Reed exited Sunday's win over the Philadelphia Eagles with a concussion. Coach Jay Gruden said Monday the tight end is in concussion protocol while also dealing with a right knee MCL sprain.

This is going to be a bigger blow to the offense than DJax going down.

He's had way too many concussions in his career (dating back to college). I'm worried he may have to retire.

I think we need to move on from him as our primary TE option, honestly. He is a great talent but can't stay on the field --- so what's the use of having the talent. We need consistency here. He has literally gotten hurt in every season he has played. While unfortunate, you can't count on him to be healthy.

As the common saying goes, the best ability is availability. Such a disappointment.

Getting a top notch TE who can block and catch should be a 2016 draft priority along with a dominate CB and a deep threat receiver. I think the offense will be much improved when Jackson returns but we need another guy who has down the field speed and hopefully some size as well.

That's not how it works with McCloughan. Prepare to be disappointed in April but, later on, pleasantly surprised by the picks he made instead.

Some players' bodies just can't handle the game at the pro level. I wish the best for Reed but at this point I think it's unlikely he's going to be a viable long-term option for us.
Too bad. The kid has so much obvious talent, and he's been a beast for us so far this year. Oh well. Next man up!

Don’t forget Niles Paul was slated as the starter before he got hurt, not that Niles is better than Jordan but I think the Skins may have planned on cutting down his snaps by making him a situational player….I see no reason that can’t be an option going forward??

I still feel we need a whole lot next year --- not just a couple things here and there. Pot Roast is on a 1 year deal --- he could be gone next season and VERY difficult to replace. He is contributing much more than most think. We may need a DT as well as CB and DBs. Offensively we need a TE and OL depth. I think we are good at WR.
This all being said, the #1 thing we need above everything else --- is talent. Get that before everything else. I fully agree with Scot's best player approach. When you have talent on the field that can execute, it makes things much easier for the other players on the field.

I found that odd, honestly. Reed is by far the best TE on the roster. When healthy I consider him a top 10 TE in the NFL. On the other hand, I think Niles is merely OK. Fast forwarding to today, I would have been DEAD wrong --- because now we know that a simple hit can lead to a Reed concussion.
If I were Reed and knowing what other pro football players have gone thru from multiple concussions, I wouldn't take any more chances and retire (or be placed on a permanent type IR so that I take home my 2016 salary). 4 is too many and as he should see the next ones come even easier than the last. He is damaged goods at this point. He should have made nearly $3M in the NFL and his next contract won't be big enough to risk the potential permanent brain damage his next one could result in. But that is what I would do and easy for me to say --- I am educated and confident I could be successful off the football field. Reed would need to go back and finish his degree or return to school and actually get a degree that would land him a job (opposed to the majors most NFL players pursue while in college). For the NFL guys I know, this is their nightmare.

I think Reed is the better athlete, Niles may be a little better blocking which IMO is why he may have won the job, since Gruden wanted to rely on the run game while bringing Kirk along. No doubt Reed was going to play a major role in the offense, I just think they might have wanted to limit some of his reps because of his injury history??

While both are receiving TE's,they have much different games. Reed is better at making spectacular catches. Paul is better at stretching the field.

^^ I would think Reed is the one who could stretch the field…with his height and speed you can line him up wide…can’t do that with Niles.

Niles was a wide receiver before they converted him to tight end, so I think I understand the point. He's used to running receiver routes. And he blocks better. But there's no denying Reed is special when he's healthy, which is about four games a season.
