.

If P-Ram isn't the starter He should be right there soaking knowledge from one of the best teacher ever. He can watch Brunell execute and the defensive respone this could make up for the last 2 years. So when his number is called he'll definate be ready to go

If he is the starter he just be glad he be able to see the end of plays on his feet

I have to put my 2 cents in:

1) Brunell did not "lose" his job to Leftwich and certainly not to Garrard. Brunell had a huge salary hit coming that the Jags could not afford, and when Leftwich became available in the draft the Jags jumped on it. Brunell was the starter when he damaged the bursa in his elbow. The injury took a while to heal and by that time the Jags were in last place. The Jags FO knew Leftwich was the future and decided to stay with Leftwich (there also was some bad blood between Brunell and the owner). There was no "open" competition when Brunell was healthy again.

2) I keep hearing how Ramsey has more arm strength than Brunell. If so it can't be by much. I think you will be quite impressed when you see Brunell throw a 20 yard out. When Jimmy Smith was a downfield threat, the 20 yard out was un-stoppable between those two. I can't wait to see how Brunell and Coles work together.

Ramsey is gonna watch Brunell for a while and be ready to come in if/when Brunell gets "dinged." Not a bad back-up at all in my opinion.

We're glad Brunell is here I'm just saying whoever is the starter the Redskins are in good hands

As far as the Jags go Leftwich would have learned from playing behind Brunell for a year look at the improvement Garrard made after first year behind Brunell

I personally think Ramsey is going to start. I think Brunell is washed up. He is their as a secruity blanket just in case Ramsey gets hurt and nothing else.

Brunell will teach Ramsey a few things over the course of the year. Im sure Gibbs will be teaching along the way as well. If Brunell and Ramsey can have a good bond and understand each other this year. I think next year when Ramsey takes over that he will have the understanding and the knowledge of what to expect. Not to sabby having Brunell there with you either.

It would be pretty interesting to see how Brunell reacts if he isn't named the starter!

I really like both of these players personally. I can't wait to see our offense at work this season. If the o-line is clicking, don't you think we could have one of the best offenses in the league?

Let's face it, Brunell will have to really stink it up to lose the starting job to Ramsey. I don't see that happening. I'm sure Gibbs is sincere when he says the competition is open, but it's really Brunell's job to lose. Having watched him for a few years in Jacksonville, I have to agree that he's got more than adequate arm strength. He and Jimmy Smith had a connection that you rarely see. Coles' attributes are very similar to Smith's (when he was in his prime). If Brunell hooks up with Coles the way he used to with Smith, it will be exciting to watch. That being said, I have always admired Ramsey, and I think he's got what it takes to be a starter. If, by chance, he wins the job over Brunell, we'll certainly be in good shape.

competition always brings out the best in people. Gibbs assured Ramsey that there would be an open competition to win the starting job in training camp. Its only going to help Ramsey in the long run, to be playing with a proven veteran.

Whatever pans out, 2 solid QB's are priceless. Injuries happen often at the QB position over the course of a season.

amen - who would you rather have as a backup? I mean - for real... I love P-Ram, but I would rather have him as a backup for Brunell or vice versa than some no namer who doesn't do anything when he hits the field

When we got a young Joe Thiesman, we had both Sonny Jurgensen and Billy Kilmer. Even though Joe was never one to defer to others, I believe the couple of years behind these two did wonders for his career. I hope that the same thing happens for Ramsey and that he becomes a 10 year starter for us. We haven't had a long term quarterback solution since Thiesman.

Oh, and P-Ram, don't volunteer to return punts!

The biggest advantage Brunell has is that he has been playing on a team for almost a decade that used an offense very similar to that Gibbs uses.

He has a BIG head start over P-Ram. Patrick will get some time this year and barring injury the ship may be all his by next year.

P-Ram is a darn smart cookie though - I bet compared to last year he is going to look far better put together...

It will be nice for him to have a gameplan actually figured out before he gets to the line of scrimmage...
