Correlation or causation and if the latter in what direction ?

Interesting regardless.

I wonder what this stat looks like for other quarterbacks.

Do you have some sort of link or did you simply figure it out ?

I would imagine it's a correlation. Fall behind in games you pass more, I'm sure if you look at stats for those high pass attempt games his passers-by rating is probably pretty good, also I'm sure most of them were a loss because of defensive player. Just a hunch

I looked at his stats myself. It took some time but yeah I think a balanced attack is always the best route

Honestly the Steelers game is the only one we really fell behind badly this year.

can the fade route and just run the damn ball - when they prove that they can stop the run, just find a way to run the damn ball

One of the best O lines in the league and we can't commit to the run? Many of us have been saying run the ball!

I hate to say it but we may need to give Matt Jones another look. Or draft Leonard Fournette. I hope this upcoming draft we add another All pro guard as well.

I don't think Kelley is the problem he is just not seeing enough carries. When we on primetime Sean McVay seem to want to showcase his high powered offense by passing all the time. Jones wasn't running bad neither he just have a fumbling problem that Kelley do not have currently *knock on wood*

We need to run the ball more and keep their offense off the field.

Now I agree with you last point taken separately, but don't if you combine the two statements --- in that I wouldn't agree that we need to run the ball in order to keep opponent DEFs off the field. In reality, you need to get first downs to keep the opposing OFF off the field. Running 3 times and punting doesn't do it.

That being said, I do agree we need to run much more in general, but mostly to help our redzone OFF. By the time we get to the RZ, players like DJack and Crowder (and their ability to stretch the field) no longer help us. DEFs can bring their LBs in and allow their safeties to do the work otherwise done by the LBs inside the 20. It also doesn't help that our running packages are HIGHLY predictable. On thanksgiving, I created an audience by accurately calling all but 3 of our rushing attempts --- including what side of the line they were running to. If I can do that (2 of the 3 were wrong because I guessed the wrong side of the field, but were still runs), I am fairly confident a DC can too. Regardless, why we don't run the ball more and why we don't mix up our packages, motion, etc. on such plays is puzzling to me, personally. I think our RZ running issues do have something to do with the fact we don't have a true non-3D "dual threat" RB, but we can't fix that ---- we can fix the playcalling and packages. And when you look at the stats, we have gotten a 1D in 16 of 21 attempts when rushing on 3 and 1-4yds, while being 15 of 29 in 1Ds when passing on 3rd and 1-4. More commitment needs to be given to the run.

Also, with regards to the pass attempts stat ---- that is a direct result of the "run when you are ahead" and "run to run out the clock". You pass big to catch up. If you are up 7+ by 4Q, you run as a rule. I have never paid attention to the pass attempts-win stat.

I can't remember the last time we ran 3 times in a row lmao. I can tell you we have passed at that method plenty of times. Running the ball isn't always effective for sure and like you said 1st downs is paramount. But once you get that first down it doesn't mean you gotta keep passing the ball up and down the field. I think it was one game Kirk passed 56 times. That is ridiculous for a game that was never really out of reach.

I think most games we have played the bulk of the passing has been established within a close game. When were we ever behind 2+ touchdowns outside of I think the Pittsburgh game?

Anyway there have to be a balance but yet like you say the running game still have to be an effective entity within the game.

We ARE running the ball effectively! ALL THREE of our rbs average more then 4.5 yards per rush... Jones at 4.6, fatrob at 4.7, and CT at 5.0... the only ineffective part is continuing to do so. Despite our predictability on most the first and goal runs, we are effective at rushing, just abandon ship for what ever reason :/

Shows a mistake in the play-calling. The Redskins should have a 100 yard rusher every game, and nearly even pass-plays and running plays.

+1 - and it's even more important at the end of the season to run the ball
