Panther Post-game - Bear Pre-game

I was there and we seemed tight/flat - especially early. Carolina didn't really seem up either until we kept dropping passes and going 3-and-out.

Even after the beginning-of-the-2nd-half gift we were a Davis catch away from getting to within 5 and trying to make it 3 with a 2 pointer with almost 5 minutes to go.

Very disappointing effort when in control of our destiny.

I also felt like Jay and staff were trying to please/prove something instead of just calling plays that work - and the drops were the worst - a true sign that we weren't there mentally.

Football is a game of emotion. Want-to can make up for a lot. We displayed very little want-to.

I agree. On primetime McVay always seem to want to pass a million times...hes looking for a job and politics with this team sometime get in the way of winning.

Receivers dropped passes but so did Carolina. Difference is the two turnovers by Cousins compared to none by Newton.

No balance. 47 passes to 11 runs (from the RBs). Gotta get more than 18 yards outta the backs.

let's not kid ourselves - this was a horrible game - there was absolutely no effort from anyone on that field ... ZERO

this was embarrassing

heads will roll if we see the same lack of effort from both players and coaches this weekend

It was ugly. Carolina seemed to overpower the Redskins. Ugly. Russ Grimm for head coach. Todd Bowles -- if Jets dump him -- for defensive coordinator.

Would love this!! You see the Titans...number 3 in rushing offense!!

This is a joke right?

Let's hire as HC an OL coach who was out of work for 4 years instead of keeping our current HC that could potentially lead us to our first back-to-back winning seasons in 20 years..... Gruden has also been pretty good at developing Cousins. You take him away, and my guess is Cousins' development will either go stagnant or regress. And I know that Russ is an all time great, but anyone remember the last time we hired a position coach straight to HC.....

Bowles is a good DC, but we could potentially get him (if he gets fired) now.

This is typical Washington football --- at the first sign of a trouble (and in this case one bad game), lets blow everything up and start over...... like we have been doing since 1997.

I'll give Gruden his due as a OC was never excited about his hire as a HC.

As for hiring Grimm, we did hire a HC who's major body of work was in the arena league??

nobody's really clamoring for Gruden to be fired .... yet
Gruden will be back as long as we do not see a lack of effort from both players & coaches like we all saw on MNF

That lack of effort game against the Panthers may have blown away a chance at making the playoffs - when you consider that we have a QB who is possibly The Best Redskins In Decades (maybe ever, according to OldSchool) - this is not going to sit very well with this weasel we have for an owner

these next 2 games are fairly important for Gruden's future

Not sure we're getting rid of Gruden, unless we continue to see a complete lack of effort like we all saw on MNF

hopefully McCloughan is the one who decides that we need a new HC and who that will be

Todd Bowles is too good - the Jets know this

Gruden is not a bad HC but Russ Grimm would be a better HC

Cousins is a good NFL QB - it should not affect his play at all

there's 2 games to go - these players and coaches need to show us all that the MNF game was an aberration

I say stick it out with Gruden, but we desperately need a new DC.

If Gruden is here next season, Joe Barry is likely here too - Barry is Gruden's pick as DC - the defense needs to do a better job - Joe Barry is a highly regarded DC

this is not about "one bad game ..." this is about a HC that has not done as well as he should have and especially when you consider that the record was 6-3-1 - this is about not getting the team motivated and for all of us to witness a gutless performance on MNF

Can you imagine a Russ Grimm led team with Bill Callahan staying on as the OL coach - OMG

Really? Barry hasn't shown that he's anything more than a mediocre position coach.

Gruden is not a leader, he doesn't inspire anybody on the sidelines he reacts after the event occurs, the true trait of a follower. Watch coach Tomblin before a play, thats how a leader acts. Gruden accepts what ever happens, as defeatists do, and moves on - for instance the play where the DB got called for PI with an uncatchable ball, Gruden stood there with a dumb look while the refs themselves raised the issues when it is up to Gruden to raise the issue. You saw the reaction of the Carolina Coach when the decision was reversed, thats what a leader does! Compare the reactions of 2 coaches to the same event, one is a leader and the other a follower.
There is no way Gruden is back next year, it is obvious this is as good as it gets. I imagine the entire coaching staff will be replaced.

you are only showing that you really don't know much about coaching

Joe Barry is held in high esteem by his peers - it's understandable that many here want to blame all of our defensive problems and lack of success on the DC but the fact remains - many NFL coaches think that Joe Barry is a very good DC

Just came here to say name one coach not on this staff who thinks Barry is highly regarded.

I'd say Snyder would have cut Gruden loose last year except for Scott. This year is painfully obvious the lack of leadership, Joe Barry is probably ok as a coach but Snyder is not a man of patience and this coaching staff has had it's try. We've seen more games lost from bad decisions than bad talent and that is going to be addressed. It might not get fixed but it's coming.

Gruden will be gone if we lose these next 2 - not because he's not good enough but because we have a stupid owner

I'm not a Gruden or Barry fan but there were many articles both before and during this season stating that both Joe Barry and Sean McVay are really good coaches at their positions and that they were thought well of by their peers
