“We have to have a depth chart out here probably early next week just for the media and for the program or whatever, but really it’s wide open right now,” Redskins head coach Gruden said last week. “I wouldn’t even put a depth chart out until Week 3 of the preseason. We’re trying to get everybody an opportunity and make our decisions.”

Several things are wrong with this chart already. Doctson is nowhere on the chart. Lauvao is ahead of Long at left guard. Kelley is ahead of Marshall and Brown at running back. Daniels is on I.R.. Cravens cannot be listed as a linebacker due to player 1st year number rules. Murphy is listed as the #2 SLB.

Can't be because he's on the PUP list.

Lauvao is ahead of Long at left guard.

You mean, he should be listed ahead of Long? Lauvao only just came back, so I believe Long still has a weak grip on the starting job.

Kelley is ahead of Marshall and Brown at running back.

The depth chart I'm seeing says Thompson is second, Marshall is third, and four players share the "other" designation: http://www.redskins.com/team/depth-chart.html

Daniels is on I.R.

That's where he's headed, but has the team officially designated him on IR yet? THey have to waive him first. I wonder if they are worried about another team poaching him like Indy poached our rookie CB last year. Maybe they wait until the rosters are cut down in size.

Cravens cannot be listed as a linebacker due to player 1st year number rules.

Don't they allow weird numbers during training camp and in preseason because of how many players are on the roster? I remember that Dunbar kept his WR number last year despite playing CB in preseason games. Once the regular season hit he switched.

Murphy is listed as the #2 SLB.

He told reporters that the team imagines a kind of hybrid role for him — sometimes playing end but also taking reps standing up on the outside — so that makes sense.

My first impression looking over the chart is, we are looking better than last year. The only units that look weaker on paper to me are DL and ILB. Meanwhile, some units have improved greatly, and our depth is looking better than ever.

However, I thought our penciled-in starters at linebacker last year were good, yet they got replaced during the season by the guys who are going to start for us this year. So perhaps we've actually improved there or at least aren't worse. And last year's DL didn't perform as well on the field as they were supposed to on paper, so maybe we haven't downgraded there as much as I think.

Our safeties still seems like a weak unit to me, but I think we're better there than last year, and it's not nearly as bad as it was a couple of years ago.

Meanwhile, our WR corps looks much improved, as do our CBs and TEs. (In fact, I'd say that our WRs, TEs, and CBs rank up there with the league's better units, and I would not have said that last year at this time for any position.) And we look much more likely to have a legit starter at the game's most important position, too, with Cousins hopefully establishing himself as a franchise player this year.

DL is definitely a concern although I keep hearing Paea is playing like the player they thought they were getting two years ago and we know Baker is capable. Golston is a solid rotational player but that what he needs to be, especially at his age.

I'm not sure anyone has confidence in Mason and Foster as the starters but when everything needs fixing it takes more than one offseason.

I actually think the safety play will be improved so long as the starting cornerbacks stay healthy. Norman isn't a turnover machine but Hall is so I think that will work in our favor.

Honestly, my biggest concern is a viable rushing game because defenses will adjust to the short passing game and try to make the Redskins beat them deep or rushing the football.

Cousins has many strengths but deep passing isn't one of them. We're going to need a viable rushing attack.

Riley ahead of Cravens? I dunno about that, maybe I should be more disappointed in Cravens. The weakest I see is center, Korey will get hurt and Spencer will be LG so we'll have Josh playing center during the critical stretch again this year. I felt this was our weakness playing the Packers, they could see it and knew to exploit it.

I hope that we find someone to replace LeRibeus .... how hard can that be?

I expect this team to be a lot like the team we had during the second half of the season with Cousins and his receivers carrying most of the load. If the Skins get a couple of injuries in the receiving corps the team would really struggle to win games. I'd like to see a better running game and defense in 2016 but I'm not that hopeful. The pass defense will probably be better after all the additions but that is really more of a hope than an expectation.

I'm highly doubtful he'll make the 53 this year.
