run/pass what's up?

Frustrating to see the team so ineffective in the running game again yesterday.
I was always under the impression that pass blocking was more difficult than run blocking. Is that true? The line has seemed to be pretty good this season at pass blocking, so why can't we run the ball? Is it the line? Scheme? Morris? What's going on?

Hard to say from yesterday’s game because we got down early and had to play catchup all game. The problems started when Lauvao got hurt, couple that with the other injuries and you could say they’re been a lack of continuity. I just think it’s a combination of injuries, other team scheming to stop the run, and a lack of commitment to the running game for whatever reason. I think the fact that we saw the return of the RO yesterday speaks to the issues we are having in the run game.

Honestly, our OFF is easy to scheme against. In the beginning of the year we had a strong run game and have 2 very good RBs. Kirk has a tendency to throw passes in the 1-10 yard range. We have 0 downfield threat with Jackson out. Our OL is not very good and can't give Kirk the time he needs to ID downfield WRs.
Take all those things into consideration and you won't see opposing DEFs respecting the big play. They can comfortably stack the line or load the DEF personnell with extra LBs to replace would-be DBs. Until we are able to show teams we can convert bigplays, this will continue.
Pass pro also looks good because Kirk gets the ball out quick and Gruden schemes for those types of quick-passing plays --- which I believe is because he knows our OL is weak.
I also think Gruden needs to run stretch-type run plays where our RB is running outside the tackle, allowing Morris/Jones to get some steam. The run up the gut plays don't allow our RBs to do what they do best.

Good points. Morris ran for five yards on six carries yesterday. Mind blowing.

Jones just looked better than Morris yesterday. You could see the difference instantly. Although Jones didn't rack up the yardage (I think this was due to the fact that we were down so much and needed to pass more), he was still just a breath of fresh air. He needs to get the bulk of the carries going forward. Which sucks, because I love Alfred.

Me too. I don't want to knock that guy at all if its not his fault. But no doubt that Jones looked way more effective yesterday for whatever reason.
