They're calling it a resignation, but you know Mara fired him. That's 2 out of 3, and as Meatloaf said, that ain't bad.

It's a damned shame... there was entertainment value in his perpetually lost expressions.

I thought this was a mistake, with Eli only having 3 or 4 years left you’re going to head in a different direction?? (Unless they hire McAdoo). I would have just let it play out with Coughlin and Manning.

I'm pretty sure Coughlin figured it was only going to get worse and wanted no part of it. The Giants went 6-10 in a bad division with all their pieces in place. The Cowboys may have had a worse record but they also had an excuse. The Giants have none. They were worse than a team who fired its head coach before the season ended.

Hopefully they keep their GM ....

did you see Coughlin give Mara the treatment? Mara got up as Coughlin came off the stage and Coughlin just walked right by him

Hated him as coach of the Giants. However, watching his press conference I can see why so many like him. If he had been in our organization, I'm sure we would have found things to like. The best part of his press conference today, though, was when he walked right past Mara without shaking his hand. Diss this, baby. :D

I may not feel sorry for the Giants over this move, but I damn sure believe
Klink is making this way more than it should be!! let's look at the facts - in
12 seasons with the Giants Coughlin has done the following

* twice won the super bowl

* gotten to coach Eli through his entire career pretty much

* has become the only "coach" who can say he is better
than the great new england (god) Belichick

division titles, playoffs, winning seasons aside for a moment
if you look at his time in Jacksonville. He sucked, and now he
walks away with a resume that makes owners drool with great
anticipation as to how they can find a way to get rid of their
current head coaches just so they can sign this guy as theirs?

Philly cans Kelly, Jerruh says Garretts job is safe (lie) you can't
tell me these two possible destinations are not on Coughlin's list
especially since he knows this would be a great way for him to
stick it to the Giants twice a year and add possible some more
titles to that already over crowded resume he currently has?

Please! They were ready to run him and Sheli out of town on a rail, when they went on a late season run, got very favorable matchups in the playoffs, and played against the 18-0 Patriots in the SB. He led the Ginas to 5 playoff appearances in 12 years, and none the last 4. The NFL Network is totally stroking him up right now, and it's making me :puke:

Of course they were everyone had bet the farm they were done, Coughlin and his transgender child at QB would
be sent packing and NY would get to start the process of rebuilding again..and then he managed to beat the Pats
and suddenly the NY media who openly criticized Coughlin started loving him and Eli

so it goes to show you just how fickle the media is? you're only as good as they want to hype
you and if you step out of line?? well look out!!! we have the power to manipulate not just the
rich and powerful to where it effect's change in the front office..but also in public perception
where we have the power to turn the ordinary citizen into a rabid animal capable of doing
what we tell them we want done to you

This is why? I have conveyed in other threads about not believing what the media says to
you..90% of what they say are lies, straight out of the handlers mouth, into theirs and
ultimately into your living rooms whenever you watch the news, sports center or any other
controlled form of media

That's not going to happen!! Jerruh has his lapdog Garrett who he is proudly kicking
around as we speak, my guess is? Coughlin ends up back in the AFC perhaps Pittsburgh
since the rumors are that Tomlin is out

Coughlin's success at Boston College led to his subsequent hiring as the first head coach of the NFL's expansion Jacksonville Jaguars. In eight seasons at Jacksonville, he helmed the most successful expansion team in league history. During Coughlin's tenure, the Jaguars made four consecutive playoff appearances and went to the AFC Championship Game twice. The first time, in only the second year of the team's existence (1996), the Jaguars qualified for the playoffs on the last day of the season and upset the heavily-favored Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos on the road. He was named NFL Coach of the Year by United Press International. Coughlin would again take the Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game in 1999 after achieving a league-high 14–2 regular season record; the 14 wins stood as the most won by the current wave of expansion teams (the Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans) until the Panthers surpassed it in 2015. However, in both appearances in the championship game, the Jaguars were defeated: in 1996 by the New England Patriots, and in 1999, by the Tennessee Titans.

Coughlin's Jaguars won 49 regular season games in his first five years as head coach, a remarkable average for an expansion team of nearly ten wins per year. But the Jaguars' record for the next three years was only 19–29, and after a 6–10 finish in 2002, Coughlin was fired by owner Wayne Weaver. He finished his eight-year career in Jacksonville with a 68–60 regular season record and a 4–4 playoff record.

In 2011 (after selling the Jaguars to Shahid Khan) Weaver said when looking back on his tenure as owner, one of his biggest regrets was firing Coughlin.

I always respected Coughlin as a pretty good coach and I think that's one of the reasons I never really hated the Giants like I did the other two teams. To me he was always a top 5 guy since he's been in NY. Problem with them now is general manager in a slump the past few years.

there are many reasons to not like the giants - John Mara tops the list of a holes and then you have the beady-eyed, whiner of a HC, Coughlin and to cap it off your have Sheli as the QB ... and that's just the top 3 reasons

+1,000
For me, right now, in order of hate level:
1. Ginas
2. Pies
3. Smeagols

So you hate them in terms of the fact, Mara doesn't interfere, has a 2 time winning QB in Sheli
yes I said Sheli and Coughlin (Klink) who you didn't want winning anything and liked him better
when he was coaching losers went from zero to a top rated coach, while you went through the
miserable years of Norval, Marty, Gibbs, Spurrier, Gruden and ole Danny boy who insists on
running his organization like his good friend (Satan) aka Jerruh

does that sound about right? I thought it did ok moving right along now

He interferes plenty?? Jerry Reese is their general manager which means he'd have to be the world's
biggest screw up in terms of not knowing a damn thing when it comes to football, in order for you to
be even remotely close on this 1?

sorry not buying that Mara is as idiotic as Jerruh and Danny his sideshow Bob when it comes to
being an owner

I have paid attention lots of attention but until you can actually prove that Mara meddles
there is no real substance to this, other than? assumption at least we know with Snyder
and Jerruh they do stick their noses into the situation too much...but I don't see Mara
being anything like those 2 at all

his father knew how to run a business and so I am sure his son has taking up the mantle
of where his father's legacy has left off
