The Redskins locked up a key member of their defensive line for several more seasons Thursday by agreeing to a three-year contract extension with Matt Ioannidis.
The deal will pay Ioannidis $21.75 million and includes $3 million in incentives, according to a person with knowledge of the agreement who spoke on the condition of anonymity. NFL.com first reported the deal.
Signing Ioannidis, 25, to an extension was an offseason priority for the Redskins, who risked losing him to free agency after this year. A fifth-round pick in 2016, he blossomed the past two seasons under defensive line coach Jim Tomsula with 65 total tackles and 12 sacks. Last year, he took a huge step forward with 7.5 sacks and six tackles for loss. He also recorded 11 quarterback hits.

Man, I was SO happy to read this yesterday. This is exactly the kind of signing that we haven't been doing enough of. I've felt for a while that the team has been doing a better job of drafting guys. But if you're not signing them to their next contract, you're not really "building through the draft". Still have a lot of work to do on this, and I think we're hindered by guys not feeling strongly about wanting to stay here, but this was a good start.
The interesting part of Ioannidis' signing is that he probably could have done pretty well in free agency last year, and probably better than the deal he got yesterday.

Im already pumped about the D... Collins and Foster will be huge.. Now if Norman can play at the level he has shown glimpses and we can get a young db or 2 to step up opposite Collins and in the slot.. If Dunny is healed and back to form... Less what ifs then the other side if the ball
