The Pats are playing this evening, who should I be watching and why? These are the guys we have to beat next week and I'm watching to see what and how they do things tonite so when we play them I'll have a deeper appreciation of what is going on. Who should I be watching?

Gronkowski, all game long. He's the one player that any team wanting to beat the Patriots has to contain.

There's a guy named Tom Brady I hear is doing OK this year. I also have been told they have a decent TE.

Other than that it's a team effort:
- Their RBs are also averaging nearly 5 ypc. Ironically, our opponents average the same against us.
- NE is 5th in the NFL in passing yards and ypa. They are 1st in the NFL in passing TDs and 2nd in passing ypg.
- They #1 in the NFL (by an astounding 4% points) in 3rd down conversions.
- They are 25th in OFF penalties assessed (#1 being the worst).
- Jones is tied for the NFL lead in sacks. They have 3 players in the AFC top 10 in sacks this year. As a team they are 4th in the league in sacks.
- NE is 4th in TO differnential
- Outside of Sheard and Solder they have no impact injuries.

Only that since NE averages the same ypc as we give up --- from a pure statistical standpoint, a NE RB 4.9 ypc is what we have to look forward in the game.

When I said "impact", I meant from players that are real contributors. NE has a bunch of other injured players, they just aren't starters or players NE counts on for on-field production. And their starting C has been injured, but is projected to return for us. Obviously all this could change against MIA.

Not true. We are near the bottom in yds allowed/attempt. They are near the top in yds. gained/attempt.

Remember, there #'s reflect games against good & bad teams. I don't know the #s, but my guess is that their average opponent has a better run D than we do. Comparable for our run D.

Any teams getting to Brady? Or is he just sitting back and studying the field? Seemed to me Gronk get the benefit of the doubt in what otherwise would be a 'pick' but I haven't watched every game (it'd nice if he came down with the flu next week).

Tom Brady recently said that he might be mistaken about what the defense does after the snap but it is such a rare occurrence, that he cannot remember the last time it happened - he is absolutely amazing - he's certainly not perfect but he's very, very good

I cannot see any team going 16-0 but these guys will be close ...

for us it's not so much about winning the game, it's more about playing well and not turning the ball over

I know fans are going to continue to focus on Cousins, but to me this is the biggest question of the game and the second half of the season. We can't run the ball, and we can't stop the run. Better hope they can figure it out over the bye week.

52-7 against Belichick and an undefeated Patriots team a few years back. Right, Coach Joe?

I think the Jets got to him a few times too but I can't in good conscience put our pass rush on par with either of those teams. Brady doesn't need much time and he'll have plenty unless Joe Barry has something up his sleeve we haven't seen yet.

The Patriots are almost unbeatable at home and are 72-0 at home when leading at the half

Definitely hoping the Pats win. Needs to be a close one with lots of emotion exerted. If the Fins beat them, they will be ANGRY next week, and we don't want to face that team angry. Brady has enough fuel with the Deflategate stuff. We need them to have an emotional let down next week, which probably won't happen anyway with Bill and co.

Miami is a division rival and they have a pretty good record against the Pats, all things considered. It will probably be a close game regardless of how much better the Pats look on paper.

This is the biggest mismatch the Skins will face this season by far. I don't expect a win or even a close game but I want to see in order of importance; no injuries, 4 QTRS of solid, smart effort, limited penalties and Kirk staying within himself and shaking off any mistakes he or his teammates make. If they play a solid game on the road against the best in the league maybe it will help them win a couple of more favorable match ups down the road.

After the Pats the only game that looks like a mismatch is the Panthers. You never know but those two look too tough. But that leaves 7 games against the Saints, Bears, Bills, Giants, Cowboys twice and the Eagles in Philly that they have a chance against. Hopefully Jackson can come back strong after the Pats game and the Skins can get a run going down the stretch.

I absolutely disagree about your conclusion that "they aren't great". This may well be the most consistently good team in the history of the game... The kind of consistency that makes greatness. You do not have to like them, but, you'd better damned well respect them.

The only thing that matters when watching, what effective techniques, tactics and strategies are used by opponents... How the heck do yo rattle Brady? Who can stop Gronk?

Early in the 1st quarter, Miami offense stacked all the receivers on the left, Tannenbaum kept the ball and tried to run right and there were about 3 Pats waiting for him. They knew the play, how did they know that?

They are incredibly well coached, and they execute. He puts his people in situations where they're never surprised by what they see.

It's ridiculous. Plus having a QB like Brady on offense....

We're going to get steamrolled. I just hope for Cousins's sake he doesn't crap the bed and ruin his confidence, because Belichek knows exactly how to gameplan against a QB's weaknesses. We just have to hope that Gruden comes up with an innovative way to protect his quarterback.

However, when it comes to the chess match of Gruden vs. Belichek...well, that's really not much of a chess match, is it?

If Cousins doesn't throw any INTs and Gruden gives a good halftime pep talk, I'm sure we'll do just fine next weekend.
