Potential landing spots for ex-Cowboys WR Dez Bryant
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... dez-bryant
I must say my distain for the Cowpukes is always at the highest point of hatred (not real hatred thou).
But, there is a small part of me, that would like to see Dez stick it to the Cowpukes twice a year.
Im crazy right???

Sign him. Even if he's "in decline", Bryant is better than any of the Redskin WR's.

It's not going to happen. He's a declining $8MM+ a year receiver who can't run basic routes. Dallas paid $8MM against the cap in signing bonus to cut him and they didn't even bother designating it post-June 1st. They wanted him gone. It's not like they're overloaded with talent in Dallas. If he had any value to them they would have kept him. Or at least offered him a paycut. They have a cap problem so taking on an additional $8MM in dead cap to release Dez, leaving them with under $2MM in cap space after draft compensation, barely enough to sign one player in an emergency, tells you they wanted him off the field and out of the locker room.
But some of you want him, because stats.

I want Dez Bryant because Doctson is terrible and Richardson is nothing special. Jordan Reed does not count because he is always hurt. Bryant is an ace. At 6-2 220 pounds, yes, he is big and better than any Redskin WR since Art Monk.
Cap? Redskins have $17.8 million in cap space. Dump Doctson. Trade Reed for a draft pick, if anyone wants him.

NO! He brings too much sideline turmoil and drama and our 'support' staff couldn't handle it.
Spend that much more on killer RB and you won't need WR in 'declining' years.

adding good/great players at any time is a good thing
however, as Fred indicated - there's no reason to hope things will get better with these 2 bozos making decisions

No? Why no?
Don't you guys want talent? Regardless if he hasn't been as good as his first 2 or 3 years is completely irrelevant when we have ZERO talent to begin with.
WRs- garbage. Even the new guy from Seattle ONLY made plays when Wilson was scrambling and did what he always does which is toss it up to a guy who is open or someone who is flying down the field.
Dez will draw the defense #1 CB, thus giving our bum WRs and broken-up TE a chance to make a play. So tell me how is that a bad thing?
Everyone who says no is saying he's bad on the sideline and this and that. There was a cowboy beat reporter on the Czaben show (yesterday) and he said Dez's problem has always been with coaches and most of the time it was because Dak would look at him for a second and move on immediately, not giving him a chance to break away from the defense and make a play. Notice when Romo was back there he made sure and waited for Dez to make his move. Something I'm absolutely sure Alex Smith as a veteran QB would do also. The reporter also said his teammates absolutely LOVED him in the locker room and on the field especially considering he ALWAYS practiced hard and in a game he would give his all. Did he have dropped passes, absolutely, but tell me who we have at this moment on our team who doesn't.
But hey, we ARE Redskins fans so I guess plenty of us have assimilated to accepting trash teams and be ok with it.. ******* garbage.

If this was to happen, I'd most likely take a year off from watching football.
Dez, OBJ, Shepard, Engram, and if they draft Barkley??????

So you want the team to financially handicap itself by spending $8MM+ a year for a 29 year old WR who is not going to take a one year contract unless he's out of options. Let's say they do. How many more wins is Dez good for considering they'd no money to sign Hankins or anyone else after that. Enough to compete? Not even close. It would be a waste of money for nothing. So, maybe you win one or two more games and you still suck and you still miss the playoffs so what was the point? Alex Smith isn't going to carry this team without a running game or a running defense, regardless of his receivers. If a #1 WR was all the team was missing I'd say they should do it. This team needs everything. It has literally not one position where it couldn't use more talent.

The Redskins have $17.8 million in cap space. If $8 miilion for Dez Bryant will cripple them, then why
- spend $70 million guaranteed for Alex Smith?
- spend ?? $million for Josh Norman, who does not carry the defense?
- spend ?? $million for Jordan Reed, who plays how many games per season?
What is the strategy of the Redskin' GM? Is the team one draft away from competing for the NFC East? If the Skins use a top draft pick to get a WR as good as Charlie Taylor or Art Monk, how do they fix the DL, LB's, CB's, RB's, and find depth for the OL? And who plays TE?

They don't really have $17.8MM in cap space. You have to subtract about $5MM for draft signings and another $2MM for emergency / injury signings. And Dez won't take a one year deal unless that's all he is offered by any team. The Skins have a ton of needs and they could fill two or three of them with the $8MM+ a year Dez will likely be getting. Norman was supposed to be a "shut down" corner not that he ever was one but he's certainly better than the alternatives. Reed is a game changer even if he only plays half of the games. I understand signing elite level players who are supposed to drastically impact your team. I don't understand signing declining players who are known to not get along with coaching staffs. I don't see a parallel between the two.
Ultimately it always comes down to needing a GM who is a personnel person, not one who is a numbers cruncher. This team is nowhere close to one draft away from being competitive.

...and they will need some of that cap possibly to extend some of their younger guys with expiring contracts, e.g., Sherff, Preston Smith, Crowder.
I do find it interesting that many of the posters here don't feel the skins are a good or competitive team, or a team close to competing.
I think about last year where we had more lost games by players than any team, played one of the hardest NFL schedules, and still won 7 games (let Saints game get away for .500). We played most of the year with no starting running back, our best DL was hurt and missed 2/3 of there season, 2nd best was out 4-5 games with a broken hand, Reed played 1/2 the season, we were playing ILBs that weren't on the team to start the year, we had just one of our 4 starting DBs for a few games, hell, our kicker was hurt-- AND...the OL?? what a disaster that was with injuries. We had so many injuries there I can't remember all of them! I understand all teams have injuries but we were absolutely decimated, and in positions that most teams can't withstand, like OL.
AND I do not blame the FO for this!!

If our team has considerable more player injuries than league norms then the FO is precisely who
is responsible! It is both the FO and conditioning program, not the individual trainors but the program approved by the FO.

Is OJ short for skinsjock??
SO, it's Bruce and Danny's fault that we had a lot of injuries? Interesting.
How about, bad luck?
Clearly, you can blame anything on the FO? QB throws an int to lose game -- it's the fault of the FO as they hired the qb coach, they hired the OC for a bad scheme, they hired the head coach for letting them do that and of course, they signed the qb - versus, the QB threw a *sh$t* pass??

Dez was a star but I don't know what he has got left and if he would really fit Jay's offense or mesh well with Smith. I think it is vital to help Alex Smith get off to a good start in DC and if Dez would help that I am for signing him. The Skins ought to be guided now by the #1 objective of making the Smith trade work in 2018. A well functioning offense should take precedence over improving the defense so whatever will help Alex Smith should be pursued.

Actually, he's got a point. The number of injuries in the last 5-6 seasons is ridiculous.
Someone's not doing his/her job correctly at the personnel level.
There's a least one report in the WP about this subject.
Would be nice to have hard numbers, though, comparing teams.

Actually, I'm ambivilant about blaming the FO esp Snyder, I feel they unfairly blamed - except for this spate of injuries we repeatedly experienced. Since it was occuring in all positions you have to think it is a systemic problem. And that is HC/FO territory. I'll blame Gruden for lots of things but I think is was just overseeing the plan approved by the FO.
Bad luck is what other teams have, it is not an excuse.
