On further review: vs the Panthers

So I'm going to assume most of us saw the beat down the Panthers delivered to the Cowboys for Thanksgiving. Anybody else have a slightly different perspective on our loss to the Panthers now?
33 - 14
Romo 3 INTS, 11/21 for 106 yds no TDS
Cowboys Rushing 14 carries for 31 yards
Not that it makes our loss any more enjoyable, but I would suggest that our loss wasn't quite as horrible as we might have thought on Monday. The Cowboys' defense is much better than ours. The Panthers are really good.
Good Thanksgiving for the NFC East yeah? Eagles and Cowboys spanked? Damn. If we can just take care of business this Sunday, December could be really interesting.

Did anyone notice the hit to Whitten that #20 put on his head on Keuche's second interception? That was worse than Culliver's hit last Sunday, but earned no flag. That pissed me off.
Glad that the Panthers beat the Cowboys. Glad the Iggles are a Chip Wreck. I realize our Skins aren't where they need to be....yet. However, if we had consistent calls from the refs across the games our growing team would be much better off. Anyone remember Jordan Reid's holding call in the first Giants game that nullified Chris Thompson's long gain? Get used to more of that on Sunday.

I'd agree .. but I have a "slightly different perspective" after that game - more than anything it's because the pukes played so badly
I do think the Panthers are very good and we most likely lose the game last Sunday anyway but we certainly can play a lot better than we did
great for the Redskins that the eagles and pukes failed so spectacularly in yesterday's games but for a few weeks now it has seemed to me that we're in control of our own destiny in this division - not because we're a good unit yet, we're not - the other guys in this division are so hopeless
we win the games we should and we play to the level we're capable of = we win the NFC East
its really simple, we are a better group than the giants but if we play badly, we lose - we do not need to do anything special because these 3 teams are not playing very well - there are teams that find ways to lose games, we know that, first hand - we just need to not make mistakes
gotta love it

Giants nearly beat the Patriots two weeks ago and are coming off a BYE week. They're not perfect, but I'm pretty sure they're the best team in the NFC east right now for whatever that is worth. Not to mention they've beats us something like the last 14 of 18 games.

Yes, I saw the hit and wondered where the flag was. I thought officiating was pretty bad, how about the 'reception' that wasn't a fumble? Or the announcers commenting the officials must feel the Cowboys needed some help.

there's no doubt in my mind that the Redskins have not had many calls go their way
however - our players need to eliminate stupid penalties

I actually felt like we were right there with them until that huge blown call on the pick six. That really took the wind out of our sails, and we never recovered.

They've been getting progressively better as the season has aged, though. Had we played them in week one it would have been a much closer matchup, IMO.

Yeah, I really don't like our "rivalry" with the Giants right now. I don't think I've ever felt confident going into a game against them.
Plus, Odell Beckham has our number.

Don't leave Merriweather out of your calculations either.

The only team that is worse than the giants in total defense is the saints ... the giants are the 32nd ranked passing defense in the NFL ...
after 10 games the giants suck defensively - Kirk Cousins should have a huge day
all of the NFC East teams are good at finding ways to lose and they are all really bad at finding ways to win
this Sunday's game will be won by the group of players that want to win more
in recent matches against the giants, we've often been the better team but we have been out coached, out played or not tried hard enough
we just need to show up and play well - this giants' squad sucks, big time
5-6 and playing the pukes on Monday night football in DC as the NFC East champs - gotta love it

I agree - if that happens again, I hope these guys make a better effort

It's impossible to speculate but based upon the way we played on opening weekend I'm not confident we'd have done any better in the final outcome. I've long since conceded we're not a good team yet. Scot McCloughan will get us there if he's given enough time. I'm just not sure we can even see the top half of the measuring stick right now if we're using the Carolinas and New Englands of the league as the measuring stick. I'd expect two-thirds of the current roster to be different in the next two years.

I looked at that list, just not seeing it. They've beat just about everyone they played by two scores this season.

This is just the problem with stats, especially stats like "team defense". Did anybody else watch Pats v. Giants two weeks ago? They knocked Brady on his ass repeatedly. Final score was 27-26 if you missed it which you apparently did.
Kirk Cousins should have a huge day. Give me a freaking break.

wrong, I watch all the Pats games ... and, you're being selective again
these stats are based on 10 games - the pats were not the same offensively as they have been
If Kirk does not have a huge day against this giants D, somebody has done a bad job getting him ready or he does not play as well as he can

The 44 points scored and the 28 point margin of victory against the Redskins were both their biggest numbers versus any team this season. The nine 1st downs, 14 rushing yards, and 186 total yards allowed were their best defensive numbers of the season. The five turnovers were tied for the most forced in a single game.
As much as I loathe Dallas I can't in good conscience say they lost worse than we did. We got forcibly raped and pretended to enjoy it. It was embarrassing.

^^ what he said - we got out coached and out played - it was just not a good effort on our part ...
I will agree that the terrible call was deflating to say the least but we really seemed to not even try to play well after that

I know that it's the giants and they are a nemesis for us, but ...
this is not the same old giants and they are very vulnerable to a decent passing game - we really need to run the ball and use the clock well
it would be very disappointing not to play well here - the only way we lose is if we do not play with a lot of emotion

I completely disagree. I had to listen to the complete recap of that Skins/Panthers game on 980 this morning. We were actually in the game through the entire first half. The first quarter was 14-14. That crazy penalty happens near the end of the second quarter and the wheels started to come off the wagon. We had a chance to stay in the game to start the second half, but we immediately turn the ball over in our own red zone and the game becomes the rout you described.
Dallas scored 3 points the entire first half. It was 26-3 at half. There wasn't a point where that game was close.
I would agree that our loss may have been worse because of how we lost it. We didn't respond to adversity at all and let it become a rout.
My original point though was that the Panthers are very very good.

Honestly, the Giants always just come out and out physical us. This stuff about their vulnerabilities or whatever almost doesn't matter. They always come out and beat the snot out of us physically. We need to man up and set the tone at home.

From what I could tell, we were the ones doing the beating yesterday. I loved our physicality.

Me too, man. That was exactly what we needed to do. The Giants always push us around, but not yesterday.
Give Gruden some credit too. He wasn't out there being Mr. Gregarious this weekend either. From what I've read and heard he was really pissed about the Panthers loss and it was a tough week of practice. Need to keep that tone going forward.
