Rams & Eagles trade up - this is a HUGE mistake by their FO

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foo ... needy-ramsI'm reminded of the song line "when will they ever learn, when will they ever learn ..."
the Rams benefitted greatly from our mistake in 2012 and I predict the Titans will benefit more than the Rams from this deal ...
The Eagles are reaching and this is just plain stupid, especially given that they recently signed Bradford ...
I'm so glad that the Redskins FO is more focused on adding draft picks than trading them away - very good franchises (there are a few) can afford to not have many draft picks in the top 100 - good to bad teams (most of the NFL) will learn that it's not how many top 100 draft picks you have that is important - it's having a really good FO/scouting department & having a lot of draft picks no matter which round they are in

I forever hope the Rams will be absolutely garbage.
I hope all their picks turn out to be Ryan Leafs

the Rams franchise is just like most of the NFL - they don't have a FO that can help make them into a perennial playoff contender
we do now and in a couple of years we'll be in the playoffs each and every year not just every now and then like 2012 and 2015

Now we hear the Eagles have traded up as well
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foo ... ith-brownsthis is just as big a mistake as the trade that the Rams made for the 1 pick
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman:
"By making the initial trade with Miami earlier this offseason and with this trade today with Cleveland, we feel that we have put ourselves in the best possible position to draft an impact player. We will now focus our energy on the next step."
they think they're going to be better by getting 1 impact player

are you freaking kidding me?
this is not how you make your franchise better - this is just plain S T U P I D

This should cripple the Eagles for years, if there is any justice. They gave up almost as much as we did for a QB that is even riskier than RG3 was.
Unfortunately, there is no justice in this universe. And the Eagles might emerge from this fine. But we can hope that it's going to cripple them and keep them in the NFC East basement until 2020.

They said that about us as well, if RG was a miss it would set us back a decade...I guess if it wasn't for Kirk that may be true, but in todays NFL you can recover much quicker. I suppose that is why we see these deals??
It's ironic that the two teams who swapped QB's last year both made these trades.

It used to be common practice for teams to make trades hoping for that 1 player that would make a difference
Scot is building a franchise and he understands that you need a lot of good players not a few great ones - that is the old fashioned way of doing things and it especially is not going to work if you do not have a lot of good players already on the roster

I don't know... I think the only thing that saved us from 8-10 years of QB mediocracy was Shanny's foresight that lead to drafting 2 "quality" college seniors in one draft. You spend a couple or more seasons trying to make the "blue chip" guy your franchise before giving up... then, without an option at back-up, you have to start all over again. That does not mention the picks you gave up in rounds 1,2, and/or 3. Those are picks that become your foundation for the future.
Teams rarely recover from that situation very quickly. We may have lucked out, big time.

Maybe…I just think in today’s NFL with free agency, rising salary cap, 7 round draft…it’s easier to recover from a trade like this.

teams do not recover from bad trades if the same people making the deals/trades/acquisitions don't have a clue
this franchise (Redskins) is on the way to a quick recovery because this franchise is now managed by guys that know what they're doing
we would not be here using the same methods we've been using since Dan Snyder bought this franchise - NO WAY
and any franchise can do it - put together a really good FO + get as many draft picks as you can + limit the free agent acquisitions

it's not possible if the franchise is not managed properly and many of these franchise (if not most) are not managed well at all
copying what some other more successful franchise does is only possible if you know how they do it ... not just think you do
I think what Scot is implementing here is completely his own concept and while it may seem similar to other well managed franchises, it really works here because it's his concept not someone else's

here's an article on what happens when franchises forget how important it is to just have good players
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foo ... -decisions“They got a chance with him at quarterback.” Those were the words of Mike Mayock on NFL Network during the period shortly before Cam Newton was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, but they applied to all of the quarterback picks from a largely ill-fated draft class. At the time, anyway. Now, not to so much. The 2011 draft class is instead a cautionary tale on quarterback economics and the perils of panicking and drafting for need instead of taking talent.
Taking Newton was a bold stroke of genius by then GM Marty Hurney, but it wasn't a guaranteed home run. Newton wasn't the top top quarterback on Mayock's best available (Blaine Gabbert was) and wasn't even in the analyst's top 10. Before the draft, ESPN's Mel Kiper likened Newton to Akili Smith (a “one-year wonder”). There was a very real debate about whether Newton, Gabbert or Jake Locker would be the best quarterback in the draft class.
It's all a perfect backdrop, five years later, to a bizarre breakout of aggressiveness in the draft when it comes to quarterbacks.
The Rams traded a pile of future picks to the Titans for the rights to the top pick, presumably to draft Jared Goff. They apparently learned nothing when fleecing the Washington Redskins during the Robert Griffin III deal back in 2012, loading up on defensive players and watching the Redskins roster crumble.
The Eagles did the same with the Browns for the second pick, presumably to draft Carson Wentz, who has less than 650 career college passing attempts. Yes, they already have Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel on the roster.
STUPID decisions

One of these 2 QBs MIGHT become an OK QB but the chances that both will? Slim and None

The Browns especially made out well here because the Eagles 1st and 2nd draft picks in 2017 are going to be high picks ...
of course the Browns still have to make good choices and that is certainly not a given

Stockpiling picks is sure an indicator of a good start... I actually think there is a chance they will right the ship, this time...

I actually do hope the Browns will find a way to "right the ship" - this is a truly sad franchise with an owner that is as bad as Dan Snyder

I can't believe that I just wrote that - especially given that this is one of OldSchool's favorites
