Keeping up with our Jake

"Jake Russell has been a sports news aide and blogger with the Washington Post since 2013."

Ah..."we knew him when"...Teri's avatar was a picture of toddler Jake on the shoulders of a huge Redskin lineman, probably taken at a training camp. Once, CT and I discussed the morning columns by Shirley Povich and Bob Addie...was it a good idea to trade Gil Coan ("Get goin' with Gl Coan") for Roy Sievers? Now Jake is working in the Sports Department where the great Povich was a junior stringer covering the 1924 World Series.

Here's to Jake!

And here's his latest: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc- ... bat-decal/

A whole thread devoted to me? No way! haha Thanks Welch!

Here's a whole list of pieces I've written for The Post, some more informative than others. https://www.washingtonpost.com/people/jake-russell

Also, if you're interested in some more reading material, this is available as well. :D

Latest: Jake keeps up with Ian Desmond and Terrance "Nats Pack" Briscoe: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc- ... e-reunite/

Nat fans tend to follow Desi, but it's harder to follow Terrance...a "leader of the Pack" now, we've learned, leading cheers for the OKC Thunder.

Jake asks Nats fans what we think of a suggestion from Tom Verducci:

Nats give up:

- Lucas Giolito (former first round pick, was considered best pitching prospect in all MLB. Pitched poorly when called up last season, but still...)
- Eric Fedde (former 1st round pick, RHP recovered from Tommy John. P{itched better and better in the minors last season)
- Carter Kieboom (first year SS, highly rated SS prospect)

Chicago White Sox would give up:

- Chris Sales (big star LHP)

No brainer. Two aces on a pitching staff is a luxury every team would love. Problem is it ties up a huge amount of money that won't be going to bats.

I say no brainer the other way. No deal! Pitching wins championships. But I don't know any of the players involved, and have no vested interest with either team.

Probably not a deal the White Sox would make.

- Giolito slipped from "best pitching prospect in all of baseball" to "must prove that he has a superior fastball" and "no control yet"
- Next year will be Fedde's first full season since recovering from Tommy John surgery. He improved toward the end of last season, but there's no way even to guess if he can become a major league pitcher
- Kieboom has a half-season of professional baseball as of the end of this past season.
