They both showed up, but I'm leaning toward Brown.

I've had a spot for Brown since day one... had high hopes for Marshal... it have seen Kelley demonstrate why he is here too. With the injuries we've seen already, going Jones Thompson Kelley AND Brown doesn't sound out of the norm to me- especially with TEs doubling as the FB.
I'd hate to see Brown walk and ball elsewhere too tho man!! He came in to preseason HUNGRY!

Why? Because he was awesome in the 4th preseason game? Come on, man. Kelley was rock solid last night too, and there is a reason they played him a few downs and sat him down. The coaches clearly know the answer to your question.
I will say though that Gruden has been talking Brown up all through training camp, so I don't think he was necessarily just a one game wonder. I'd keep both - especially with Jones and Thompson seeming to be a little injury Prone - if at all possible. I'd much rather see them keep Mack Brown than a fourth TE. Sorry, Paulsen.

Yes. We keep Kelley or Brown.
I think we keep both. Paulsen may be in a bit of trouble.

hah. Yeah he was already in a bit of trouble. Stinking it up in the 4th preseason game probably didn't help matters!

I think we keep both. I'm not thoroughly convinced that Matt Jones can handle the workload. Also, keep in mind, we are not going with a FB at all this year (no Daryl Young) so I believe we would be able to carry 4 RBs.

Good point about the FB.

It's not an either / or. As of right this minute Kelley is starting week one against the Steelers unless they add a veteran back between now and then. Or did someone forget Jones is injured?
A lot can change between now and Saturday, when they have to make the final cuts. If Jones isn't medically cleared it changes everything.

I thought Mack Brown has played well thorughout preseason. I just feel the other games he wasn't given the lanes like he was the 4th game. He has always ran harder and more confident than Kelly to me. I can say Kelly has improved each game compared to the 1st game where he seemed more stiff. Neither are special but it really comes down to who pass block and play special teams better. I think they are both close as a runner.
Kelley is just the natural fan favorite since the team/media have been pushing him. When I heard Gruden make an emphasis to the media that his nickname is "fat rob" I knew Brown had a hill to climb.

Thanks! Totally made that point first...
Fwiw Matt Jones was said to be missing the rest of preseason as a precaution, and ready to go week 1. How much has that changed IDK, haven't seen any updates?
I think the two young backs demonstrated a good 1/2 punch last night... albeit vs nobody's. I think we saw what the run game CAN look like if our online creates lanes like the back ups did easily vs the bucs. I'm not sure we've seen the final product starting oline and what our backs can do... so I'll remain optimistic about the group until proven otherwise.
Jones has to be still considered the feature back IMHO... he has a year in the system and the NFL over the youngsters at minimum... and likely has more of the blocking duties and receiving duties down

That's just it. The injury Jones has can take a week or two months. No one is saying anything.
Still think it's funny how many people are on the Brown bandwagon over one game versus the third string Tampa defense on a wet field.

Why? Have you forgotten Lache Seastrunk and his 80 yard TD against Tampa?

Both. Kelley is the better back of the two, IMHO, and could even push for starting time this year if Jones doesn't show up (though I think he will).

Jones is starting week one. His injury only kept him out of the rest of the preseason, part of which I'm pretty sure was just precautionary. So far, all indications are that he'll be ready to go.

I've liked what I've seen from Brown all preseason... this was just the cherry on top type of thing! I think he was by far the most effective/ consistent back since day one. However, he also played the lowest level of Comp, so who knows? He definitely made a case for himself last night tho!
Kelley started off pretty poor in game 1, but has gotten better every game- a really good sign that he's making the transition to the NFL. I think Brown has been Mr consistent on the other hand and is a Hard nosed runner with good vision. I saw Kelley stay down and wince a few times over the last two games so I'd give the durability point to Brown solely on the fact that he just keeps on chugging ala AlMo circa 2012

I like the way Kelly moves in traffic. He seems to have good vision, and makes the cuts to avoid tacklers.

It may come down to who's the better blocker, catcher, and/or special teamer. JoeY T pointed out one play that Sudfeld took a sack, Brown shortly broke away from his PA fake to the right to block the defender coming around the corner on the left. A beautiful heads up adjustment, might've executed better- however had the qb merely stepped up into the enormous pocket, then Browns efforts wouldn't have been in vain

Thats an odd vote. Nobody voted for Kelly by himself, therefor everybody voted for Mack with or without Kelly. His stock rose last night for sure.

One thing that actually bodes well for both Kelley and Brown, was their ability to spell each other and be and not miss a beat. Unlike other running backs, that require a certain amount of touches to hit a rhythm and what not, they both provided a breath of fresh air when their number was called. Having them be able to do this effectively should raise their stock, and of course provide positive outcomes when Jones needs a breather.

They were playing a 2nd and 3rd string team that was horribly outclassed by the Redskins 2nd and 3rd string. There was a lot to like, both have good instincts and skills... but will it hold against starter quality talent?
At any rate, the FO has some tough calls to make... there are plenty of players, whom, if cut, will be grabbed in a second. There are a few players that we will cut whom will be starting somewhere else by the end of the year... or sooner.

I think the Skins should keep both of them and go lighter at another position. I like the way both of them played and the other Redskin running backs all come with question marks. I don't have confidence in Jones, Marshall is hurt and Thompkins tends to get hurt. I think Brown and Kelly may both be contributors in 2017.
