Good player and this looks like it would be a good signing. I've heard that he'll have no impact though, because Dan Snyder exists.

Brown got a break to showcase his talents when Reggie Ragland ended up on IR last season, and he made the Pro Bowl as a result. Most people know I think little of the Pro Bowl but that's still impressive. Brown finished 2nd in the league in tackles which means he can do something the Redskins defense is really bad at for the most part. Maybe another London Fletcher? [-o<

I think the question we all want answered is: how many jerseys can Zach Brown sell?

Finally got another run killing, sideline to sideline replacement for London Fletcher from our LB farm team in Buffalo... Run D just got a lot better.

Now, where is that immovable, space-eating, double-team-demanding, NT that I have been wanting for the past 5 years????

Excellent, another good player signed.

We may not have room in the salary cap to sign a NT from free agency.
However we have added a good safety and LB. Not a bad off season in terms of adding pieces to the team.

Somebody at SkinsPark is making good decisions, if SM were still here we'd all be praising him.

This was a good move, especially considering the contract: $4.6 m for one year. Signing Pryor to the contract we did was also a very good move.

Swearinger was a more risky signing, but I'm optimistic he can play.

The other FA acquisitions though? Meh. We gave $20+ million to a few JAGs on the defensive line. It kind of looks like another Paea / Reyes situation.

I get what you're saying, but I'd say the DL moves are kind of a push. We probably haven't upgraded the DL so far but replaced a couple JAGs with some other JAGs. Maybe we lost a bit with Baker, maybe not.

Learning a bit more on Brown this morning. The take on him seems to be really talented athlete with exceptional speed who needs to be a smarter player. So not a sure thing but good potential.

So far looks like modest improvement on the defensive personnel. Maybe the draft will change that perception.

ALL RIGHT - I'm kind of getting excited about the defense and looking forward to the draft

do you think Dan will trade down and add more draft picks OR maybe trade up to the second pick in the draft again?

Appears to be a decent signing. 27 and a producer. The only thing is I wish the contract were for longer...... The 1 year thing may have been on his end in that he wants a major deal after multiple years of production.

I was thinking about that too, man. Same thing with Pryor. Would suck to find these guys are legit and they're on one year contracts.

I guess the plus side though is that the team could look to extend them during the year in that case. Yeah?

I forgot about Baker, that is a big loss and I'd say have lost more than we've added.

I like Baker... but he is a streaky player, who cannot anchor and draw double teams on a consistent basis, to keep the inside backer clean. I'm not convinced he is a big loss... but I can also understand why you would think so. He was steadfast, and a solid team mate, clearly loving the game. I simply don't think he was a difference maker.

What I wouldn't give for one more year of Dave Butz in his prime. Then, you would understand.

I agree with you about Baker - a good solid defensive lineman
Having a guy with the desire to play hard, like Butz had, in the middle of your defense makes a world of difference to a DC

be nice to have guys in charge that would make that happen here

I am also little concerned about the one year contracts.
With Kirk improving in the middle of his prime. Pryor is likely the no.1 option for Kirk. Reed will probably play 7 to 10 games. So I expect Pryor to have a huge season. Meaning come off-season he will probably demand top dollar. Very expensive for top WR. Maybe extend him during the year.

Brown will likely be the leader in tackles on this team. Which means he will also command a decent contract. ILB don't get as much as OLB/DE or WR. So it might be wise to try and get a LTD.

Next year's off season is a critical time. Let's say both Pryor and Brown exceed expectations? We don't want to be negotiating Kirk, Pryor and Browns contract. We've got to lock in some Ltds. If not now then maybe after the draft.

Funny thing is, Butz was huge for the 1970's and 1980's but average size for a defensive end by today's standards. 6'7" and 305lbs.

The thing about Butz is that he was the immovable object. If he didn't want to move you weren't moving him.

It also didn't hurt to have Daryl Grant playing next to him. He was no slouch either.

I think Kerrigan and swoogie had a good thing going last year, they would have taken it to another level this year.
What I wouldn't give for one of Dave Butz's ducks and I do understand.

Good signing. Interesting to see how he can do without Marcel Dareus and Kyle Williams in front of him.
