Pats Postgame - The Aftermath

I disagree with those who say we were not up for the game. We may have been too jacked - especially at the skill positions other than QB.

Our game plan looked excellent to me and, except for butterfingers, was well executed.

We turned Gronk into Heath Miller. We challenged the small receivers and offered Brady little more than deep stuff to them. He actually simply chucked the ball down the middle of the field more than once while being hit. We turned them over what, twice? In light of the fact that our offense did NOTHING, the defense was pretty darn good. Yeah, they ran on us, but not roughshod. Can you imagine what would have happened if we had stacked the box and dared them to throw?

On offense we showed a lot of two-tight-end early and burned them repeatedly by throwing against their base defense ... except that we didn't burn them ... solely due to butterfingers. We gashed them on our FIRST PLAY with Garcon streaking across the middle having split defenders. The ball was perfectly thrown ... and stone cold dropped. Huge play down the drain. Later we run a play to Carrier no one (not even Belicheat) had seen on tape, Kirk hit him in the bread basket behind McCourty, and again ... stone cold drop.

Monkey me !

But for 8 drops (some say 7), Kirk was 28 for 40 = 70%. If we catch these balls and actually burn their base while in two-tight-end sets, they might move to nickel and then, guess what ... we can run !

We probably were not going to win almost no matter what but the plan was good and so was the execution ... but for butterfingers. I really counted only 3 bad balls by Kirk. He missed an in, an out, and a flag pattern to DJax who was behind two guys. Probably good for 30 ... if he holds on to it.

My 2 cents

I think the players were just trying to be too perfect, which resulted in the miscues and drops. They were probably told all week to not make mistakes and when you are told that continually guess what happens? Mistakes are made.

Yes. I can see it now. Carrier is in the huddle and hears "HIS" play called. He's 90% sure he'll be wide open. He gets excited. It unfolds exactly as practiced and hoped for. The ball is on it's way and he thinks (I've been there) "Please don't drop this." Then he does.

"Too jacked" = "not ready to play". Period. A "ready to play" team takes care of business.

the Redskins just did not play with much intensity ... we're not a good team by any stretch but we're better than what we showed last Sunday

I watched the corner, Culliver and I think we've got a problem there. His play was inconsistant and he failed to commit himself. He did make some good plays and I understand why he is playing but I see NO going to work on him. I wonder what will happen if DH is able to play.

He's been injured for a few weeks now obviously. It definitely showed last week. Hopefully he's in better shape v. Brees.
