great interview - I agree that this franchise is very fortunate to have this guy on board here

Scot's statement about Robert confirms that you and a few others here do not know much about QBs in the NFL - he refers to Robert as a football player and you obviously don't agree

Man, I love this guy. Nice job, Snyder. Yeah, I can't believe I said that.

In response to what the plan was going forward with Griffin:

"You know what, we're still going through that process...and like I said earlier, as soon as the season ended, I met with the staff as a whole on that Monday, and during the whole week they did a self scout for our guys and I got that book on Friday. I ended up flying out Saturday for the East West Shrine Game down in Florida and I just came down here. So when I get back...with all the coaches after the Super Bowl, I'm looking forward to sitting down individually with them. You know, I have kind of a plan in my mind, but the thing that's important to me is communication in the building. With the coaches, making sure we're on the same page and if we're not...let's talk it through and figure it out. But I respect Robert a lot, a professional, the way he handled adversity...I think he dressed one game, he was great. With the players, in practice he never backed down, he kept plugging away. He's a football player."

If there's a chance Griffin remains on the roster next season:

"There could be. Again like I said, I need to meet individually with the coaches, and meet with Jay again. To get our whole plan figured out. He's done nothing wrong. He came in here and he's been a Redskin, he played his tail off as much as he could. Like I said, he's been through adversity and he's handled it great. It shows what kind of character he has."

On Cousins moving forward:

"I had a really good conversation twice with Kirk. I like the person he is, I like the play he shows, especially the second half of the season. Of course, we want him here. He's a Redskin, he's a drafted Redskin, and I think he embodies what a Redskin is supposed to look like: competitiveness, toughness, leadership, smartness."

To review SM's evaluation of Griffin:

-Football player
-Dressed one game
-Handled adversity well
-Practiced hard
-Good character

Which one of these things will help him become an improved pocket passer again?

Griffin has certainly not shown anyone that he might be an effective QB in the NFL, but he's been a a part of the roster here

is there any chance that he's shown that he can play QB and that the Redskins might resign him?

Which is exactly why I said you have blind faith that he'll develop into a effective QB in the NFL...who remains healthy.

If Scot and Jay think that there's a good chance that Griffin can be an effective NFL QB, why would they not re-sign him?

SM confirmed the franchise tag is in play for Kirk. It has been widely reported that the Skins are serious enough about keeping Kirk that they would use the franchise tag to retain Kirk and now SM stated it publicly. This is good news and hopefully SM and Kirk's agent can come to terms shortly.

I don't know if SM and the Skins are just being gracious and finessing the release of Griffin with this talk and delay in breaking ties with Griffin or inviting a renegotiation of his 2016 contract. Kirk profited by being demoted to third string by devoting himself to a lot of analysis of his own film and studying successful QBs like Brady. Perhaps Griffin has used his time this season to do the same.

With Kirk it was evident in 2014 he understood Gruden's offense and the QBs responsibilities but his execution was spotty. So Kirk was able to focus on his mechanics, his movement within the pocket, his pace of play, his use of his eyes, diminishing his tells and the like. Griffin appeared to me to have much bigger problems but if the Skins renegotiate it will tell me they must believe Robert has worked on the analytical aspects and has made some progress so they feel there is hope for Griffin in Gruden's system. I don't think at this point they would keep him on the roster because Dan Snyder still has a man crush, I think Cousins is Snyder's favorite now.

I'd like them to give McCoy a generous multi-year backup QB contract because McCoy is able to execute Gruden's offense and with him and Kirk the Skins would have strength at the position. McCoy may want to move on and take another shot at winning a starters job.

To be fair, Bashir did ask him if RGIII returning was a possibility, and Scot said that it definitely was.

is that your opinion or is it just based on your feelings towards Robert - one is acceptable & irrelevant the other is indicative of your perspective

unlike some here, I don't hate Redskins players - I may not be as supportive when they go to another franchise, but while they are a part of the roster I hope that the franchise is better off by having them here

my opinion is that no matter how Dan Snyder feels about Robert This FO and coaching staff will only make an effort to keep him here if they think he can help the franchise - this franchise is being properly managed now and these guys will not let good football players go

haters are gonna hate - we know their opinion is biased and is not based on what is best for the franchise

I think it has already been established that he can be effective. Just within the right system and I do not think our current system is designed for him to succeed so therefore in their eyes he wouldn't be a good option to keep. I did see why it was important to keep him on the roster this year. We were one injury away to having to use him.

NOT according to 3 or 4 fans here - they feel that he cannot play QB in the NFL

I'm not sure that he will do what it takes to be an effective NFL QB but I think that he will

I quoted that part above. He didn't say "definitely". It was a political "there could be" generic gm/coach speak answer.

Guessing Jay Gruden, the head coach of the Washington Redskins, is a hater too?

Do you selectively skim information that isn't favorable to Griffin? Gruden specifically said in the post season presser that he thinks Robert can succeed "wherever he goes". He's done with this team.

When? 2012? He's yet to remain healthy for an entire season. He's looked like hot garbage when he was healthy in 2014. He looked horrid for parts of 2013. He's regressed.

If he can't stay healthy, he cannot be effective. He's yet to show that he can be effective for an entire season.

you continue with this - please explain why a franchise would pay Robert millions to play QB - what do they know that you do not?

I thought that was the excuse for his poor play? He rushed back from injury and wasn't fully healthy. At least that was the narrative at the time.

Considerably easier to stay healthy for a full season when you only play 13 games.

Shanahan said he had discussed his decision with Snyder and General Manager Bruce Allen. He reiterated he was sitting his star quarterback down to avoid the possibility of him getting hurt following a run of five games in which he has been sacked repeatedly.

Good grief I hope GMSM gets this Cousins deal done soon so we can all move on. Pretty sure we've reached peak stupid in this discussion.

there's no doubt about Robert's failure to play up to expectations here but there's also no doubt about the hate that some here have for him

and there's nobody with any sense at all claiming that Robert is finished as a QB in the NFL .... oh wait

and so it goes ....

OK rigofan - I'm done - I think that Robert will show that he can help a franchise with his play at QB and some here obviously disagree ...

I'm sure they will let me know how hopeless he is when he fails ... again
