Coaching for his job this week against Tampa?

I think the moment Gruden pulls Cousins, or Cousins loses his job, then Gruden will be gone by years end.

I would say "Yes" until I ask who would replace him. What would be the point of replacing one lame duck with another one?

I don't think that we're going to see a coaching change (or a QB change) until it is really clear that the franchise will be much better off for it

Gruden and many of the players and coaches are being given a huge opportunity to be a part of Scot's group going forward but we all understand that is not a short term deal - it's going to take a lot longer that 1 draft and 1 season to make good the damage that Snyder caused

Callahan IMO would replace him....not sure he'd be given an opportunity to stay the HC but if he won who knows???

I don't think we will go the interim route, even if we don't win another game. I don't think Scot would make a mid-year change. The day after game 16 is another story...

I wouldn't care to see Callahan replace Gruden. We'd lose one hell of an offensive line coach (did anyone notice not only Ty Nsekhe but even Josh "Where's the food?" LeRibeus played well against a great defensive line?). And there's no history to indicate Callahan would be any better a head coach than Gruden. He's never been more than an Offensive Coordinator with a really awful Raiders team. There's not much to go on.

He was a HC... took OAK to the SB.

I think it has clearly been proven. I hope Gruden will not be here next year and neither will Cousins.

That's another discussion entirely. He took Gruden's Raiders team with Gruden's playbook to a Super Bowl where he lost to Tampa Bay, coached by ... Gruden.

I'd agree that both Gruden and Captain Pick have shown V little ... but IMO the franchise is better off not making big time changes at this time

I don't think next week is a win or you're gone situation. If you had given me a napkin in August, I would have literally had us at 2-4 right now. Most had us between 3-13 to 6-10 on the season. We have a ton of injuries and not much talent. That is a recipe for failure.

At the beginning of the year, people wanted us to "be in games". I think that has been the case --- except for the NYs. We are in the hardest stretch of our schedule. I had said after the PHI win that the next 4 we'll most likely be 1-3 with a record of 3-5. I have no clue why anyone with a brain would now say we should be better than that based on the talent we have on the field and facing who we have.

The "homer" -- i.e., us -- expected record was 8-8. We still have winnable games against TAM, NO, NYG, @CHI, @PHI, DAL.

Besides, we need to get away with the idiocy of Dan Snyder rules. Firing a coach mid-season is a CLEAR showing that Danny is in charge. REAL football guys understand that mid-season firings are idiotic and hurt the progress of any team. You move on at year end.

And Callahn is no prize as a HC. He has a 27-22 at Wisconsin & Nebraska --- that is basically a .500 record with powerhouse programs. He is a very good OL coach. Lets keep it that way and make him feel comfortable with this. I am beginning to wonder whether the deal to come here was "incentivised" with the possibility of him moving to OC at some point..... Regardless, this is where I go nuts when fans say that a random assistant coach (not even a coordinator) should be promoted to HC. That reminds me of "Danny rules". First off --- we have a HORRIBLE OC. McVay is a child and adds no value. If Gruden were smart, he'd fire or demote him and bring in a real OC (at the end of the year if he isn't fired). Personally, I think the reason he hired McVay is because he knew that if things got bad, there was no way Snyder would promote McVay ---- that is just my opinion.

That, or because he'd be a convenient scapegoat if things with the O went bad.

I don't think he get fired mid-season...I'll stick to my original predicition that if he doesn't play meaningful games in December, he's gone.

I can see a loss to Tampa and Gruden will be gone during the bye week. Remember how quick Forbath went? It'll be the same with Gruden, a surgical strike.

Gruden is not a good HEAD coach. From what I see of Cincinnati, he was expendable there, too.

Cousins? He's not long for the NFL either.

It's pretty amazing. You have 2 Heisman Trophy winners on your roster and still can't win games.

Yeah that's really amazing. Because Heisman Trophies are such a strong indicator of NFL success.

Fair point, but as a HC (or boss for that matter) --- it is all on you. It doesn't matter what your inferiors have done. If the product is bad, you're gone (in addition to your inferiors). I think most with a brain know that the best way to succeed is to hire the best.

Isn't that what the team tried to do when Snyder hired Shanahan?

OK, but Shanahan was not really in charge - let me rephrase that - Shanahan was not able to 'manage or control' the franchise the way he felt it should be managed

I don't think Gruden is in dire straits here unless Dan Snyder is still involved, in which case all bets are off

Fat Gruden is fired. It is just a matter of when. He'll get fired at the end of the year. But he is so incompetent it may be at the bye week.

Fire Gruden and let's see what RG3 can do.

The Bengals are doing great without Jay-whose offenses looked so overmatched in the playoffs year after year. In fact here is an article basically saying good riddance to JG from the players coached and team officials who knew him well.
