Who will have the bigger impact this season?

Taylor or Cooley?

Believe it or not I think it's a close call...

Yes, Taylor is an awesome player and will be a superstar in the NFL very soon. However, Cooley has a chance to make a huge impact this season. The kicker is if he can learn the H-back position and solidify himself as the starter by the reg season. I think Cooley has an excellent chance of doing just that.

Gibbs has really been gushing over this guy and really thinks highly of him. However, what sets him apart from players like Winslow Jr is his smarts. He scored a 32 on the Wonderlic which is very good. I think that's what Gibbs really likes about him.

Since the H-back position is a difficult and critical position in Gibbs' offense your going to need a player who is both talented and very intelligent for that position. Cooley is both of those and fits the position to a tee!

I'm really excited to see how well his guy is going to do in Gibbs' offense this season. It should be fun to watch...

I beleive that Taylor will have the most impact this year. Now don't get me wrong, I think Cooley will thrive under the Gibbs system but Taylor will create havic for offensives.

There not even in the same league. Cooley probaly wont even start this year because of gibbs preference to play veterans and bring along young players slow with the exception of someone as gifted as taylor. taylor is ready to make an immediate impact next year and I cant wait to watch him play

I'd love to see Cooley fit that Don Warren role. Warren was nobody's superstar, but because he did his job perfectly, he didn't need to be. And yet he was hugely important to the Skins success. He didn't mind being unsung, but among Skins fans he was well appreciated. I thought Bryan Johnson would be that guy, but maybe it'll be Cooley.

I admit to not seeing him play in college, but if he has great hands, blocks well and he's smart, Gibbs will love him.

If Taylor isn't making a SIGNIFICANTLY larger impact then I think we made the wrong pick. I'm guessing Taylor will be in the running for rookie of the year.

Taylor will make a bigger impact just because He'll probably be starting from the begining. Cooley may not start at first but He will get playing time and I bet will be starting by seasons end.
Johnny Punani Your right about Cooley being smart I betcha all the players drafted by the skin's are smart.
ChilePalmer Cooley will be more of a Clint Didier than a Don Warren but that's ok with me both Didier and Warren were class and I think Cooley will be also.

If Cooley were to play as frequently as Sean Taylor, than I would say that you are correct Punani. However, since Taylor will likely start along side Matty Bowen from day one on, I don't think there will even be a close competition as to who makes the bigger impact.

Cooley could be making contributions as the season progresses but Taylor has the potential to be in the top five on the team in tackles and picks.

Normally I would say Cooley would be coming along slowly...

But who plays the H in his stead? Joe Gibbs is on a two year plan here, and he LOVES Cooley, he gave up a 2nd rounder for him for crying out loud!

I believe Cooley starts early, I mean he's a better H than Mike Sellers right?

Stranger things have happened, but I see Taylor making an immediate impact and Cooley as a longer range project.

I hope I am right about Sean (Rich) and he lights it up.

I hope you are both right and they both light it up :)

Heck - I think it'll be great to see Cooley swing out in front of Portis on a counter trey and see him level Williams as he thinks he is gonna come up and tackle CP...

Yeah, or Portis on some play action where Cooley swings out on a route unguarded and Ramsey hits him for the 1st... :)

Now I love Taylor, but Doc Walker of WTEM mentioned that for the 6 Hurricanes drafted in the 1st round, the highest Wonderlic was a 12...

I hope Cooley makes the larger impact because Taylor will make a huge impact

I cannot believe that you guys think that Cooley will even be close to the same level as Taylor next year. Now if you were asking if Taylor or Winslow was going to make more of an impact that would be a deifferent story. But Taylor and Cooley are in completely different leagues all together. Taylor can and should control the middle of the field, make big hits, return interceptions, force fumbles, and even block punts. He is a big play machine. Cooley has fantastic skills and will be an integral part of our offence but in no way will he be on the same level. You're talking about a guy who is projected to be a pro-bowler in a year or two compared to a role-player. No doubt, if Cooley pans out (and he should unless he is too slow for the NFL) he will be a very good player and a fan favorite. If Taylor does half of what many think he'll do he'll be a pro-bowler and if he pans out may be the best of all time at his position. I love Cooley but not only is he not on the same level as Taylor, he is at least two or three rungs below. Especially when talking about next season Taylor will have far more of an impact. Cooley is very smart but it will take him some time to get used to the speed and athleticism in the NFL. Taylor is ready physically and he has all the skills. He can dominate next year while at the most Cooley can contribute nicely. No two ways about it, Taylor will have a much bigger impact next year than Cooley barring tragedy. This is almost like saying "Who will make a bigger impact next year, Cooley or Lavar Arrington?"

We know Taylor will have a BIG year and are hoping Cooley will surprise us all .....if he does we will never here the Taylor/Winslow question again it's already old

it's a long season. but we can expect both will contribute from day one. and let's say that both rooks have game from day one -

taylor will be in the position to be the more visible contributer simply by being a central figure - by position - on the defense.

cooley will contribute an equal amount in the traditional, unheralded way of the h-back. his main gig will be lead blocking for portis and outlet passes when the wideouts are covered - valuable but not splashy.

think ronnie lott vs. donnie warren. we know warren. the world knows lott.

for the success of the team - taylor must be the bigger contributer. we've got tons of weapons on offense. cooley can role play. but on defense, taylor is going to have to be a major contributer, ala portis or coles on the offensive side of the ball, for the skins to succeed. imo of course.

If Taylor can = Lott & Cooley = Warren

You'd HAVE TO give the draft an A++

again This is hopful thinking with Cooley but we hit a homerun with Taylor \:D/

Don Warren didn't "light it up." Neither did Clint Didier except for on a few occaisions each season. I'm with hkHog on this one - I think Cooley will turn into a nice role player who every now and then gets us a nice first down, but consistently contributes.
