Who will back up Johnson?

WTOP says the Redskins will sign Josh Johnson as backup QB.
WASHINGTON — Just two weeks after the team turned to Mark Sanchez as their backup quarterback, the Washington Redskins signed Josh Johnson Tuesday to back up Sanchez, who is now the starter, according to multiple sources.
Johnson, 32, has not thrown a pass in an NFL game since 2011, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is 0-5 lifetime in the NFL as a starter with five career touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He’s spent time with eight other NFL clubs and was recently selected as the top pick in the new Alliance of American Football League.
John Keim says the Redskins want Johnson because of:
Experience with Gruden in Tampa in 2008 and Cincinnati in 2013.

Gruden explains why the Redskins passed over Colin Kaepernick:
Gruden, who said that the decision to not bring Kaepernick in for a workout was made for football reasons only, said Kaepernick had been “discussed, for sure,” but that his skill-set didn’t match what they needed in a quarterback being picked up five days before the team’s next game.
“It’s just going to be a matter of which way do we want to go?” Gruden said. “Do we want to go with a guy that’s familiar with my terminology who we worked out last week . . . or go with a guy and teach, basically, a whole new kind of offense with new offensive linemen with a lot of the zone reads and all that stuff. Not a lot of time to really get a brand new quarterback, a new system installed and taught in a couple days of practice.”

I wish the Skins would just be honest for once. Just say we'd love to bring him in, but he has an active lawsuit against the NFL and if we brought him here to D.C. (in particular) the national news media would be a nightmare to manage...you could kiss whatever slim chance there is to salvage the season goodbye!!

Personality piece on Sanchez. A bit of content, such as description of Sanchez's familiarity with coaches. Some of the Redskin plays are similar to ones that Sanchez ran with the Jets. Matt Cavanaugh explains that names are different but concepts the same.

I wonder what the play is named- aside from the obvious "butt fumble"... Maybe qb draw Omaha A$$?

we don't need much from Sanchez - we just need everyone to do their jobs and to play with emotion just like the stupid giants did last week
we can win this game ... it would be a devastating loss

Sounds like Sanchez was trying to save a broken play:
Then on Thanksgiving 2012, in a game against the Patriots, he turned the wrong way while trying to hand the ball to a running back, whipping back around to run forward and salvage the play. In doing so, he bumped himself and the ball against the backside of his guard, Brandon Moore. The collision jarred the ball from his hands, knocking it to the ground. New England’s Steve Gregory snatched it up and ran the other way for a touchdown.
But it also sounds like Sanchez broke that play: "he turned the wrong way while trying to hand the ball to a running back". Two bungles on the same play.

It's a bad situation at a key position but this is still a team game - the injuries are certainly a reason for some of the issues we're seeing but the failure to compete competitively in so many different ways is the main reason for what is happening - earlier this season this defense was ranked #1 ... the last 4 games they have averaged 430 yards and 30 points
what are the excuses for the drop off in the level of play all across the board - the FO is not being honest about what is happening - nothing new here
I know that the FO is not responsible for missing tackles, fumbling the ball or dropping catchable balls
HOWEVER
the FO is responsible for who is game planning, preparing and coaching

Id argue against our D coordinator... But the picks and lack of production on the other side of the ball certainly doesn't help.... At all

True but there's also no QBs anyone is raving about in the upcoming draft. Kaepernick is only 31 and he's built to take more punishment than Smith, McCoy, or Sanchez. I'd keep him as a backup over anyone on the roster right now even if they signed or drafted a starter.

Turns out Kap is comparable to Smith in many regards including ball security, seeing the field, arm strength, accuracy, mobility, completion %, TD/INT ratio, etc.
He is far superior to any uninjured QB on our roster.
As for the anthem issue ...
When they start playing it right before I start working I'll let you know if they let me kneel or not. In the meantime nobody seems to mind me wearing this at work as I "protest" violence while I'm "on the job."

it's a shame they didn't try him out earlier - same old Redskins ... woulda, coulda, shoulda
IMO, CK was trying to make a point about social injustice - I believe he respects the flag and the anthem and the men and women of the armed services
