Super Bowl I will be re-aired on January 15.

The telecast of Super Bowl I, a broadcasting artifact, will be unveiled for the first time since its original airing thanks to the NFL Network.

The network will broadcast "Super Bowl I: The Lost Game," a restitching of the inaugural Super Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
It will air January 15, weeks before Super Bowl 50 will be played.

A tape of the game, which was televised by both NBC and CBS in 1967, has become a relic with tapes becoming either lost or erased.

According to the NFL, this reassembled version represents the "only known video footage of the entire action from Super Bowl 1."

"In an exhaustive process that took months to complete, NFL Films searched its enormous archives of footage and were able to locate all 145 plays from Super Bowl I from more than a couple dozen disparate sources," the league said in a statement. "Once all the plays were located, NFL Films was able to put the plays in order and stitch them together while fully restoring, re-mastering, and color correcting the footage."

The nearly 50-year-old game will have a bit of a new age feel to it with it getting modern broadcast graphics and even social media interaction.

In addition to the game, NFL will include features such as sound from legendary Packers coach Vince Lombardi and discussion on how the broadcast of Super Bowl I was lost and ultimately re-assembled.

It will also include analysis from NFL Network's Chris Rose, Steve Mariucci, and Terrell Davis, as well former Packer stars from the era like Jerry Kramer and Dave Robinson, who both played in the game.

There is another tape that has game footage from Super Bowl I, but it is locked in a vault at the Paley Center for Media. That version was found in an attic by a man in Pennsylvania in 2005.

Steve Harwood, an attorney for the man who found the tape and wishes to stay anonymous, said that the NFL, which holds the copyright on the game and the man who made the discovery couldn't come to terms over compensation for the tape.

The timing of the NFL Network re-airing is noteworthy seeing that the NFL is celebrating and holding Super Bowl 50 next month.

That first Super Bowl, which was played in Los Angeles, was won by the Packers 35-10.

Meanwhile, the NFL can provide $300 Million to a Billionaire, so that he can make more money... Monkey

After watching this game I gotta tell ya - Len Dawson reminds me a lot of Eli Manning and Bart Starr reminds me a lot of Kirk Cousins.

As best I remember, Lombardi held a press conference after SB 1. He smacked a football a couple of times, then started: "Before you ask...yeah...four or five teams in our league could have beaten them. Any other questions?"

I believe he took back that comment. He was just giving them what they wanted to hear.

Don't know about that... but at the time he stated it... it was clearly the truth.

Not so sure about THAT. I know it was three Super Bowls later but pretty much the same team dominated the Vikings.

When asked to assess the Chiefs Lombardy said "They've got great speed." Pressed further he added, "I don't think they are as good as the top teams in the National Football League. They're a good team with fine speed but I'd have to say NFL football is tougher. Dallas is a better team, and so are several others." As silence surrounded him and writers scribbled furiously in their notebooks, a peeved Lombardy added, "That's what you've wanted me to say - now I've said it. But I don't want to get into that kind of comparison."

Heading into the game Lombardy was extremely concerned and remained so at half time.

The Chiefs probably had more size, more speed, and a more complex defense not to mention offense than pretty much every team in the NFL. The Packers probably had the best coach in NFL history.

The Packers were under tremendous pressure that day and more than anyone else Vince Lombardy was under the greatest pressure of all. It is possible that the Packers were the only team in the NFL that could have survived that pressure on that day.

It is a matter of conjecture and something that no one will ever know.

Super Bowl 50 Redskins connections:

Graham Ga-No Good off the upright, then a guy wearing a Kerrigan jersey in the front row on the Broncos FG next possession.

Polumbus frequently spotted on DEN sideline.

Mario Addison, Defensive End
The former Troy standout played five games with the Redskins in 2012 after being signed off of the Colts’ practice squad. The Panthers signed Addison off the Redskins’ practice squad toward the end of that season. He has 15 sacks for Carolina over the last three years.

Ray Brown, Assistant Offensive Line Coach
Brown, an offensive lineman for the Redskins 1989-95 and again 2004-05, was a special assistant with Washington in 2006. He joined the Panthers’ staff in 2011.

Donnie Warren, Scout
Warren won three Super Bowls with the Redskins and served as a scout for the team 2005-09. He’s been a pro scout for the Panthers since 2010. One of Bobby Beathard’s sons, Jeff, is also a Panthers scout. Yet another Panthers scout, Mike Szabo, previously worked for the Redskins.
