The Washington Redskins have added yet another New York veteran to their starting lineup

SportsLine.com has learned that that Washington has agreed to a six-year deal with LB Micheal Barrow that includes about $8 million for the first three years of the deal.

Barrow will fly to Washington tomorrow for a press conference to announce the deal, which marks the end of Jeremiah Trotters tenure.

Barrow confirmed via cell phone that he has agreed to terms.

"It came down to the Redskins and the Lions and I couldnt go wrong either way, it was a tough choice because I really like Steve Marriucci, Matt Millen and Martin Mayhew," he said. "But in the end, football-wise I loved what the Redskins had to offer with Joe Gibbs and Gregg Williams. Im going in there tomorrow for a press conference and will be with the team for minicamp."

Barrow led the conference in tackles last season but was a salary cap casualty this off-season. Still, Barrow says they contacted him after his release to try to lure him back.

"Coach Coughlin called me right when I came back from visiting the Redskins but I never thought their interest was significant," said Barrow. "I will really miss the relationships I established there with guys like their trainer Ronnie Barnes and some other Giants teammates. But now I get to see those guys twice a year."

He is expected to start for the Redskins as their middle linebacker.

Now....lets just hope that Barrow does not become Trotter2

Right after we signed Trotter to a big free agent contract......well you know....

Very interesting!

Well... I would expect to see some cuts - and the numbers of those cuts might tell us what to expect in the draft... depends on how much money is left after this deal

I do not understand this signing at all! I know that Trotter will now defintely be released but I do not like this move. Barrow is 33 and although he is still pretty good Trotter is 27 and will have a huge cap hit. He still led the Skins in tackles last year despite coming off knee surgery. I have a feeling he will play up to his potential that he had previously displayed in prior years this year.

how are we paying for this... 8 million in the first three years... goodness

If it was up to me I would have kept Trotter.
I still do not understand the whole Trotter thing. Maybe the staff knows a lot more than us?

But, I know Barrow had a great season last year but he seems like the type of player that would slack off once he hits the big pay day.

I think he is the best available MLB, and it is obvious we were not going to get a starting caliber MLB in the draft. K-Mitch won't get his chance, but we know he will be a solid backup to Barrow.

Maybe Barrow will get cut like Trotter...after 2 seasons?
They both have similar contracts.

Almost every team's middle linebacker leads their team in tackles. Why does everybody want to defend Trotter all the time. He's no where near Barrow's level (150 tackles last year). Trotter has been nothing but a huge bust for us. He will never be the same after the injury, but even before all that he wasn't on pace to have that great of a season. Gregg Williams said he didn't want him on his defense, and that should be good enough of a reason for all of us to cut the guy. Let him suck for some other team.

Talk about a revamped defense.

Corn Griffen
Shawn Springs
Marcus Washington
Phillip Daniels
Mike Barrow

...damn....

Don't you love the chemistry that Lavar and Champ were hoping for all these seasons?

;)

what the h-e-double hockey sticks is going on.. i mean barrow is a good mlb and all and ill take him over trotter but... what did danny do with the cap, lock it up in his basement somewhere, we have 3 million in cap room for this year, its starting to seem more and more like they really think they will win the superbowl THIS YEAR, i sure hope so because this whole craziness is.. well.. crazy

Yes! This is awesome! Barrow will add some strength and energy to this team! I love it!

Don't get me wrong, I love K-Mitch as much as anyone out there but Barrow, IMO, was too good to pass up. I love the signing but my boy K-Mitch got screwed again which makes me feel like he won't be back next year and I don't like that.

I hope we don't write Mitchell. This team is going to extra d-backs and backers because our backers like Lavar will effectively be a defensive end . . . and special teams is a priority. I hope he sticks. He's a character guy and good for the team.

As far as stating a preference for Trotter - remember when Gibbs came back and we all said, "now we'll get back to winning." IMO a move like cutting Trotter is Gibbs doing just that. I trust him and Greg Williams without question to shape this team of decade long losers into a winning squad.

Signing Barrow is good news. I was getting bored we'd gone so long between moves!

I don't think we'll cut him. If anything, Mitchell just won't come back because this is his third straight (at least) season playing for us on a One-Year Deal. He wants a chance to start so he may be elsewhere. I will talk about it but as usual I will support him with whatever choice he makes.

Trotter with a torn acl a year and a half ago or Mike Barrow who led the conference in tackles...you make the call....and Barrow is cheaper

but money, moulah, green backs, cash, dough, how on earth are we now showing yet another player "the money" dont get me wrong this signing strengthens our team but with cutting trotter, there will be cap ramifications, and with signing him to a 6 year deal, 8 mill over the first three years i think they said... how.. how.. howwww

I do believe it is a bit to much for a player his age, but you know Danny and crew have a plan. They won't leave themselves in a position where they can't splurge on a player. I am sure they have a plan already worked out.

i like the move...and as far as trotter..all i can say is C-ya!! he was a bust..and from what ive heard he was locker room poison.. gibbs wont have that kind of nonsence in his locker room...no more cellphone calls during meetings!!!!!! i cant wait till september!!!!!!

That's exactly what I was thinking. Hopefully when Gibbs talked with him he read Barrow's character accuratly and came to the conclusion that Barrow's a nice guy. I don't know much about Barrow's character. I hope he's cool.

Common thread. I concur. Hello, Mr. Barrow. Welcome to Washington. Jeremiah, for once, potential doesn't count. See ya !

who us? The staff? know anything? ;)

I have heard rumors is all, and I can't state them simply because they are rumors and it is a man's rep we are talking about. If the rumors are wrong, I take a chance of sullying a guy.

IMO, this is a good move and Trotter won't cost us as much this year if we release him after June 1, if I am correct.

I think Barrow has a lot left in his tank as he has shown in recent years. If he plays better then it is definitely a good pickup that allows us to groom someone to take over for him from the next couple of drafts.

Mitchell is not full of options at this point in his career. He will stay with the skins if we win and he can get a steady paycheck. I think Gibbs will do some platooning at the LB position especially with all the blitzing we will do this year.

Just wait for the cuts to come soon with the Barrow signing.

With all of the Giants signings this year it will make my day that much more fun as I sit in section 102 in the Meadowlands to watch my Skins romp all over the pathetic G-Men.....and taunt their fans all the way down the turnpike.

i didn't think it was possible when i heard the news today i just had to laugh. barrow was a favourite of a lot of giant fans. now he plays for the enemy. ha! you got to love free agency. i am excited to get barrow. he's a class act and a hell of a linebacker. but most of all, the man says the zaniest things. he's a sound byte machine!

how in the world is snyder pulling this off?!?! we'll see in the next few years, eh?

I don't like this move. Kevin Mitchell is a really good linebacker. I just think he didn't get a chance to show it because of trotter coming in. Now that barrow is coming in. Goshdangit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is horsecrud.

Kevin Mitchell has the talent and now the Redskins want to waste money to get somebody new. Its obvious that Kevin Mitchell is committed here. He weouldn't have re-uped if he wasn't. not only once but three times!!!!!!!!

I only wish I could buy a Kevin Mitchell jersey right now. Because that guy could have left for another team and made more money but he stayed behind. He has heart.

Maybe I'm losing my mind... getting Michael Barrow isn't a good thing?

Are you kidding me?

I was going to write a long thread, but I think I'll just write an article for tomorrow instead
