Riley Out

Post by riggofan »

Redskins defense takes another hit with Perry Riley out 3-6 weeks
http://www.scout.com/nfl/redskins/story ... and-beyond

Breaking Burgundy @breakburgundy

Rough news with ILB Perry Riley. Out 3-6 weeks. Broken bone in right foot requires surgery. Mason Foster likely starter with Will Compton.

Defense stretched thin as it is. Not good news.

HolySmokes, broken bone? Did it happen against the Giants? Foster to start? he impressed me during preseason, he played well in the last couple games and made some key plays. He is still a rookie and this isn't the time to have OJT for rookies. I'll wager Scott is burning up the telephone looking to sign somebody short term.

Foster isn't a rookie. He started for something like four years with Tampa. 3d round pick in 2011. "Made first NFL start at middle linebacker at Minnesota (9/18/11) and recorded a team-high 13 tackles, including one for loss, and his first career sack and forced fumble." Looks like McCloughan was pretty wise to bring him in off the street back in October. Hope he's ready to go!!!

My only concern is that Tampa let him go because he didn't fit in well with Lovie Smith's defense. They wanted him to drop into coverage more which wasn't a strong suit.

OK, thanks for the correction. I was questioning myself if it was the rookie I was thinking of. Coverage isn't Rileys' strong suit either but it must have been better than Fosters'.

you bet! Yeah I was kind of surprised when I looked into him yesterday. Glad to see he is still young and had legit starting experience.

The coverage thing is a concern though. Like you pointed out its one of the big knocks on Riley.
