The Redskins can beat the Patriots by playing better than they are capable of and having the Patriots play badly

it's possible but highly unlikely - put another way, it's more likely the Redskins change their name

I'm just hoping the Redskins play a competitive game, cut down on penalties and not turn the ball over - winning this game would be a miracle

How do you play better than you're capable of? #-o That's oxymoronic. :D

I saw some stuff on the local Fox news about how unlikely it is for us to win this game. The Vegas odds are ludicrous. They pointed out something like 136 experts had picked the game and 0 of them picked the Skins or whatever. I don't like the defeatism though even if it is unlikely. So here are my two ideas to possibly winning this game:

1) Time of possession. We KILLED at keeping the ball those first few games. Cousins has been pretty good on third downs. Do whatever we have to do to sustain long drives that keep Brady off the field.

2) Short passing game. The weakness of the Pats' D is the cornerbacks. I'll tell you from being in Boston this summer that my friends up there were distraught about the state of the DBs especially after losing Revis. If we can't run the ball, then lots of short passes to Garcon, Crowder and Reed to keep drives going.

I’m clinging to the fact that Spurrier beat them…so anything is possible right??

 exactly - it's not possible to play better than you're capable of and it's not possible that the Patriots can play badly enough to lose

the only way we could end up winning is if we can play well, keep the score close and for the Patriots to absolutely suck on defense

but, it's just not possible

Yes, anything is possible. After all, we're the team that gave Dallas its only win of the season once upon a time. But to sit here speculating about what it will take to win is silly since all it will take is to score more points than New England.

as Brady has said - "maybe, on one play a year, the defense will do something different than I expected after the snap ..."

this is the best QB to ever play in the NFL who is playing better than he ever has - this is the best TE to ever play in the NFL who is ....

Score more points that they do.

Brady - arguable
Gronk - a long way to go before that can even become an argument.

I'd be bring both Compton and Ross into the mix on 2nd down, I'd also go deep. Most of my plays would be playaction, the run game only for short yardage. Let Cousins earn his keep. I see the defense all over Brady and a low scoring game with Hopkins kicking the winning field goal. If we knock Brady out of his comfort zone he gets frustrated and loses it, his comfort zone is Gronk. I think our corners will shutdown the recievers, maybe plant the FS on Gronk and keep an LB inside for good measure like a doubleteam.

:hmm:
The purpose of play action is to freeze the linebackers and safeties. In the universe where I watch football, play action without a respectable running game only works in one of four circumstances... Your offense is so good that it doesn't matter what plays you run... The coach of the opposing team is an idiot... the defensive players on the opposing team are incapable of covering a reasonably competent receiver... or a combination of the second two.

It's not happening.
Our offense is not capable of dictating to defenses... and the Patriots know something about defensive game planning. Their choice here is obvious. The Patriots know that our run game is struggling. They know that they have a decent run d. They will focus on stopping the pass, and forcing us to move the ball on the ground... and they will not commit more players to the run until we prove they need to. Only when the run game is picking up yards at 4 per play, will they move more into the box... and begin keying on run first.

IF that happens, play action becomes available. Otherwise, as far as the Patriots are concerned, every play is a pass until proven otherwise.
The only way for our team to have a shot is via a low scoring affair, in which the offense protects the defense through long, time consuming drives and controls the clock. The run game and a ball control passing game are the key to any shot at a win. The defense must then frustrate Brady, force a few 3 and outs. and hit Brady often. Brady must be on the bench most of the game. Brady cannot impact a game if he is not on the field.

If this does not happen... good night.

A lead of less than 15 going into the final 5 minutes will not be safe.

This will be a long game for the good guys. I am ready to be surprised. I like surprises.

Expect the worst... anything else becomes a win! LOL

In a game where keeping Brady on the bench is probably the key, having an explosive playmaking receiver is, ironically, not necessarily an advantage. Critical that the skins control the clock. That means boring, methodical, mechanical... Deseans talent is most useful when we become desperate in this game... so, in that light, you may be right. There is a strong chance we become desperate early!

I agree 'trey - in order to have a chance here we have to be able to prove that we can run the ball - we have not shown that we have a good passing game and in order to even bother these guys we have to be able to get a run game going - we also need to take as much time off the clock as we can

The fans & media up here are not concerned about winning, they just want the Patriots to win by more than 15

This this this this this. You pretty much have to accept that every time you punt, the Pats are going to score. So you had better control the clock and keep the ball as much as possible and try to limit a couple of those scores to FGs.

Too many three and outs or god forbid turnovers, and we are toast.

Damn I'm bummed this is our game coming back from the BYE. Otherwise looking forward to the team getting back on the field!

If I'm the Skins I go for broke...
Speed the clock up by keeping it moving i.e. run the ball.
You have to steal 1 or 2 possessions…fake punt, onside kick
Go for it on 4th downs. (pick your spots to do so)
Bottom line be as unconventional as you can!!
Of course none of this will happen, coaches (outside of few sucure ones) fear to much for their jobs to do it.

That's a great point, man. Nobody expects us to win. All of the talk on the radio this week has been about "What do the Skins have to do so you won't be disappointed when they lose?" haha.

I like your approach. Go for it on every fourth down. Onside kick to start the game. Let RG3 return punts. Dial up Jim Zorn's swinging gate play. Twice. :D

Run and stop the run. That would be unconventional for this team. 8-[
