They keep saying on the radio that he may start on Sunday? Seems crazy to me. And what would it say about LeRib that a guy who hasn't played in a year and has been on the team for three days is a better option?

Gruden said that LeRibeus had done “a fine job” taking over for Lichtensteiger but noted that his snaps were “a little awry.”

That was an issue in Sunday’s 27-10 loss at New England, where LeRibeus sprayed several shotgun snaps and botched a snap count that led to the Patriots’ lone sack of Kirk Cousins, which was initially blamed on right tackle Morgan Moses.

“He has done a pretty good job for being a first-time center,” Gruden said of LeRibeus. “We’re not giving up on Josh, but we just want to have more consistent snaps for the shotgun. Doesn’t say that Josh is going to go to second team. It doesn’t mean that de la Puente is going to start. We’ve just got to get another guy in there with more proven experience at the center position.”

LeRibeus was awful on some of those snaps. Definitely need a true "center" since Lich is out for the year.

'In Scot we trust' is my motto since Hopkins showed up between games. De la Puente has some good creds, I just wonder why he isn't playing - I wonder the same about Hopkins too.

New Orleans Saints (2010–13)

De la Puente was signed to the Saints practice squad on October 15, 2010, and spent the rest of the season there.

In 2011, Saints starting center Jonathan Goodwin left to join the San Francisco 49ers, and the Saints signed longtime Chicago Bears star Olin Kreutz to replace him. De la Puente filled in effectively when Kreutz was injured early in the season, then found himself as the starter when Kreutz unexpectedly decided to retire in mid-season. De la Puente continued to play well as the Saints set offensive records for the season[16] and the offensive line won its second Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award in three years.

De la Puente continued to hold the starting center position through the 2012 season. In its 2012 season-end review, Pro Football Focus, calling de la Puente "the least well known player on the line", rated him as the team's highest-performing lineman in 2012.[17]

A restricted free agent after the 2012 season, on April 9, 2013, de la Puente signed the Saints' one-year tender. He was paid $2.023 million for the 2013 season.[18] He started 16 games for the second season in a row.[19]

Over the three seasons De La Puente started for the Saints, he received grades of +6.1 (2013), +23.0 (2012), and +6.1 (2011) from Pro Football Focus.[20]

The New York Daily News reported that the Giants indicated interest in him in March 2014.[19][21]

De la Puente was signed to a one-year deal by the Chicago Bears on April 6, 2014.[22] De la Puente was placed on injured reserve on November 26 due to an ankle injury.[23]
