Davis 3 year -- $15M deal

We haven't had a real GM for less than a week and we've already OVERPAID for an aging free agent. Meddling Danny boy is back....

$15M over 3 years for Vernon Davis is a joke. The dude is like 40. I don't know the terms, but I'd only be okay with the deal if it was structured like this:
Signing bonus: $1.5M
Y1 Guaranteed: $1.5M
The rest not guaranteed.

With the depth at TE in the draft, we could have found value equal to Davis in round 5 --- and paid a fraction of a fraction of the price. Our idiot FO structure sh!t the bed. I am sure there is much more to come in the coming months.

We are well on our way back to consistent 5-11 seasons.

Did we watch the same games last season? Davis is much more valuable than you give him credit for being.

He was fine, but we are paying him nearly what he earned in his prime (absent more information, just based on the terms). It's too much for a TE2 in his mid-30s that has some post-30 injury history. Especially when there is value in the draft at a fraction of the cost.

The contract could be structured well, so we'll see --- but if it's like $6M sign and $3/yr. that's no good. Creates a rough cap hit if we cut him next year.

Jordan is breakaway glass and it needed to be done.
Simple as that brother Mark.

Davis made a few good plays and one really bad play in the end zone (against Dallas?) with ball in hands. We didn't need him next year.

So now that we have Crowder by himself.. who do you see stepping up WHEN Jordan gets hurt?

I admit $15m seemed kind of high when I started reading your post, but these details look a lot better. If he's not bringing value, looks like they can move on fairly easily after this year.

J-Reed is a beast, but not likely he's going to play 16 games any given season. A backup like Davis is essential.

Clarification --- those are NOT the terms

Those are the terms I proposed as being ok.

I can understand the confusion, so I updated by underlining for emphasis.

You think maybe Scott would have been talking to Cook from Greenbay or stepping up to the guy from the Pats?

Duh sorry about that. I think your post was pretty clear, just reading too fast.
