Who might be backup QB?

Post reports that Adan Schefter says:
Redskins are bringing in a group of QBs to work out on Monday, including EJ Manuel, TJ Yates and Mark Sanchez, per sources.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2 ... 3c9dbb88ca
Mike Florio explains why Colin Kaepernick will not be tried:
As Washington scrambles to beef up a quarterback depth chart that will be headlined by Colt McCoy for as long as he’s healthy enough to play, many are wondering whether Washington will consider Colin Kaepernick.
They won’t be.
Per a league source, Kaepernick hasn’t received an invitation to the Gong Show tryout that reportedly will happen on Monday, with EJ Manuel, T.J. Yates, and Mark Sanchez among the candidates identified by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Another source tells PFT that team president Bruce Allen previously has made clear within the organization his position that Kaepernick won’t be signed by Washington, ever. Allen is a political conservative, which would make Kaepernick and his habit of protesting during the national anthem something that Allen wouldn’t be inclined to embrace, ever.
So even though Washington quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell served on the last coaching staff in San Francisco that had Kaepernick on the roster, Kaepernick won’t be on the Washington roster, barring a dramatic change of heart by Allen — or a direct order from owner Daniel Snyder that having someone who possibly could help push a 6-4 start toward a finish atop the division outweighs all non-football considerations.

I mean, let's be real about it. Snyder was a big Trump $$ supporter, and Bruce Allen is the brother of our former VA GOP Governor. There's zero percent chance that those guys are going to bring in Kaepernick.
Politics aside, I think the problem with Kaep now is that he hasn't played in so long. Just not sure he's still the "best" available no matter what previous connections he had with coaches or whatever.
I guess of the three mentioned I'd probably take Manuel, Sanchez, Yates in that order. What's the story with Sam Bradford btw?
Also, given the potential cap mess the team is facing with Alex Smith, maybe they should be scooping up Paxton Lynch and crossing their fingers they can turn 1st round pick around?

Allowing things like politics to prevent you from hiring the best available person for the job is why this franchise is a perpetual *f$ck*. I agree, Kaepernick may not be the best available person for the job at this point but Bruce Allen's ego has always been a problem. See: Shanahan, Mike. McCloughan, Scot. Having said that I'd give Lynch a shot because he's got the best chance of being with the team long-term. He's young and talented and Denver has an Elway problem, which means they don't know *sh$t* about how to draft and develop quarterbacks.

Completely agree. Just saying, even PFT pointed out Bruce Allen said he would never bring in Kaepernick, and its pretty clear why. To be fair, its not just Allen/Snyder. As soon as Kaep's name came up yesterday, people were ranting about his politics and kneeling and all of that nonsense.

Yeah my thinking too. If Colt goes down, Mark Sanchez isn't going to save the season at that point. They worked Lynch out in September though, so maybe he just wasn't impressive?

EJ Manuel and Mark Sanchez worked out well for the Redskins this morning. No word on a backup quarterback yet but Sanchez quickly left the locker room with team employees while the other prospects remained behind.

Snyder + Allen = mediocrity
The unpleasant truth is, as long as Snyder owns this team, it will be right where it has been for 20 years. Period.

The problem is that this is self perpetuating at this point. No one knows if he IS NOT the best person at this point, because the powers that be are letting their feelings and leanings regarding NON-FOOTBALL issues interfere too much with the decision. It is absurd that he isn't being brought in for a tryout, at least, just to, you know, see how good he is or isn't. He isn't trying out for PR director.

First off - Adrian Peterson was not thought to have anything left in the tank and look at what he's done - we need to get rid of Bruce Allen
AND
I don't agree with "saving the season" - this franchise was not looked at as having even a small chance at making the playoffs; yet here we are at 6-4 after going 5-3 over the first half - IMO, we have a very good chance at making the playoffs - this team has had some adversity & better teams handle that - we're not one of the better teams but we don't have to be - we just need to be the same as what got us to 5-3 - we just need a little luck - GO SKINS
I'm sure the pukes are very confident about this game this week - they are most likely loving that the opening line has them favored by 9 - even better news is that Jason Garrett is now looked at as possibly getting an extension - hallelujah ....

The O line needs to do a better job protecting Colt - Coach Callahan is one of the best
I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving

Mark Sanchez isn’t done in the NFL just yet.
Sanchez is signing with Washington a day after quarterback Alex Smith suffered a season-ending injury, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Post has also heard that it is Sanchez:

So be it.
Draft in 2019, I hope:
- QB
- WR (hire that guy who drafted Art Monk, Charlie Brown, and Gary Clark, and then found Rickie Sanders.)
- OL
- DL

There are factors beyond politics. This is not just a "non-football" decision. Kaepernick is likely locker room poison. The dwindling fan base cannot afford more losses due to the decision to bring in a "citizen" who wears his politics on his knee (then complains that team management has the same rights, and acts on them). For me, Kaepernick will never be a player on a team that I am a fan of. Snyder cannot afford more fans moving allegiance to Baltimore or Carolina.

There's a silver lining here.
Colt actually beat the Cowboys at Dallas some years ago in MNF (2014).
Other than that, and it should painfully obvious, the no.1 priority should be getting a top QB in next year's draft.
Every victory that comes after Alex's injury is a bonus. It was a good run, though.
