Rd 6 pick: Nate Sudfeld, QB

Post by OldSchool »

I watched Nate Sudfeld a few times and I like him. He has a very good arm and is mobile. He played in a spread offense with plays flashed in from the sidelines so he has a big learning curve ahead of him learning how to run a WCO but I'm glad the Skins picked him, I think he could turn out to be a good one in a few years.

I liked him too. He had alot of heart in the few games I seen him in and remind me of like Nick Foles. Tough guy. Definitely have what you want in a winner. I think this is a good pick.

I predict he will light it up in the 4th quarter all preseason long.

Nate Sudfeld, QB, Indiana
Rank: 11
Height: 6-5. Weight: 240. Hand: 9.88.
40 Time: 4.93.
Projected Round (2016): 5-7.
4/25/16: Sudfeld completed 61 percent of his passes this season for 3,184 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has good size and a strong arm, but he needs to get faster in his delivery. Sudfeld also has to improve his accuracy, ball placement and field vision, plus play faster. He had a quality week at the East-West Shrine and is a late-round developmental candidate.

PLAYER OVERVIEW

Sudfeld comes from an athletic family, including twin brothers who both played college football. Matthew was a wide receiver at Brown University (2007-11) and Zach is currently a tight end with the New York Jets after starring at Nevada.
Penn State's Christian Hackenberg, Michigan State's Connor Cook and Ohio State's Cardale Jones are the most recognizable quarterback names out of the Big Ten this year, but Sudfeld is one of the better senior prospects at his position.

He shared the quarterback duties his first two seasons for the Hoosiers and then in 2014, Sudfeld was lost for the season in October with a shoulder injury. He returned in 2015 to throw for 3,573 yards and 27 touchdowns against seven interceptions while posting a 151.03 passer efficiency rating in Indiana's up-tempo spread offense.

He was named team MVP and finished the season with 11 touchdown passes in the final three games.

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS: He certainly passes the eye test, both on the sideline and taking snaps with his set-up and delivery. Excellent arm strength to handle the NFL passing tree. He is a tall drink of water with a big arm, slinging the rock all over the field. Has the frame, arm strength and intangibles that will appeal to NFL teams as a developmental project.
WEAKNESSES: Struggles with consistency in his delivery due to his long arms, which leads to accuracy issues and sailing throws. Needs to improve his decision-making, especially once his eyes move from his initial progression. The area scouts need to see the most improvement is simply consistency. Concerns about his ability to translate his success in Indiana's up-tempo offense.

IN OUR VIEW: Sudfeld has the size and arm strength every scout is looking for, but he's not as accurate as his production in Indiana's up-tempo spread offense would indicate. The traits are there to develop, however, and in an average draft class, he could generate middle-round interest with the hopes of ultimately competing for a starting role.

Realistically Skins are deep but and Jordan Reed is a monster at the TE position but Garcon and DJax can be stopped. The QB will only go far as the oline this year. If we allow teams to pass rush us like the Packers in the playoffs then it will be hard getting the ball to these WR's.

Against good defenses we were just average at best. Doctson is a great pick up though because he adds that redzone treat so that should help but yeah Sudfeld could be good if they are patient with him and don't kill his confidence.
