Did we whiff on Wade Phillips?

Joe B is sure to take a lot of heat for our poor D performance.

I am not sure whether we "whiffed" on Wade or he didn't want the job...... like many other defensive coordinators.

Looking back it was the general consensus here that Wade was a primary candidate and a good one (he was my #1 candidate without question) ---- which when you take into consideration the timing of his interview here and the hiring in DEN, Wade most likely turned us down...... like many other DEF candidates..... which is why we ended up with a DC that basically no other team in the NFL would hire as a DC.

Quality coaches aren't stupid and they've wised up. They know Danny boy is the worst boss in the NFL. His track record for hirings/firings is unparalleled. As long as Danny is the owner, all coaches know they are walking on shaky ground. The average shelf-life of a HC in DC since Danny took over is roughly 2 years --- with the LONGEST lasting 3 YEARS!!!!!!

Any coach with a brain wouldn't come approx. 30 miles from FedEx. The track record post-redskins success hasn't exactly been stellar......

Right now our DEF looks OK, but we haven't exactly played barn-burner offensive teams..... so we'll see as we move on thru the season. But all in all, I think Wade passed on US, not the other way around....
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

You're probably right on Wade passing on the Skins instead of vice versa. But Joe Gibbs was here 4 seasons under Danny. Hard to believe he's the longest tenured coach since Norvall.

You are correct. Also, Shanahan was technically here 4 years, so I was wrong on multiple accounts.

Regardless, we've had 8 coaches in the 17 years Danny boy has owned the team. That is pretty horrendous.

All the more reason to let Gruden and McCloughan pick their own quarterback(s) and maintain some consistency with the coaching staff and schemes. The other way hasn't worked.

...and to appreciate the numbers, recall that Joe Gibbs coached for four seasons, and Gibbs is probably the only coach that Snyder would leave alone. So it's 7 coaches in 13 years...1 coach every 1.857 years. Not 1 coach ever 2 years.

I'm too lazy to count the Yankee managers under George Steinbrenner, and the more accurate number would eliminate the long run that Joe Torre had, but Danny and George might have the same "fire-a-coach" rate.
