Has anyone heard anything about how he's progressing and if there's any chance we try again signing him for 2017?

Remember 3 times a charm!!!

Two ACLs later he isn't the same player. I wouldn't count on it.

It's two Achilles Tendons... but, who's counting.
Bottom line... recovering from an Achilles is much less challenging than an ACL... I have hopes... A revitalized Gallette added to this defense would be huge. Add a legit NT, and this becomes a very dangerous D.

Add a Center and a LG, and the Offense is different, too...

You still think a center is needed? I was under the impression that they're pretty happy with Spencer Long.

Yea, brain fart. 8-[ Still have a hard time believing they'll risk a third straight year of a player they've gotten exactly ZERO regulation game snaps out of in two seasons.

I'd more likely believe they'll see what they have in Martrell Spaight.

I expect they'll Gallette a shot to see how he looks, but hopefully they won't be counting on him like they were this year.

Guys can come back from injuries, and he's still relatively young. He hasn't played in two years though, so who the hell knows...

Galette talked with Doc Walker and Scott Jackson about the injury Wednesday afternoon on ESPN 980’s “Inside the Locker Room.”
Doc Walker: “What went down, I mean that was the shock of the summer. We’ve seen you work so hard I didn’t think anything could happen…”

Junior Galette: “It’s one of those things that had to happen. I’m asking my doctors like what’s going on, but he’s telling me the type of athlete I am and the explosion I have. My muscle fiber and my right Achilles wasn’t strong enough to hold up for all the type of training I’ve been doing. It’s just something that was gonna happen regardless I was doing drills. It was gonna happen, that’s what [the doctor] said thats what I’m going with, it was a freak accident. I was doing drills. The type of drills I was doing on Sunday. All of a sudden I tried to get off the ball and it felt like someone kicked me in the back of my leg all over again and I’m thinking no way that this is happening. I turned around and thought it was one of my buddies that kicked me in my leg, but no. In my head I’m praying like maybe there’s no way that it’s this unfortunate. I grabbed my ankle and said maybe its a partial strain. Because the first one with my left leg, I got up and collapsed. So I’m walking it off. I said let’s go get a MRI, I think I strained it. I’m walking around, they went in [after the MRI] and confirmed it that it was a torn right Achilles.”

Scott Jackson: “Did they say, perhaps since it’s the opposite side, is it maybe a situation where your body compensates because the one side isn’t as strong?”

Junior Galette: “I definitely asked them that, was it because of the compensation. But the doctor said no. The type of athlete I am and the type of explosiveness that I have for that much body weight to be moving that fast, it was just something that was bound to happen over time. Because I’m going into year seven, you know. Ive been doing a lot of hard cuts and planting. So I’m fortunate that it happened right now. I have a good four years of my prime left in my career. Like I said, the left one, when that happened, I was devastated. Because of the type of year that I had before being released by the Saints coming off a 48 million deal and trying to prove myself. When that happened I was devastated for about a moment. Every day I workmen in tears. But this point, I had my two days where I was sulking and felling sorry of myself. I feel great, IO know exactly what I need to do to get back to the form that I was in — even better.

Doc Walker: “This may be completely ridiculous. Like Tommy John surgery, when pitchers tear a muscle and come back stronger, would it make sense that when you have both repaired would you be in a better situation?”

Junior Galette: “That’s the mindset that I have. Regardless that’s a fact right now. I’m like okay i came back from my left one and I felt way more explosive than I ever felt. The Doctor that repaired me, Dr. Anderson, said theres no way you’ll tear your left one again. The type of surgery we had is so advanced. So I had so much confidence, I never even thought. I just took that as my belief and said I’m gonna go as hard as I possibly can. And I felt the explosion in my left leg planting like I never had. That’s the mindset that I do have. I’m saying listen, maybe my Achillies heel is the weak point where god made me so lets get them both repaired and hopefully I’ll come back stronger than ever. i know exactly what it takes to come back in the form that I was in, so explosive. I’m thinking, man I shoukdve done OTA’s, and all these things going through my head. It’s something that was something that was inevitable. And it happened. I’m not gonna sulk on it. I’m getting surgery Monday. I just cannot wait to start this rehab process. Obviously I have to be in a boot for a month, i know exactly what I need to do to rehabilitate myself to be back in the best form I’ve ever been in. I want to cut back another five pounds and get to about 252. And lord willing come back as a third down specialist, finish the tail end, the four years that I, lord willing, plan on playing.”

Scott Jackson: “You have a terrific attitude. I mean, you sound great, You’ve heard the outpouring of support. Ryan Kerrigan was on with us just before. Chris Baker saying the same stuff yesterday how you thought they fit into the locker room. Play the role of analyst. Who do you think is ready to full your shoes with the production that you could’ve had this year?

Junior Galette: “I feel like obviously Preston Smith is a phenomenal athlete. And I don’t want to put too much pressure on him but it what it is. I tell him all the time he’s a superstar in the making. He’s 6’5″ 270 and can run like a gazelle. Long arms, he has that body type that you just can’t find. I just told him to get in better condition, which he did this offseason. We did a lot of training regiments together and he’s in the best shape he’s ever been in. And that mindset to have as a second year guy I’ve never seen before. I’m going into year seven, and I haven’t seen a rookie have that much success and come back the second year with the same attitude that they want to be better than they’ve ever been and that’s where he’s at right now. It’s not like “Oh, this guy is going to fill Junior Galette’s shoes.” Preston Smith’s going to fill HIS shoes and he’s going to be the best that he can be. And I, and a lot of people, believe this guy can be a consistent double digit sack guy.

Scott Jackson: “I saw you tweet out that you owe the Redskins so much that you have no choice but to sign back […] you still feel like, it sounds like, hearing your teammates talk, that you are very much a piece of this football team…“

Junior Galette: “No doubt about it. No doubt about it. Scott McLoughan called me and said everything going to be alright, we’re here for you. And he knows how hard I worked to come back. And everyone on that training staff knows how hard I worked to come back. The loyalty and passion that I have is there. So deep down, from day one, the fans embraced me with so much love. As a human being and the loyal person that I am, I feel like there’s no other team — there’s no other home for me. So lord willingly we’ll work something out. I don’t care about the pay, I don’t care about anything, i just wanna come back and prove I’m a top tier pass rusher in this league.”

Doc Walker: “We want that tattoo to stay in place, we know you’re inked up!”

Junior Galette: “I don’t want to get another one. I don’t plan on getting a Cowboys one, I can promise you that.”

Scott Jackson: “You tweeted out the day of the injury the video. That wasn’t when you got hurt, was it?”

Junior Galette: “That’s exactly when I got hurt. I didn’t put [that I got hurt] on there. But when I got hurt you really couldn’t even tell. Because I walked it off. There’s no way. But I think that was my body being in shock, my nervous system just being so shocked that this would be happening that I had the courage and he strength to walk it off and say you know what, I’m fine. This ain’t a tear because I couldn’t walk off my left leg when I tore that one. So there’s no way it could be that serious. I’m praying for a partial tear where I’m out 6-8 weeks. Because when you strain an Achilles, it’s literally the first 3 days you can’t walk on it. And that’s what I was praying for. And the doctor asked me to do a calf raise sitting down and I did it. To this day I still can do it. Bt I guess, you know, I’m still in shock, or it’s a little different from the first injury, that’s what he said. They both completely tore. I just feel like the first one I couldn’t walk on it, do anything on it. But here I am […] I’m still in disbelief to the point where I want to get a second opinion to see if its partially torn. Because theres no way I should have any type of — the Achilles should be disconnected. I’m still in disbelief, but you know I’m going with the doctors they know what they’re doing over there and they really care about me. it is what it is, I’m just going to get the surgery on Monday with Dr. Anderson in charlotte. He’s the best. He repaired my left one and I felt phenomenal. I don’t feel no pain whatsoever in that one. So I’m going to do the same thing with my right one. I know the process this time. I’ll be a lot better and I’m prepping to come back of OTA’s next year.”

Scott Jackson: “Great. Junior, appreciate your time. Thanks for clarifying that because some people were unclear whether or not that injury was on the actual video…”

Junior Galette: “Yeah, that was the day that it happened. I was doing some get-offs. I did a conditioning test before that. I had planned to come back and do the conditioning test with the DB’s/. That’s the type of shape that I was in. I put myself through rigorous training three times a day. it is what it is. It’s torn, looking forward to this rehab process. I’m not sulking. I don’t even have time to sulk on it to have time to sulk on it because this is my last roll of the dice. And lord willing I roll a good one this time.”

I'm not routing against the guy but it seems like the odds aren't exactly in his favor. I'm positive he'll be given every opportunity up until cuts start. From there it will be a numbers game, as per usual.

The thing is, he was going to make the final roster both seasons if healthy, pushing Murphy back to DL and someone off the roster.

Murphy has shown he's worth keeping at OLB so that's one less position to fill there.

No doubt. Seems like Preston Smith has surprisingly been the guy who has struggled a bit.

Spaight is an inside linebacker... very different skill set. Bringing Gallette back will be pretty much a no risk deal, at this point. If he blows up in preseason, it's not really a big deal... OTOH, if he approaches the old version of Junior Gallette, ding, ding... winner. You want pass pressure? We can load the offensive backfield with burgundy.

Long is a starter. We need a beast, with the attitude of a honey badger. Honey badger don't care, you know?

True, however, that Trent Murphy guy is an outside linebacker (again) and I can't imagine him losing the job to Galette or anyone else. He's been the Skins' best front seven player this season.

Sophomore slumps are common in the NFL. OT took Murphy himself a season or two to show a spark of talent.

Thanks for the replies here.

I also think we'll give him a chance and I also think he'll give us a hometown discount...

The guy is the best pass rusher we'd have. Maybe not a 3 down guy but certainly a great PR on 2nd and 3rd and long...

I like Murphy a lot... but he is NOT the player Gallette is (if healthy). Pretending that Murphy's starting job is safe if Gallette is "back" is simply foolish.

One thing is certain: Teams never complain about having too many pass rushers. It'd be nice if that's one less need to address on the defense. There are enough of those already.
